Player Comments:

  • "A good match for my final game in this league against a strong player. Pretesh played well enough to win more games and caused me a few problems, especially on my service games as my serve was very inconsistent today. Thanks for the game!"  -- Richard

Player Comments:

  • "Decent game interrupted by some gusts of wind. A few lucky net calls went my way, otherwise Dougald would have taken a few more games for sure."  -- Eldin

Player Comments:

  • "A really good game with Matt this evening. I had 'home' advantage due to playing lots of matches at Tudor Grange recently. There was very little between us all the way through, with Matt hitting big shots and strong serves. The first set felt like it would go on forever at 4-4, but I just managed to win it. When Matt broke my serve towards the end of the second, I thought we were heading towards a tie break and then potentially a third set, but again I was able to see the set over the line. A very competitive match and I look forward to playing Matt again soon."  -- Richard

Player Comments:

  • "An absolute pleasure to play Doug again. Although we crossed paths around the tennis courts, we did not have a match in the least 18 months... Great to see that Doug's game improved in all areas. His court coverage is better, the first serve has a bite, his sliced backhand is more precise and reliable. All in all, there is more force and... purpose in all his shots. After the match we had an very enjoyable catch-up, which of course had to include the latest news on the local watering holes... Looking forward to our next match, hopefully followed by a proper pint of Guinness - Ale Hub or Shaking Hand?"  -- Vlad

Player Comments:

  • "As ever, it is great to welcome new players to our local league. And as ever, neither of us knew what to expect from the opponent. It seems like both of us chose to abandon any thought of patiently studying the opponent and went for glory from the early stages of the match. The result was great match, even though both of us made a (in)decent number of errors in the process of chasing winners! The win could have gone either way, lucky for me Matt took his foot of the gas at 4-2 up in the second and allowed me back into the match. Thanks for the match Matt, I hope we have showed enough quality to make you join again in the spring!"  -- Vlad

Player Comments:

  • "Whenever Doug and I meet, we usually have to be prepared to feed the car parking meter! Today was no different. A very topsy turvy match in which I was on top in the first set, Doug very much found his consistency and rhythm in the second set followed by us saving our best error-free tennis of the day til the third set. It was all on serve and even stevens level all the way until the very end where I managed to edge it. Thanks for the game Doug, I look forward to next time. "  -- Pretesh
Reveal CommentSilviu Herbei bt Richard Randle (Feb 6) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Not a 3 set's match as usual this evening but still a quality match with some great rallies where I was probably more consistent this time and managed to get ahead in both sets. Thanks for the game Richard and see you soon!"  -- Silviu
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Pretesh Chauhan (Feb 5) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It was great to meet and play Pretesh for the first time. He is a good player with a solid forehand, but unfortunately for him I was inspired by the splendid weather and I managed to put in one of my best performances in the last few months, with just a few unforced errors and plenty of powerful shots from the back of the court. Thanks for the match Pretesh"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Dougald Weir (Feb 5) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "This was the first match between Doug and myself in a few months and also surprisingly our first indoor game against each other. Doug made me work hard for every point and deserved the scoreboard to reflect the several games which went to deuce. We had time for a third set and the play was similar, although Doug got the two games his play in the previous two sets should have earned him. Thanks for the game, Doug. Loads of running and always a pleasure. "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Silviu Herbei (Feb 4) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Although I played pretty well, I believe my win was helped by the fact that Silviu was a bit tired, having played three hours of tennis the day before and having just returned from a three weeks injury break. Looking forward to our next match - hopefully fully fit for both of us!"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentSilviu Herbei bt Eldin Basic (Feb 3) 6-0, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "The game was tight with some good rally specially in second set where Eldin played really well. Thanks for the game!"  -- Silviu
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Vlad Giurcaneanu (Feb 2) 7-5, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Having had the pleasure of playing Vlad in the league and in friendlies for a few years now, it's fair to say that we know each other's game inside out. Tonight wasn't our best match, with unforced errors dominating the points, but we both hit some great winners and ran around relentlessly for two hours. Despite it only being a Thursday night, we even made time for a beer or two after our game had finished. As always, a superb match and I know we'll continue to play many games in the future. Not long until the outdoor season starts again! Thanks for a great game, Vlad."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentEldin Basic bt Pretesh Chauhan (Feb 1) 7-5, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Decent match. Pretesh improved on last year and made same great forehands and even served an ace or two, but needs to work on backhand and 2nd serve."  -- Eldin
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Eldin Basic (Jan 28) 6-1, 2-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Neither Eldin or I were in top form today. We both hit some great shots but we hit a higher number of unforced errors. After the first set I thought I’ll bag an easier win but Eldin switched on and played a perfect set, with great serves and loads of powerful attacking shots. He continued the form into the third set, but at 2-0 up he slowed down a bit which allowed me to get myself together and get back in front. The momentum swing was helped by one extremely lucky return of serve and one awful let cord - both mine… Thanks for the match Eldin, hopefully our next one will be outdoors!"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Eldin Basic (Jan 15) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Eldin and I usually have good, close games. This evening's game was close, but sadly not very good. Neither of us were on top form and it made for a scrappy match. I was fortunate with net cords as I didn't feel that I was hitting the ball well. Eldin deserved more from the match and, in honesty, luck was on my side today. Look forward to our next game."  -- Richard

Player Comments:

  • "Great match today with Maggie. We had plenty of long rallies, and we both had good serving spells. The surface at Shirley Park was a little bit icy with the frosty weather of course, so you had to watch your footing around the court's edges, but we played in the sunshine and soon warmed up nicely! Maggie has excellent shots in her locker, and it was a very good contest that could have gone either way. I look forward to our next match sometime in the near future."  -- Michael
