Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Simon Mathew (Jul 29) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Simon gets better every time I play him. The score line doesn't reflect the games and the passion he showed. His 1st serves percentage was high 70s and alot faster then the last time I played him. Well played Simon. Looking forward to playing again"  -- Nav
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Vlad Giurcaneanu (Jul 16) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "WOW! I wish I could leave my comment to this, to save me from the pain of thinking again about the match, but it would be unfair for Richard's outstanding performance on the night. He totally outplayed me, using all the shots I would have liked to use. He was fast and furious! In the first set he made a single mistake. He lead 5-0 and I consider myself lucky to have scored two games. In the second I managed to hit a few more balls but just when I thought the comeback door is opening Richard slammed it back in my face... As usual we celebrated/commiserated the result with a few pints - I wish I could say this session ended at least with a draw but Richard might have won this one too! Well deserved match and league win - CONGRATULATIONS"  -- Vlad

Reveal CommentUmar Balal bt Vik Ramakrishnan (Jul 14) 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "Another hard fought match , could have gone either way, in the final tie break. Very intense pressure game of chess. Nice meeting Vik, look forward to our next pressure less encounter"  -- Umar
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt David Crowley (Jul 13) 7-6 (7-5), 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Both David and I struggled a bit with the conditions in what seemed to be a perfect evening for tennis. The low sun made the ball invisible while playing on the far half of the court, while a billion mini flies constantly pestered us. David started both sets better and he lead by 5-2 in the first and 3-1 in the second. I somehow managed to claw my way back and to win both. David hit quite a few beautiful shots, including some solid volleys."  -- Vlad
David Crowley bt Vik Ramakrishnan (Jul 12) 6-4, 6-2
Simon Mathew bt David Crowley (Jul 10) 3-6, 6-3, 6-1
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Umar Balal (Jul 10) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Firstly, what a nice guy Umar is and an excellent tennis player. I must admit that I was delighted with how I played in the first set but the second was much closer, with some excellent shots played by Umar. I felt a bit fortunate to win the second set and we followed it up with a friendly third set, which Umar won. A very enjoyable afternoon of tennis; I look forward to our next game!"  -- Richard
  • "It's bad enough losing to a teacher, but a primary school teacher unforgivable. Richard had an answer for all my match winning shots, he nullified my serves and my slices. Time to get back to the drawing board for the next match (might try playing right handed) Enjoyable game, thank you Richard" -- Umar
Reveal CommentNader Feghhi bt Vik Ramakrishnan (Jul 8) 6-1, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "After the first set I thought I’d be home in time for Tea but Vic had other ideas. It was like having dinner with a praying mantis. He lured me into his trap by slowing the game right down and giving me dead balls with no pace, forcing me to go for my shots and making mistakes. I was desperate not to play a third set so somehow managed to pull it off. Very good match played in good spirit. Thanks Vic and well played."  -- Nader
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Simon Mathew (Jul 8) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "After a few balanced games Simon lost his first serve which allowed me to go for my shots. A very enjoyable match played in perfect conditions"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Vik Ramakrishnan (Jul 5) 5-7, 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "In the first set Vik surprised me by playing his best tennis I ever saw him play. He dictated the pace and went for his shots, hitting a lot of clean winners. In the second set he ran out of steam a bit, which allowed me to come back and level the score. Rain and a hole in Vik's trainers made us put the match on hold. We reconvened in Tudor Grange two days later. I feel like a cheat, as Vik never play there before and struggled to accommodate with the conditions and he made a lot of unforced errors. All in all a very enjoyable match, looking forward to our next encounter "  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentNader Feghhi bt David Crowley (Jul 4) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "My first encounter with David in a very hot indoor court at Tudor Grange LC. David has a cracking first serve and he won most of his points off that. Unfortunately his consistency during the rallies let him down a bit today. A very enjoyable game. Looking forward to our next. Thanks David."  -- Nader
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Vik Ramakrishnan (Jul 2) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Vik and I have played tennis against each other once or twice a week since restrictions ended so we know each other's games very well. I was consistent today whilst Vik made a few errors. We had a friendly third set too so a good couple of hours of exercise on a warm Friday evening. Cheers Vik!"  -- Richard
Reveal CommentVik Ramakrishnan bt Simon Mathew (Jul 1) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "First encounter with Simon, a very close game more than the score suggest. Plenty of close games that went to deuce and I was lucky on that day to come on the wining side. Hope to play more such matches. Thanks Simon - Vik "  -- Vik
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Nader Feghhi (Jul 1) 4-0 Nader Feghhi Retired

Player Comments:

  • "Unfortunately Nader picked up an injury in the first game of the match. He tried to shrug it off but after a few more games we decided to be cautious and we stopped the match. Speedy recovery Nader, looking forward to our next match"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Vik Ramakrishnan (Jun 29) 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Vik. Enjoyable match with afew long rallies. Vik is very consistent and so points had to be won. "  -- Nav
Reveal CommentNader Feghhi bt Simon Mathew (Jun 28) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable first encounter with Simon. I initially struggled returning his first serves and angled backhands but gradually managed to read them a bit better. Simon is a good player but was a bit unlucky with some of his shots today. Looking forward to our next encounter. Thanks Simon."  -- Nader
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt David Crowley (Jun 27) 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The second set was much better than the first with more rallies and some good shots from David. I managed to come through in the second but it wasn't easy. An enjoyable game!"  -- Richard
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Nav Aulkh (Jun 27) 7-6 (7-4), 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "As usual, a very competitive hard fought tennis match, with plenty of good shots from both sides. Lucky for me, Nav was not at his best on the day and he clocked an usual number of unforced errors. Two key facts that might have turned the match in my favour, both of them occurring before kick-off: during warm up I swapped rackets to better accommodate Nav's game style and we decided to lift the net a few inches to bring it up to the normal height. Thanks for the match Nav, looking forward to our next encounter"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentNader Feghhi bt Umar Balal (Jun 26) 6-4, 4-6, [11-9]

