Player Comments:

  • "Nice to finally play Alain again. The score does not really reflect play. Alain had a chance. I had a chance. It was 50-50! Alain was just too tight. To be fair he has not played regularly like most of the other players. The big plus for both players was improvement in our serves. Keep it up Alain and groundstrokes keep striking mate!! I hope you remain in the league."  -- Ogba

Player Comments:

  • "Not often I get to play a lefty! Following momentum from last night win over Reece, I rushed to a 5-1 lead first set! only to be complacent and let Mohammed come back into the match!6-6. Then tie break I led 5-1 and this time ensured there was no complacency. 7-2 I took the set. Second set mohammed started the brighter and led 3-1, but I turned things around with some aggressive play and deft volleys! I really should have closed the game at 5-4! and 6-5! but again became casual at the finish line. Unfortunately just when I regained my focus having broken Mohammed and leading 2-1 in the tie break on serve the lights went out! Well played Mohammed and welcome to the top league! hopefully we can finish the match soon"  -- Ogba
  • "Ogba's a classy player look forward to completing our tight battle" -- Muhammad

Player Comments:

  • "Reece played a very compelling game I have to say. Good double fisted back hand drives caught me napping most times. Serves wise we both struggled in the overall phase of the match. Player Comments:

  • "Always good to play Alain and this was another epic ... first set I moved well and stayed strong in the rally breaking early and continuing the momentum to take the set convincingly .. into the 2nd and Alain came out the traps and played some great tennis hitting forehands, I had no answer to his quality and he romped away with it ... last set I managed to compose myself and managed to find some big serves when it mattered and be more consistent in the rally , pleased to get over the line , we’ll play Alain "  -- Reece

Reveal CommentJohn George bt Tim Staines (Oct 10) 7-6 (10-8), 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Tim again & as usual a very tight match with lots of breaks, twists & turns. Decent Autumnal weather outdoors at Rochford. I couldn't serve out 1st set after being 5 - 3 up as Tim won next 3 games convincingly. I managed to hold serve & in tie break took an early lead 3 - 0 but again Tim fought back to level. It was like this all tie break but I managed to win 10 - 8. 2nd set we had 6 breaks of serve for 3 - 3 before we both held next. I managed to break in 9th game & held mine just for the win. Great chat afterwards in very good company. See you again soon hopefully Tim & best of luck in remaining games."  -- John

Reveal CommentJohn George bt Daniel Kellard (Oct 2) 5-7, 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "First time meeting with Daniel & as we couldn't get a court inside, we played in lovely sunshine outside all be it a bit blustery & court a bit wet & slow meaning balls needed hitting. Daniel started well braking serve but I then managed to break back & took a 5 - 3 lead but Daniel played great to win 4 straight games to take set 7 - 5. 2nd set was a tight affair but I managed to get ahead & then get pegged back to 5 - 5 surviving some serving scares. Set went to me 7 - 5. Deciding set was really close to 3 - 3 but I then broke serve & held on to win 6 - 3. Daniel's younger legs nearly win the match for which he was extremely unlucky. Great match & hope our paths cross again in tennis & table tennis. "  -- John
Reveal CommentJohn George bt Paul Bhanji (Sep 26) 7-5, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Good, long, close match against Paul who got off to a flying start 2-0 & then 5-2. How he didn't win the set i don't know but I managed to claw back a few games & scrape the set. 2nd was similar as Paul went 3-0 up & 4 - 2 but I again I found some energy & went on to win 6-4. Great match against an improved opponent. Some good long rallies & Paul definitely deserved to get something out of the match. Best of luck for remaining games."  -- John

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentGerald Sverdloff bt Maddie Maxwell (Oct 29) 7-5, 3-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "I thought this would be a close one, as Gerry and my scores have been almost identical in our other matches. Thus it proved to be, as despite playing for the best part of 2 hours, we ended up a set all. Gerry had to go to work, so we've penciled in Friday to play the final set. More on this match later!"  -- Maddie
  • "When 1 of us had a good run for 2 or 3 games, the other promptly did the same thing! Thus it was when at 4-2 down 3rd set, I strung together winners to catch up to 4-4. 'Good' I thought, that's better - at which point Gerald hammers down 3 power 1st serves at 15 all to go 5-4 up. My serve game went deuce, van in, van out etc. until I decisively served a double fault on match point, and that was finally it! We both thoroughly enjoyed the match and Congratulations to Gerald on winning the league. (I was due to play Ian Tuesday, but I'm afraid my knee has an intermittent injury, and needs resting. We're going to play a friendly instead in the break.)" -- Gerald

Player Comments:

  • "The score doesn't reflect the fact that there were some really good rallies, with Steph not only getting to wide spinning shots, which she shouldn't have got anywhere near, but returning them cross court into the corner as winners! She has a very good serve, and good, steady ground shots. It was an enjoyable game, and I wish Steph the best of luck in the rest of her matches."  -- Maddie

Player Comments:

  • "Great to get back on a court after a few months off. Both Steph and I were pretty rusty and I think the result came down to who served the most inconsistently between us. That being said, Steph has a mean serve and will rustle some feathers in this round. Well played Steph, great to meet you and look forwards to seeing you next time round."  -- Dan
