Player Comments:

  • "Thoroughly enjoyable, very competitive game of tennis with James on a nice sunny day. The first set was extremely tight with a lot of long rallies and hard fought points. Most of the games went to deuce and I was very lucky to scrape the set. James served the second game of the second set and it went to deuce about 12 times, before I got the break… the rest of the set included lots of very tight games and plenty of good rallies. The score line really didn’t reflect the tennis that was played - it felt more like 6-6! James was a great opponent. Friendly, fair and sporting and we had a good chat after. I’d be very happy to play him again. Thanks"  -- Robert

Player Comments:

  • "Think me and Joe both thought he had the match in the bag on a few occassions today. Was a set and a break up and 3-1 up in the decider and if he'd won I would hardly have been able to say he didn't deserve it. Made a few more balls from the middle of the second set onwards as the rally length picked up. Snuck over the line in the end. Always good fun playing Joe as we have fairly similar styles and makes for tactical rallies, looking forward to our next hit and all the best for your remaining matches. "  -- Aidan

Player Comments:

  • "Run ragged by Aidan as usual! Great hit, thought it was all going to be one way traffic after the first set and had to dig deep early in the second to disrupt momentum and get myself back in the match. Luckily I was able to change a few things up and eventually found a way through Aidan's resolute defence. Enjoyed that, look forward to crossing paths again."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "Really hard fought match against Costa. I have had a few matches against Costas and they have all been competitive and mentally tough affairs. Lots of winners off both wings from Costas and variety making me fight for every point. Costas imposed himself in the first set winning 6-4 after converting a break. I had to change strategy in the second and play more patiently waiting for chances. In the third set Costas was able to recover from a 4-1 deficit by throwing the kitchen sink at me, I am grateful I was able to stay with him in the last few games. A lot of good quality hitting in a match that but for a few points could have gone either way. Thanks for the hit Costas and i look forward to our next encounter - Len"  -- Leonard

Player Comments:

  • "Great hit with Ian tonight. The first set was full of intensity with both players holding serve well and not a single break of serve in the first set. The tie breaker was also very close with both players having set points and it could have gone either way. Again the second set was very close and I just managed to pull through in the end. Great competitive tennis match and I think it would have been a different result tonight if Ian took the tie breaker in the first. Good luck for the rest of your matches Ian!"  -- Costas
Reveal CommentCostas Poutziouris bt Gilbert Alla-Mensah (Apr 16) 6-0, 2-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great match today in perfect weather conditions. It was one of those matches where either player could have won and I was lucky enough in the final set to take it. First set was quite one sided with a lot of errors from Gilbert but then he came back in the second set and completely dominated the baseline rally’s hitting some really powerful winners. His form continued in the final set where we had a few really long deuce games. In one game I just about managed to hold serve after a brutal 10+ minute game. I was really struggling at the end of the match as Gilbert hit some really good form and was hitting a lot of winners but just managed to have the win at the end. Great competitive match which is what these leagues are all about. "  -- Costas

Player Comments:

  • "Really well fought match. When Tom's game is on fire it is hard to compete, the first set was such a steamroller at 6-0!. Fortunately I was able to extend the games in the second set and withstand the barrage of shots from Tom to get some rhythm and recover some momentum. The games in sets 2 and 3 were fairly close and fiercely contested. Today I managed to come through but it's always great to play Tom. His aggressive and proactive way of playing really pushes me to play my highest level. I look forward to our next encounter and wish him the best in his remaining fixtures -Len"  -- Leonard

I had a disastrous start and Darren was playing great tennis, so 2nd set, I needed to come up with some tactical adjustments in order to give Darren a game ( no tips for you guys- haha ). Thankfully, I was able to turn things around and sustain the advantage to just about get over the line. Thanks for another great battle Darren. We’re 2-2 now, so I look forward to the next episode! • "A lovely re-painted surface in the scorching 20c sunshine at Keyworth with a formidable rematch. After last round’s 3 set, 36 game slot we were set for the same, but the sun had different plans. First set shaped up equally all the way to a 7:5, no suprises but as the heat drained us more and more we both lagged more. A shorter second set that had us both exhausted. Phil played hard and smart until the end. "  -- Matthew

  • "Very good weather compared to the previous days, sun and some wind. The match much closer than the score suggest. Gared has a good court feel and quick response. If not double service errors, it could be the other way around. Thank you for the match Gared and I wish you all the best in upcoming ones."  -- Tomasz
