Updates on the unlocked rounds

We continue to gradually unlock our leagues across the country and as mentioned before, this is a phased process with round dates appearing on league pages as soon as we know when they can start.

In the meantime, we wanted to quickly post an update which you can refer to with any quick FAQs. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, then please visit our main coronavirus update page!

  • How will I know when my league will restart? Make sure you are registered with the league you are looking to join, we will email all registered players as soon as we know your league is ready. This can be done either by clicking ‘Edit your details’ in your account and under ‘Email Subscriptions’ select your league or as a new user, registering with us and completing the online questionnaire.

  • When will the doubles leagues open again? At this time our main focus is to get as many singles leagues open as possible, so we will not be opening doubles leagues in the near future. Of course as things change with government guidelines this may be brought in earlier so we will keep you all posted.

  • Court time is scarce! How do I fit all the matches in? In one way it’s been fantastic to see such high demand for courts now lockdown is lifted! However, we know it does add an extra pressure so we are allowing the option of short format matches for all new rounds being unlocked to ease court time. We have also unlocked rounds where there are multiple venues to play at so you may have to play somewhere a bit different than usual. Try to book a few sessions at once if possible, so you’re at least covered for a few matches.

    • What is short format? The rules are:
      • A short set is played to four games instead of six.
      • A set is therefore won at 4-0, 4-1, 4-2, etc.
      • At 4-3 the player with the four game advantage needs to win one more game to win the set (ie 5-3).
      • At 4-4, the next game is sudden death - the set is won 5-4.
      • If the match goes to one set all, a match tie-break (first to 10 instead of 7) is played. The player who received serve at the end of the previous set serves first in the tie-break.
      • You get one point for every set you win (the tie break counts as a set as far as points are concerned)
      • So the player winning the match on a tie-break gets a total of 2 points (1 for each set; the loser gets 1 point (1 for the set)
      • Note - In a few existing short format leagues we also award a point for completing a match but this will not additionally apply in these special coronavirus affected rounds.
      • Need to reference this quickly during a match? Either visit our site or click on the link in our Instagram profile bio where you’ll find a quick link on short format and other rules! Follow us via @localtennisleagues

  • I have a coupon from my cancelled round, how do I claim it? To those who were awarded coupons, you will find it in your account under the coupon tabs. Just log into your account to locate it and use redeem the coupon on checkout. They expire at the end of year but try to use them as soon as you can.
