Group Summary:

Linda turned the tables on a number on her opponents in this round to finish with a full house of wins and a place on the top of the podium, however this was no walk in the park. Julie and Liz tested Linda's title winning credentials to the full in a couple of exhausting head to heads, with Linda describing her match with Julie as "one of the hardest fought I've ever played". Credit to Julie too for bagging her bonus points and three victories to pip Liz to second.

  • "This almost felt like 2 different matches. I won the first set easily but then Wendy found her rhythm and the second set was a hard fought battle with her ahead the whole time until the last couple of games. Great fun!"  -- Liz

Player Comments:

  • "Played on a lovely sunny Friday afternoon at Eaton Park and completed on Monday evening as we ran out of time. Very tough match with many games going to deuce. Linda had a bit of luck with the net on a couple of crucial points in the third set. Linda didn't get to play Liz on her A game, her mind was focused elsewhere as she was going to see Take That after the match :-)."  -- Linda

Reveal CommentLinda May bt Mary Gillings (Jun 10) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Played on a lovely but hot sunny afternoon at Eaton. The sun was an issue down one end so the serve was quite challenging. Nobody can outrun the the athlete that is Mary so no point in trying, I just tried to keep the rallies going in the hope that she'd exhaust herself. There was some really brilliant defending sots from Mary but Andy needs to try harder as a ball boy and scorer - don't give up your day job :-)."  -- Linda
Reveal CommentLinda May bt Victoria Chubb (Jun 4) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Thoroughly enjoyable game with Victoria as always. There were some long rallies with many games going to deuce. Conditions were testing though with a swirling wind on court and bright sunlight at one end making it very difficult to see the ball on serve. Victoria especially was getting very frustrated with the wind during the second set, at one point it looked like I was playing Vick 'Kyrgios' though she stopped short of throwing her racquet as it's brand new."  -- Linda
Reveal CommentJulie Cooper bt Wendy Thomson (Jun 4) 4-6, 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great 3 set match on a sunny sunday; some nice long rallies and cross court shots from Wendy. We even got applause from the players on the next court having a friendly game, for one of our rallies!"  -- Julie

Player Comments:

  • "This was one of the hardest fought matches I've ever played. Most games going to deuce and many long rallies. It could have gone either way right up to the end. After an exhausting 2 hours and 45 minutes Linda finally managed to nudge ahead in the last set. Very enjoyable match but boy am I aching now."  -- Linda
Reveal CommentLiz Somerville bt Julie Cooper (May 30) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I have no idea how I managed to win this marathon of a match. Julie was much more consistent than I was - I just guess I was marginally less tired than she was by the last set! A fabulous game"  -- Liz
Reveal CommentVictoria Chubb bt Liz Somerville (May 29) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Always a pleasure to play Liz. We attempted this game on Saturday but the wild wind was swirling so violently we couldn't keep the ball in the park! Instead we played indoors on Monday and had an enjoyable 2 sets of good tennis. Liz has a good serve while Victoria enjoyed the power her new racket gave her."  -- Victoria

Reveal CommentLinda May bt Wendy Thomson (May 21) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Very enjoyable match played on a lovely sunny afternoon at Eaton Park. The first set was very close with many games going to deuce and some long rallies. Linda was trailing for most of the set but managed to close it. I think we'd both exhausted ourselves in the very long first set as the second set was over in a flash."  -- Linda

Group Summary:

This group was hit by Helen's unfortunate withdrawal, hope you're ok, nevertheless it was great to see all available matches played. Liliya produced an excellent performance to emerge victorious from all three of her matches and take the gold. Bryony came closest to upsetting Liliya's charge in their closely fought head to head and deservedly takes the silver with a couple of victories under her belt.
