  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round

Nigel managed to scored some great volleys through out the match. Luckily, I was able to hold on to an early lead in the final set. Hope to see you again on court soon and many thanks for organizing the leagues. "  -- Alex

Player Comments:

  • "It was a damp and slightly foggy Saturday morning. We were worried a bit that it would be slippery, but the match went very smoothly, without any injuries, but with an occasional power slide after a sprint towards the ball. First set went head to head all the way. The second set I got a bit of a break, but Steve, with his good control of the ball and great net game, kept me on my best behaviour all the way till the end. I really hope I get a chance to play Steve at some point in the future. Best of luck to him in the rest of his matches."  -- Laurynas

Player Comments:

  • "First set went head to head and was quite challenging both phisically and mentally. Although I managed to get a head start at the beginning of the second set, it was very difficult to adopt to Charlottes changing tactics and she almost made a comeback. Was a very enjoyable match, the venue is great, although quite chilly even though we played inside. Best of luck to Charlotte in her future games. "  -- Laurynas

  • Fabulous morning weatherwise, but I think all of us had a slight dose of the 'morning after Saturday night' syndrome, though as the game progressed we did get into some decent rallies. As always, muscular hitting from Danielle and some tricky serving from Anthony threatened to make things difficult, but we managed to stay calm enough to the end. Great workout. Alan - Alan

Reveal CommentSally Morshead & Michael Solomon Williams bt Nicola Venning & Nicola Gibson (Sep 24) 1-6, 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • Quite an extraordinary match. The Nicolas raced into the lead in the first set, combining searing serves with ruthless combination plays and their Nicolanian telepathy. The new partnership of Sally and Michael were simply unable to keep up, as they struggled to settle into any sort of rhythm, and gave themselves no helping hands with a string of unforced errors. Refusing to give way to sentimentality on Michael's birthday, the Nicolas were comprehensively spoiling the party and took the first set 6-1. There seemed to be no way back... So nobody could have predicted what happened in the second set. Perhaps it was Sally getting into her serving stride, Michael remembering how to hit the ball inside the court or the Nicolas being big softies when they say him about to cry, but somehow the scores were exactly reversed. Sally and Michael won the set 6-1. By the third set the wind was in the sails of the new partnership, and nothing could stop them as they stormed to 6-0 in the final set, not quite without breaking a sweat. They were certainly made to run a lot, and perhaps the point of the match was a near collision between Sally ('I've got it, I've got it, I've got it!!) and Michael, both charging into the middle of the court, Sally somehow hitting the ball and not her partner, Michael recovering, running about a lot more and getting a few back in a long rally which they ended up losing, but not without having a lot of fun on the way. - Michael

Group Summary:

Sarah and Annabel top group three - congratulations - but did not do so without a battle. Errol and Frances put up a great fight in a three setter and Pauline and Stephen beat the champs! But though Pauline and Stephen won all their matches, this was Sarah and Annabel's round. With their bonus points and a point for set won in the match they lost, they finished in pole position. Lots of good tennis throughout this group with a high percentage of matches played.
