Collapse AllGDT Slough Singles - Round 15 | Thursday 16 May 2019 to Wednesday 10 July 2019 (Midpoint: Wednesday 12 June 2019)

A little bit low on the percentage of matches played this time, but some excellent tennis none the less. We'd love to get a summer boost to the numbers, so if you can spread the word we would be grateful! Don't forget to tell the new recruits that we offer free tennis balls if they complete three matches by the mid point of the round!

Group Summary:

Bernardo secured three excellent wins but could he press on to make it two group wins in a row? Unfortunately for him, Phil was just a jump ahead and though he lost to Bernardo notched up five wins of his own. Neither player earned bonus points so it was the points for sets won that counted and Phil was uncatchable on ten. Well done Phil - well Bernardo catch you next time! Meanwhile, Sandeep claims bronze with three wins of his own.

Player Comments:

  • "A close match, with Sukh's forehand working well and hitting some great winners. I struggled to get into a rhythm as Sukh dominated the forehand rallies, but a few timely serves proved to be enough to help me get through. Thanks for the game Sukh!"  -- Sandeep
Reveal CommentPhil Nash bt Rupert Banks (Jun 26) 7-5, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was an overcast day at Uxbridge and we played on their finely conditioned grass courts. In the knock up Phil almost took a catch as a cricket ball sailed high over the safety netting onto court two !! More accustomed to the surface Rupert took early advantage with an immediate break of serve. The set levelled to 2 all but then Phil exerted a bit more pressure and started to clear ahead at 5-2. The set was by no means over and Rupert battled hard to narrowly lose 7-5. The second set started as the first getting to 2 all with many sapping 10/12 shot rallies but then Phil managed 4 games on the trot and the match was won. Cheers Rupert, it's always great to play you. Phil"  -- Phil
Reveal CommentSandeep Minhas bt Rupert Banks (Jun 24) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the game Rupert. Tough to play on the least prepared grass court... With the uneven bounce. Look forward to the next one."  -- Sandeep
Phil Nash bt Nik Rudge (Jun 23) 6-2, 7-6 (7-4)
Reveal CommentPhil Nash bt Sandeep Minhas (Jun 16) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "In the first set Sandeep served, then broke me immediately for 2 love up; he had a point for 3-0 but luckily I managed to keep that one. The set evenly climbed to 4-4 when I finally managed a break to take 6-4. The second set promised a close one at 1-1 but then a lack of concentration from Sandeep allowed a rare runaway set for me when our previous sets from all our previous matches had been very close. Conditions were damp all the way through and we set an early start at 9am to ensure fathers day was not impacted. Cheers Sandeep "  -- Phil

  • "It was really nice to meet Sukh for our first match at Salthill. No weather interruptions, not even the noise, excitement and laughter from Rog and Raj on the adjacent court could put us off ! Cheers Sukh."  -- Phil

Player Comments:

  • "Rog's late night cost him a few games this morning. In previous leagues Rog has won against players who were victorious over me so that highlights the beautiful game of tennis and its contrasting styles. Enjoyable chats at end changed as always. Cheers Rog."  -- Phil

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentSandeep Minhas bt Nik Rudge (May 19) 6-7, 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A tough match, with a close first set which Nik took comprehensively with a 7-0 tie break. I tried to cut out the unforced errors in the 2nd and 3rd sets and although my tennis wasn't great it was just enough to get over the line in warm indoor conditions. Thanks for the match Nik, well played."  -- Sandeep