Player Comments:

  • "A hard fought scrappy battle where we were both hesitant and scared to go for our shots. I played fairly well in the first set but less so in the second with lots of double faults. Umar played much better in the second set and hit a lot of winners. We decided to play a championship tie break in lieu of the third set as our parking time was up and didn’t want to get a ticket. I nearly dreaded this as I very quickly went down 6-1 but someone managed to claw back and win the match. All in all a very competitive but enjoyable game. Thanks Umar."  -- Nader
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Umar Balal (Jun 23) 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Another good afternoon of tennis in Shirley Park. Umar is a very solid player and he gave me a proper scare in the first set, when most of his shots came fast and landed one feet inside the baseline (his forehand down the line is a thing of beauty!). Both of us were pretty shy to win our own serve, so we exchanged breaks through the first set. I managed to secure it by landing a few decisive first serves. Lucky for me, Umar's energy level dropped in the second set, while my game started to improve. The score is not a fair reflection of the player's tennis skills, it rather shows the fitness level on the day. Thanks for the match Umar, looking forward to our next encounter "  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Richard Randle (Jun 20) 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "This is the fourth time I have played Richard is the past few years. He game has improved leaps and bounds. The first set he made 90% of first serves and his return of serve was to my shoelaces. The second set I managed to return his serve better and his first serve percentage dropped while my serving improved. Third set was a epic battle decided by a tie break. Could have gone either way. Looking forward to our next battle in the leamington league."  -- Nav
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Nader Feghhi (Jun 18) 7-5, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "What a match! We decided to play indoors due to the grim weather and I very nearly regretted that decision. Nader and I were both better than the last time we played each other and he was very unfortunate to lose. Nader hit the ball very well today but made a few mistakes and I just about managed to take advantage. I feel very fortunate to have won that game and I'm pleased we can have a rematch next week. Thanks for the game, Nader."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentUmar Balal bt Simon Mathew (Jun 17) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A enjoyable encounter with Simon, a very good player when he goes for his shots, thankfully he didn't go for it too often in our match. After a gruelling first game, which seemed to last 10+minutes, I started playing better, and a few of Simon's drop shots ended in the net. Overall an enjoyable competitive game, which belies the score."  -- Umar
Reveal CommentNav Aulkh bt Umar Balal (Jun 15) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great conditions for a great match. Unfortunately a great match it wasn't. Lots of unforced mistakes by both players. I managed to make afew less and stayed in the rallies alittle longer. Looking forward to a future great match with Umar "  -- Nav

Reveal CommentDougald Weir bt Leigj Dunne (Aug 2) 2-3 Leigj Dunne Retired

Player Comments:

  • "I was very much looking forward to playing Leigh - he is a terrific player and I was relishing the challenge. Unfortunately, in perhaps the 3rd or 4th game of the first set, Leigh had an issue with his calf muscle in one of his legs. Despite valiantly carrying on for a short while, it was clear he shouldn't play any further to prevent any further pain or damage being done. The game finished prematurely - nobody likes this as an outcome. Leigh, I hope you make a swift recovery from injury and I really look forward to playing a full match with you when circumstances allow. All the best. "  -- Dougald
  • "Thanks Doug, appreciate your comments and hopefully a speedy recovery! Just literally took a step backwards and my calf went :( . Think that’s the first time I’ve ever not finished a match, so Apols and well played." -- Leigj

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentRichard Smith bt Dougald Weir (Jul 20) 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "An unbelievable match with Doug that started on Monday and ended on Tuesday. We played so many deuce points, with many long rallies too in extremely hot conditions. Doug has a really consistent game and I had to tighten up some early waywardness in order to live with him. Both of us had chances to get over the line, but think we were enjoying the contest so much that it ultimately went down to the inevitable final set tie break, which I was fortunate enough to edge largely due to my first serves kicking in at a timely moment. Thanks for the game Doug, it's not one I'm likely to forget in a hurry! "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentDougald Weir bt Pretesh Chauhan (Jul 19) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great to get this match played in the bright sunshine (maybe a bit too hot at times!). Doug played a very consistent game and my serve let me down badly but there were some great rallies and some very tight games in the mix. I very much look forward to our next encounter "  -- Pretesh
Reveal CommentRichard Smith bt Danish Mumtaz (Jul 14) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A highly competitive match with Danish, the result of which could have gone either way if key points had a different outcome. Played in glorious sunshine too, thanks for the game Danish! "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentNick King bt Richard Smith (Jul 12) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Good to meet and play a competitive match with Richard. It really is true, some points are more important than others and fortunately more just went my way, hence a score not really reflective of the match. Good to play, hope to play again, regards Nick" -- Nick
  • "A top match against a top player. Nick and I enjoyed a number of really good points, but all too often from my perspective I was on the wrong end of the finish. Nick's volleying skills deserve a special mention. As with every match within the league to date, this was played in great spirit and it's always good to test yourself against better players to find ways to improve.....I've a lot of improvements to make it seems!" -- Richard
Reveal CommentNick King bt Pretesh Chauhan (Jul 11) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Good to play Pretesh this morning, running away with first set but second set more competitive, with long rallies but the deuce games went my way. Keep going, see you again"  -- Nick
