Vertical Tabs

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of between 5 to 9 people of a similar standard
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • Groups are put together by standard and there can be any combination of men and women in a group (we do not guarantee a balance of men and women and you could be the only man in a group of women or vice versa!)
  • Contact details are emailed and posted to each player's account page
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everyone over the age of 18
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group. Contact details are also posted to your Account Page
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • A point is awarded for each set won
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls)
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a voucher for £20 to be spent in the Local Tennis League online shop. A winner's certificate is also posted to the winner's Account Page as a PDF file.
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Match Results:

Reveal CommentAlvaro Cordero bt Bilal Basir (Oct 9) 3-6, 7-5, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great battle with Bilal, that extended to 2 days. Bilal is a great player and I had to dig very deep to stay in the match. On the first day we played, he was serving very strong. He broke me once in the first set and that was it. In the second set we went all the way to 5-5 without a break. I managed to get my first break of serve then to win the second set 7-5. It was already dark, so we decided to stop and continue a few days later. Third set was the same story. We went all the way to 4-4 without a break. Finally managed to break Bilal and win the battle."  -- Alvaro
Reveal CommentBilal Basir bt Maximilian Rudolf (Oct 6) 7-6 (7-5), 3-1 Maximilian Rudolf Retired

Player Comments:

  • "Both struggled in the windy conditions. Max’s forehand stood firm. Had to come back from behind to win the first. Very tough to rally in the tricky conditions."  -- Bilal
Reveal CommentMaximilian Rudolf bt Rodrigo Dias (Oct 5) 4-6, 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Interesting battle on saturday morning. First set rodrigo went up 2:5 when i started finally to push back a bit. But he managed to push it over the line. Second set i gained confidence and rodrigo fought back woth great running. In the 3rd we were pushed of the court (PLEASE MAKE BOOKINGS 2 HRS AGAIN) and finished in a nerve racking manner the match at Moormead. Rodrigo is a great addition to the league. Thx."  -- Maximilian
Reveal CommentMihai Nagit bt Rodrigo Dias (Oct 5) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Such a great match against Rodrigo, the score lying about the quality of the battle. Rodrigo is a fine tennis player with beautiful technique and definitely a great addition to our Richmond league. Hope to play you soon and good luck with your next ones!!"  -- Mihai
Reveal CommentMihai Nagit bt Rags Martel (Oct 4) 6-0, 4-6, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Very interesting match, with Rags losing only due to the fact that his signature serve and volley style was let down by the service game today. Several double faults in key points like deuces tipped the balance in my favour and only had to hold my service which was not easy to secure the win. Good luck with the next ones champ!"  -- Mihai
Reveal CommentMihai Nagit bt Christopher Belcourt (Oct 2) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "As always Chris is a very difficult opponent, fighting very smartly and using his aggressive and beautiful top spin. The match was very tight and the score doesn’t reflect entirely how close it was. Chis was up 2-0 in both sets and played very well. The entire match felt like a chess game, testing both players mental strength. Good luck with the next ones Chris!!"  -- Mihai
Reveal CommentDavid Kane bt Alvaro Cordero (Oct 2) 2-6, 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Alvaro definitely tested my tight hamstrings with his brutal sliced angles and drop shots. Constant changing of weather conditions made for some difficulty at the net leading to a few questionable shots by myself. Tough match and even though it’s difficult to play it’s a great to see someone that has more than just a ‘Plan A’! Thanks for the game Alvaro. "  -- David
Reveal CommentMihai Nagit bt Maximilian Rudolf (Sep 28) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great match against Max as always!! Max played well and went up 2-1 in the first and 4-1,40-15 in the second breaking my service after long 5/6 deuces games and only some gifts made on his serve allowed me to get back in the sets. Keep the faith and good luck with the next ones!!"  -- Mihai
Bilal Basir bt Rags Martel (Sep 28) 6-4, 7-5
Reveal CommentMihai Nagit bt Bilal Basir (Sep 20) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great battle with Bilal in the first match of the league on a warm sunny Friday evening. Match was extremely tight and difficult due to the fighting spirit of Bilal who kept coming back in both sets after a slower or cautious start. Once relaxed he played amazing shots making me run like a mad dog from corner to corner and pushed me into defence. Very nice meeting you Bilal, you are a great addition to the league and good luck with your next matches."  -- Mihai

Player Comments:

  • "Tough conditions in the wind and rain on Sunday morning at York House - very evenly matched and could have gone either way in the first set. Probably should have gone to a third set decider in which case we would have had to play another time as the court was getting wetter by the minute, but I was lucky to scrape home in the second set. Great to play you again Nicolo and thanks for getting the match done in such horrible weather - let's play again soon!"  -- Rod

Reveal CommentJames Meurer bt Gianfranco Celani (Oct 6) 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Mixed conditions after the night's heavy rain and then a low sun for the second two sets. Gianfranco reined me in after an early lead and, with some genuinely world-class slices and drop-shots he took the first set. I was able to re-group in the second however, managing to stay in front for the rest of the match. Really good fun and challenging tennis. Welcome to the Richmond league Gianfranco! "  -- James

Unfortunately we weren’t able to finish as I had to get back to work, but definitely looking forward to the final set!"  -- Ben
