  • "50 mins in and tennis was the worst game in the world I’d lost the first set 6-2 and was 4-0 down in the second and had lost 9 games on the trot…….but this is tennis and things can soon change. Unbelievably hot weather wasn’t helping but I managed to change tactics and get some attack going and won the second 6-4. Took a 4-1 lead in the second but Joe came back strong to take it to a tie break and I was fortunate to hold on for the win taking the tiebreak 7-4 and tennis is the best game in the world again. A truer reflection is 2 players struggling for consistency but at different times in the match finding a bit and playing some great tennis. Very smart and tactical play, had me on the ropes for quite some time, before I managed to get to the finish line on the 11th hour. Long rallies and long games and Len hitting two unreal crosscourt forehand winners on the run and a pro-style, down-the-line backhand passing shot, which was the shot of the day. • "This match was worthy of centre court. Matt and I played so many deuce games with stunning winning shots coming from both sides. When we got to the 3rd set, much of our play was clever thinking , psychology was playing a big part and could not be underestimated especially with our fitness. When we changed ends, I would jog over to my end to show I'm still full of energy, but the reality was I was on a very reserved tank. This league has been excellent, we are all giving each other great games and any one of us could win this league. Thanks Matt for a great match and developing my fitness. ?"  -- Steven

Player Comments:

  • "Clare opened new balls for the game and I tried to hit the ball off the fence (1st hit) before warming up and it went over the fence and I lost it immediately. It could only get better from there. Alarming number of double faults but was solid otherwise. 2nd set we both played better. Clare you have deceptive power and some great shots and I wish you the best with your remaining matches. :-)"  -- Jonathan

  • "Mark took the first set 6-3 after lots of deuces and long games. He then edged ahead with a break of serve again at 4-3 in the second set. He held his serve and for a moment it was looking like Mark had the match wrapped up. I managed a comeback to get to a tie break and won 7-5. It was very close with some great rallies. After 2 hours play, we moved to court 2 for the last set. I took an early lead but Mark was very determined to battle every point. Some excellent passing shots from Mark and some really strong service games to love got him back in the set. but I just edged it to win 6-4. Thanks for a really close and enjoyable match that could have gone either way"  -- Chris

Player Comments:

  • "Match played in hot and humid weather with almost no wind. We've heard some thunders far away but not even one drop came from skies. After 5-3 in 1st set I thought it is already done - that was a mistake. Martin is full of surprises and came back winning a tiebreak. After frustrating 1st set, nothing was working for me even more. Martin added more control to his game and I have to fight really hard to get those points out of him. Thank you for a challenging match Martin and hopefully you will do more surprises in your upcoming matches :-)."  -- Tomasz

On day one we played for a gruelling 2 hours in the blistering heat, but having won a set each, we decided to delay the final set for another day. We planned to resume the match today but an hour before the game, the heavens decided to open. 20 minutes sat in the car and thankfully the rain passed.
