Second set I decided to go for his forehand as his backhand was hitting the lines. With many rallies lasting over 10 shots I managed to crawl over the line. Well played and looking forward to our next battle."  -- Navtej

Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Richard Randle (Aug 18) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Not sure if I should be happy or sad that the real Richard failed to show up in Malvern (he is probably stuck in sunny Spain). The match was surprisingly one-sided, and even though I played quite well, I cannot claim much glory on the back of this win. Glad to report that the real Richard turned up for the usual rounds of beer, where the score was more balanced"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt William Hughes (Aug 16) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Good match in the evening sunshine at Malvern Park. Being relatively new to tennis, Will is keen to play more regularly and he has lots of potential for someone who hasn't had much tennis experience. He deserved more than one game today and hit a couple of superb winners when returning serve. With more court time and experience, he can only become a better player. Thanks for a good game."  -- Richard

The second set was a much more even but I was lucky to take this one leading into a championship tie breaker. Another close set with me just about edging it. Player Comments:

  • "Perfect afternoon for tennis at Malvern. In the first set Laurence’s first serves were spot on with very high first serve percentage, didn’t give much opportunity for me to return. Managed to win some crucial points and there by the set. In the second set Laurence’s first serve percent dropped a little bit helped me to run through some games pretty quick. Overall a competitive match played with good spirits. Good luck with the rest of your games Laurence."  -- Vik
Reveal CommentAnish Chauhan bt Sean Alimajstorovic (Sep 3) 3-6, 7-5, [10-6]

Player Comments:

  • "What an epic battle between Sean and I! It started with Sean dominating the match on the most part with quite a few unforced errors on my part but Sean certainly played well. Having needing a toilet break (which in Malvern Park is a 12 min round trip!) this might have been a contributing factor to my lack of concentration! :) The second set was very close throughout with some great rallies with only a handful of points separating us both. The Champ Tie Break saw both of us tired and hot but, possibly on account of Sean carrying a bit of a cough, I was able to take the third set and the match. We both agreed that this was the best match we’ve played and although I edged this one, I look forward playing you again Sean! "  -- Anish
