This was a well contested group with just 2 points and one match win separating group champ Kyriakos from runner up Lachezar. Fittingly their head to head was a marathon 3 setter that took "2 evenings and over 3 hours of play" to finish! Lance also put up a great fight in the first set taking it to a tiebreak before the champ pulled clear in the second, and there was a great 3 set win for Charles against Nick too.

Reveal CommentNick Edwards bt Lance Entwistle (Oct 25) 2-6, 7-5, 7-5

Reveal CommentLance Entwistle bt Charles Swindon (Oct 24) 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "First sent went Lance’s way but Charles put up stiff resistance on Set 2 breaking Lances serve on the opening. The rest of the second and third sets were very competitive with each player conceding then regaining the lead. The tie break could have gone either way! Very entertaining! "  -- Lance
Reveal CommentArun Krishnamoorthy v Kyriakos Zavoleas (Oct 21) 5-4, 4-5 TBC

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the match so far Kyriakos. Has been very close with both sets going to a tie break ending 9-7. Hopefully can finish the match before the round ends"  -- Arun

Reveal CommentKyriakos Zavoleas bt Lachezar Stoitsov (Oct 18) 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Lights went off on second set: 2-2 games, Kyriakos serving at 15-0. "  -- Kyriakos
  • "It took 2 evenings and over 3 hours of play to finish this match. The third set swang from side to side up to the end: with Kyriakos leading 5-4, it looked that Lachezar was ready to equalise; yet, a couple of errors led to an "early" :-) conclusion. As tension dominated the match, in crucial points we had to both play very conservatively, getting into long rallies until one of us made a mistake. @Lachezar, on our next match, let's plan for 4 hours!" -- Kyriakos

Reveal CommentKyriakos Zavoleas bt Charles Swindon (Oct 10) 6-2, 7-6 (9-7)

Player Comments:

  • "All the thrill came in the second set. I (Kyriakos) lead 4-2 starting to think the match will be soon over. But little did I know. Charles won the next three games to lead 5-4, before I got back to lead again at 6-5, reaching a match point on Charles' serve. But Charles resisted with hitting strong serves, his ace bringing us to tie-break. More arm-wrestling was needed to conclude the set (and match) at 9-7. Looking back at previous rounds, this was the fourth league match I have played with Charles; we are now even at 2-2; maybe the next one will show who prevails. Thanks Charles!"  -- Kyriakos
Reveal CommentGeorge Ebunam bt Georgios Rigas (Sep 29) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "I really enjoyed this match. Georgios’ speed and ability to chase down the ball left me wrong footed a fair few times, which is why the first set was quite close! I was able to find better consistency with my serve and ground strokes in the second set, which helped me get over the line. Genuinely surprised that this was Georgios’ third match ever - no doubt there’ll be exponential improvement once he gets more match play under his belt."  -- George
Reveal CommentKate Comer bt Lachezar Stoitsov (Sep 29) 6-2, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "lovely match with long rallies but it was very wet though not actually raining. "  -- Kate
Reveal CommentLachezar Stoitsov bt George Ebunam (Sep 28) 6-1, 5-7, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "What a Monday tennis match. Leading second set 4-0 and servin for five nil. George broke back few times win second set 7-5. Third set decider Lachezar was leading again 4-0 serving for five nil lead and again great athleticism of George broke back to 4-4. Lachezar was bit lucky and close decider 6-4. After the match we do 30 min practice with some nice freely shots. Thanks for the match George"  -- Lachezar
Reveal CommentKyriakos Zavoleas bt Georgios Rigas (Sep 28) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Although the score doesn't show it, we had good fun playing this match. Georgios doesn't yet have the experience of match playing, but definitely has the moves, the shots, and the stamina needed in this sport. As the potential is all there, I have no doubt that in our future matches the score will be much tighter. Thanks Georgios. "  -- Kyriakos
Reveal CommentKyriakos Zavoleas bt Nick Edwards (Sep 27) 6-4, 7-5

Reveal CommentKyriakos Zavoleas bt Lance Entwistle (Sep 19) 7-6 (7-5), 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "We got everything in the first set. Kyriakos led 4-2 then 5-4, before Lance advanced to 5-6. Half of the tie-break was played in dim light, until the floodlights came on at last. And even in the tie-break we had a few swings before the final 7-5. While stress and nervousness dominated the first set, Kyriakos was able to loosen up in the second set, to complete the match in his favour. Thanks for the match, Lance. "  -- Kyriakos
Reveal CommentLachezar Stoitsov bt Nick Edwards (Sep 18) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Was a nice Friday match with some good rallies Thanks Nick "  -- Lachezar
Reveal CommentLance Entwistle bt Georgios Rigas (Sep 16) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable game. Lance served for the match at 5-2 in the second but Georgios held off a match point and then two further match points in the ninth game. Lance was lucky to clinch the match when a forehand service return from Georgios drifted wide in the tenth. Lance was beginning to fade under the heat and the outcome could have been very different if the match had gone to a third set! "  -- Lance
Reveal CommentKyriakos Zavoleas bt George Ebunam (Sep 14) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "We had a very good match under great weather, with some games going into 10 minutes long. Admittedly, George is a great athlete, and demonstrated a few shots which are impossible to defend; but his game lacks consistency which will only overcome with practice. It will be interesting to have a rematch in a future round. - Thanks for the game, George. "  -- Kyriakos
