Tennis In The Rainy City

Belina Sithole

LTL has been a great way to play competitively with people who are on my level and still have fun. I would definitely recommend joining if you’re thinking about it.

What got you into tennis?

I had my first tennis lesson during PE when I was in primary school and really enjoyed the sport. As we only had access to the tennis courts during PE lessons I didn’t get to play as much as I would have liked. Fast forward to secondary school, I started getting involved in athletics and more team sports as I wasn’t on the same level as the other tennis players at my school.

I then decided to get back into tennis when I moved to work in a new city which is where I met a few of my current friends. I started taking group coached lessons and was playing 3 times a week; this really helped to bring my game up to a level where I could hold a good rally. I haven’t stopped playing since then and enjoy every moment I’m on the court.

How did you find out about LTL?

A few years later, I found myself moving again with work to Manchester, the rainy city, and I was struggling to find a tennis club close to where I lived. I signed up to a park tennis club but unfortunately, due to the weather, all the sessions were cancelled, and didn’t play tennis for nearly a year and this wasn’t easy!

Fortunately, the park tennis club was still sending emails to their subscribers and I received an email informing me of the adult tennis coaching sessions and the upcoming Local Tennis League Round. I can’t tell you how excited I was to receive this email, I signed up to both sessions immediately.

What do you love about it?

I am still very new to the League and have thoroughly enjoyed the matches I have played so far. To be honest I was worried at first because I had not played competitively in the past – most of my tennis experience was just friendly rallies and social matches. LTL has been a great way to play competitively with people who are on my level and still have fun. I would definitely recommend joining if you’re thinking about it.
