Revision information
Provide an explanation of the changes you are making. This will help other authors understand your motivations.

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

If there is anything else you need help with get in contact with Nigel, Sally and the team who will be happy to help!

"Absolutely loved my last round, fantastic format and met some really marvellous people. All matches had positive comments from our group and we played on some terrific courts here in Nottingham. Only problem for me, is that I feel I'm more suited to playing doubles. Full credit to your time and effort in making this work and I'm absolutely sure it will get stronger and bigger. I wish you every success for the future."
Phaldie Fredericks
"Just wanted to say a big thank you for organising the league and encouraging folk to play. I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience and met some new people to play social tennis with,"
Jane Peacock

Player Comments:

  • "6-2,6-2 This match was a lot closer than the score told. We had some great rally's and Matt playing some nice decent net play, with even a decent Boris Becker dive coming into play. Again played in a great spirit with somebody else I now class as a new friend. Good luck Matt in your next group match's."  -- Simon
Reveal CommentStephen Dickens bt Alex Salmeron (May 21) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A great match played in good spirits, a day later than planned thanks the great British weather. Alex shot out of the blocks taking the first set and racing to a 3-0 lead in the second before (helped I have to say by a few lucky net cords which definitely all seemed to go my way today) I clawed my way back. 70 / 80 % of games went to deuce through all three sets. Some great rallies, over two hours on court and played by two not so young novices in exactly the right spirit. See you again soon hopefully Alex! "  -- Stephen
Reveal CommentAlex Salmeron bt Simon Mason (May 14) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "There was a huge, sun drenched crowd, and some pigeons, waiting in anticipation to see these two dads slogging it out, both competing in their first ever competitive singles match, and they weren't disappointed. The games were very close with many going to deuce. Simon's deft drop shots and back spin shots kept me on my toes, but alas, lady luck smiled on me today. Both players agreed to play again sometime as friends, and that is just what it's all about at the end of the day. Cheers Simon, all the best with your remaining matches. :-)"  -- Alex

Reveal CommentLucy Mwangi bt Jamie Bannocks (May 9) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "The final score doesn't reflect the quality of play by Jamie. A great fun match. Well played Jamie and good luck with the remaining matches."  -- Lucy
Reveal CommentLucy Mwangi bt Emma Grishin (May 7) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A nice match with a very lovely lady. We had some fun even though we struggled with nerves at the beginning of the match. Wish you all the best Emma with the remaining matches. Lucy."  -- Lucy
Reveal CommentEmma Grishin bt Katie McLean (May 5) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "For two complete novices playing their first ever competitive match in this league, the blustery conditions certainly proved an extra challenge this evening! The wind provided most of the top spin that we have not quite mastered in our coaching sessions yet but we persevered to produce some really good rallies. The final score does not reflect the quality of play by Katie, which included 2 Aces, no less! A great fun match, made harder by the fact that we are coaching buddies but our coach would have been proud of the competitive but supportive nature in which the game was played. Thanks for a great introductory match, Katie!"  -- Emma
