Player Comments:

  • "A super early start this morning for Alain and I and despite that i felt fresh and came out of the blocks fast, Alain had never played on carpet before which didn't help his cause and i quickly took the first set without the loss of a game, Alain started rallying a bit more second set and we had a few decent rallies but ultimately i was just too consistent on the day and especially on this surface...Alain got on the scoreboard to make it 1-1 but i knuckled down and took the next 5 games to wrap up the win, along with the promise of a hard court match next time! Thanks for the game Alain."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "A high quality and bruising encounter with Ade this morning. Despite the early start both of us came out sharp and Ade's serving was consistently strong for the first few games with literally one tiny dip from him allowing me to break once and take the first set 6-3. We shared a couple of breaks at the start of the second set but i managed to break one more time and then had Ade in trouble again when he was serving to stay in the match at 3-5, it turned out to be a brutal game with eight deuces, Ade had several game point chances and i had FOUR match points but Ade saved them all somehow and then broke me straight back! Thankfully i managed to pull it together to break Ade one more time and finally take the set 7-5. Very well played Ade."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Richard Cable (Sep 23) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Nice to get up and running in the local league! Richard proved to be a very tricky opponent and the scoreline doesn't really reflect the closeness of many of the games, he said he hadn't played an awful lot of matches recently which meant in the tighter games i managed to pull through and steal them if it went to deuce, both sets followed exactly the same pattern, 2 all before i pulled away with a couple of breaks to take the match 6-2 6-2...Once Richard gets his eye in and plays a couple more matches i predict he will cause a few headaches with his slightly unorthodox style. Thanks for the game mate."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentAde Serrano bt Daniel Kellard (Sep 20) 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "The first set, Dan was up 5-2 and somehow I managed to claw it back. I was extremely frustrated with the way I was playing, and said something stupid to Dan. He in return was frustrated with losing the 1st set and reacted to what I said. We got into a bit of an arguement which could have been avoided. Very disappointing for the both of us, and we both couldn't let go of it during the second set. We both recovered our mindset for the 3rd set and made up. The third set was a rollercoaster, with both of us having the advantage at times. Towards the end of the 3rd set we were both playing extremely defensively, not taking risks and hoping for a mistake at the other end. One of the nicest guys I have played tennis with and a great battle."  -- Ade

Reveal CommentMaddie Maxwell bt Jonah Graham (Sep 22) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Although the score looks a bit one sided - the majority of the games went to deuce. A good competitive match, and good to welcome a new player into the league. Hailing from Canada, I think Jonah has possibly travelled the furthest to play in a tennis league! Pleasure to meet you Jonah, and good luck in the rest of your matches! "  -- Maddie
Reveal CommentJohn George bt Andrew Phillips (Sep 21) 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely warm sunny afternoon great match with Andrew. 1st 6 games all break of serve, managed to hold 1 each then a couple of more breaks to take us to a tie break for which Andrew went 3 - 0 up & probably should have won but I dug deep to win 7 - 4. Andrew played brilliantly in the 2nd set to win 6 - 2 & in the 3rd set it was fairly close with some excellent tennis being played. I managed to break in 8th game & then served out to win. Great match played by both players. Good luck Andrew."  -- John
