Reveal CommentJonathan Winspeare bt Dougald Weir (Oct 13) 5-7, 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "An absolute epic mid day battle at Shirley Park today. I took an early lead in the first set only for Doug to make a great come back playing some excellent short balls and punishing me time and time again with some great lobs. The second set we got off to an even start, but I just managed to take the important points in our deuce games to take the set. The third set was a real test of fitness. Every point and game was fought after with grunts and moans. It was another close set. Overall an excellent 3 hours of tennis. Enjoy your beer and look forward to next time."  -- Jonathan
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Carlos Miranda (Oct 10) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Carlos. An enjoyable ompetitive match. Carlos has a great 1st serve and a good forehand. I managed to stay in the rallies and finish off alot of points at the net. Looking forward to our next match"  -- Nav
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Richard Randle (Oct 8) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Another enjoyable match against Richard with numerous long rallies. If Richard's 1st serve percentage was higher today then the match would have been alot closer. Looking forward to our next battle."  -- Nav
Reveal CommentNick King bt Carlos Miranda (Oct 3) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Another good match with Carlos, playing outside in the wind, but not the rain. A very close match, each game, each point being fought over. Carlos's first serve is better and quiet a weapon, giving him first set advantage. Both second and third sets very similar, alternating games until somehow I got a slight lead in both to win the match. At times not pretty, but tense and competitive. See you soon - hopefully indoors!"  -- Nick
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Jonathan Winspeare (Oct 1) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "We managed to fit this match in this evening due to a poor forecast tomorrow when we'd originally scheduled the match. We have played several times in the past and each time we play, Jon shows his tennis ability with shots I can only watch with envy. I was fairly consistent so won the majority of points but Jon is potentially unplayable if he finds the consistency to match his big shots. As ever, very enjoyable. Thanks for the game."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentNick King bt Jonathan Winspeare (Sep 25) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Jon , at last ..... good completive match - his attacking shots vs my defensive style - which just slightly the better this time round. Look frward to another match"  -- Nick
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Dougald Weir (Sep 20) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Doug and I played our first match in six months, which is probably the longest spell we've gone without competing against each other since our first game a few years ago. As always, it was very enjoyable with Doug making me work hard for every point. His serve was strong and his ability to stay in points is impressive. I found a few forehand winners and some decent first serves which allowed the result to appear more comprehensive than it actually was, with several games that could have gone either way. Thanks for the game, Doug, and we'll have to make sure we don't leave it as long until our next match. "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Jonathan Winspeare (Sep 19) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Jonathan and it was a really good match. Jonathan is clearly a good tennis player with great technique. His lacking match fitness due to a recent illness. We had many long rallies and he got to almost all my drop shots and pulled off some remarkable winners. If not for his fitness he could have won many more rallies. Well played Jonathan, looking forward to our next match. "  -- Nav
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Dougald Weir (Sep 15) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Doug and it as a really enjoyable match. First set Doug was adjusting to my spin. Second set he came out fighting with numerous 10 to 8 shot rallies and slice winners. Well played Doug. Looking forward to our next game. "  -- Nav
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Dougald Weir (Sep 13) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "This was the first time I played Doug in a few years. It seems like I timed it well, as this was his first match after his summer holidays, therefore his movement around the court was a bit... hesitant! Nevertheless, Doug surprised me with his greatly improved serve and several splendid drop shops. A very nice afternoon of tennis, sprinkled with a very enjoyable chat - as ever!"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Nick King (Sep 13) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Nick and it was a great match to be involved in. Nick is a good all round tennis player. His consistency and net play meant we had many long rallies. The last set score doesnt reflect the many break points Nick had and lucky for me, failed to convert. Well played Nick, looking forward to our next battle."  -- Nav
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Carlos Miranda (Sep 10) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A very enjoyable Friday evening of tennis at Tudor Grange. We actually played a solid two hours as we managed an additional two sets following the match. The scoreline doesn't reflect Carlos' shots and his impressive first serve. I was lucky enough to find some consistency but it was far from a one sided game. Thanks for the game, Carlos, and I look forward to playing again soon."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Nick King (Sep 6) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "From our previous match I knew to expect a clever and aggressive play from Nick, so I did my best to hit the balls hard while being consistent. This seems to have done the trick, helped by the fact that Nick hit quite a few unforced errors, including double faults, at important points of the match. With the pressure of the match off Nick was very close to snatch the third (friendly) set. Thanks for the match Nick, looking forward to our next encounter - maybe a few doubles matches to mix it up a bit? "  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Jonathan Winspeare (Sep 4) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Good to see Jon returning to the league after almost two years. Unfortunately his game was a bit hesitant and inconsistent - as expected after a long break. He hit a few wonderful cross-court winners, but these were outnumbered by the unforced errors, which helped me win the match easier than expected. All in all a very nice Saturday afternoon on the surprisingly deserted tennis courts from Shirley"  -- Vlad

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Richard Randle (Sep 3) 3-6, 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "At 6-3 4-1 for Richard it looked like we would be heading for the pub earlier than planned. I somehow managed to shake the errors off, to serve a bit better and to force Richard to make more errors himself. The third set was the best, with both of us hitting quite a few beautiful winners. Quite a rollercoaster it was, Richard lead again by 4-2 but I somehow found more energy and wrapped it up. As ever, a very pleasant match followed by a few rounds of similarly pleasant refreshments. Cheers Richard!"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Vlad Giurcaneanu (Sep 2) 6-3, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "I got what I expected. Another close match that could have either way. Vlad is a exceptional tennis player that adopts to all scenarios. The first set was straightforward because Vlad lacked matchplay. Second set was when Vlad stepped up a gear with winners from both sides. The tie break could have gone either way. Well played Vlad. Next time you go on holiday lets play again :)"  -- Nav
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Nick King (Sep 2) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Second time playing Nick and this was even closer than the first game between us. We both made errors at times but overall played a steady match which I was fortunate enough to win. The sun played its part and made it difficult to serve from one end of the court. Overall, an enjoyable game. "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentNick King bt Dougald Weir (Aug 26) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Again, a good competitive game. I got ahead and managed to stay ahead, winning the vital deuce games. Well played Doug, see you again soon"  -- Nick
Carlos Miranda bt Dougald Weir (Aug 25) 6-2, 6-3
Carlos Miranda bt Jonathan Winspeare (Aug 20) 6-2, 6-0
