Player Comments:
- "There were a few good rallies in our match and John did have game points in at least 2 or 3 games but I managed to come back from being behind. Thank you for the game John " -- Paul
Reveal CommentDaniel Kellard bt Dave Rogers (Jul 29) 6-3, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "First meeting with Dave who raced off to a 3-0 lead. Serve was very problematic and I was slow out of the gate. Thankfully I kicked into some sort of gear and Dave lost the momentum. I won 6 games on the bounce to take the set. 2nd Set I felt confident but Dave did keep himself in the game breaking back when I was 2-0 up. In the end though I was able to stay in control and close it out. Well played Dave good luck in your future matches. " -- Daniel
Alain Nyama bt John George (Jul 28) 6-0, 6-2
Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Ade Serrano (Jul 22) 6-1, 7-5
Player Comments:
- "I got off to a good start in the first set and carried on through to take it 6-1, despite not serving that well. The second set was much closer with Ade going 4-3 and 5-4 up before I won the last 3 games to take the match. Thanks for the game Ade and hopefully we can play in the evening next time." -- Paul
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Daniel Kellard (Jul 21) 6-1, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Always good to play Dan and despite the ridiculous heat we both stupidly agreed to play indoors! I did what I normally try and do against Dan, play deep and aggressive and by and large it worked tonight although Dan himself was trying to play aggressively and had the occasional purple patch, but just not consistently and often enough to take more than a couple of games despite having several break points, although he did break me comfortably at the start of the second set. Thanks for the game mate." -- Ian
Reveal CommentAde Serrano bt Bruno Machado (Jul 17) 6-3, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Nice to see Bruno again. I have played Bruno before and I knew on this occasion I needed to be alot more aggressive, which I was. I was happy with my serving today also, which kept the pressure on Bruno for his service games. The first game of the match lasted about 15 minutes and I was dreading every game being that grueling, luckily I think that was the longest one. Very hot and sweaty conditions playing indoors today but an enjoyable game none the less. Good luck with the remaining games." -- Ade
Reveal CommentBruno Machado bt John George (Jul 16) 6-2, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Great evening to play with John. Very enjoyable game! Good luck on your next matches, John. All the best!" -- Bruno
Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Alain Nyama (Jul 14) 6-3, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Alain started off quite strongly and went into a 3-1 lead. From then on, I began to find my game and won the remaining games to close out the set. In the second set I enjoyed the tennis more, something I haven't done for a little while and won it for the loss of just one game. Alain did hit some good returns with one that I had to retrieve way outside the court. I managed to run it down but it left the court wide open for Alain to hit a winner but unfortunately he hit it into the net. I consoled with Alain saying it isn't always easy to take your chances. I did exactly the same thing against Ian in my previous match. Thanks Alain for the game. " -- Paul
Reveal CommentDaniel Kellard bt Alain Nyama (Jul 11) 6-4, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "First meeting with Alain and it was a good contest. 1st Set I got an early break but then Alain responded and himself went a break up. I managed to rally and fight back eventually breaking Alain when 5-4 up. 2nd Set Alain got an early break but I managed to play well enough to build momentum and win it 6-2. Well played and good luck for the rest of your matches." -- Daniel
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Daniel Kellard (Jul 10) 6-4, 6-0
Player Comments:
- "My first ever meeting with Daniel. First set, I was quite relaxed not because I didn't take Daniel seriously but because I had played so many matches doubles and singles in the last couple of days. Daniel did well to capitalise on my lapses and gained confidence. He almost took the game to 5-5! But I was determined to hold on. Daniel should be happy with his performance. Second set I upped the tempo and gave Daniel no chance. There was even time for some coaching tips afterwards :) I hope the tips works for you in remainder of your matches. " -- Ogba
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Paul Bundock Steel (Jul 10) 6-2, 6-0
Player Comments:
- "After losing a frustratingly close first ever match against Paul last time out i was determined to make amends and certainly prior knowledge of his tricky game helped me a lot today, i came out very focused with my own serve working especially well and coupled with the fact i was putting pressure on every one of Paul's service games meant he found the going very tough, his normal reliable slices were letting him down plus his own serve wasn't firing either so after a closer than the score suggests first set i raced through the second for a very satisfying win. Thanks for the game Paul." -- Ian
Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Reece Syrett (Jul 8) 5-7, 6-0, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "In the first set I was trying to serve and volley but Reece was hitting some good returns and passes which forced me to change my game plan and stay back more. Despite this, I was close to going 5-2 up but once I missed this opportunity, Reece won the next 5 games to take a set off me for the first time. In the second set, Reece's level dropped and I concentrated more, bringing me a much easier set. The third was similar with some very long rallies and both of us running many balls down. Reece hung in there and nicked a couple of games before I regained my composure to seal a win in the fading light. Well played Reece for winning that first set." -- Paul
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Reece Syrett (Jul 7) 6-3, 6-0
Player Comments:
- "I welcome back Reece to the top league. First set he showed spirited fight but I was solid with my returning and ball placement. My eyes glued on the ball and I anticipated very well his movement more often than not to win the points. Second set , I continued the momentum and Reece eventually capitulated. Credit to Reece but I was too strong today. I wish you all the best in the rest of your games." -- Ogba
Reveal CommentAde Serrano bt Alain Nyama (Jul 6) 6-2, 7-6 (7-0)
Player Comments:
- "Nice to see Alain in the top league again. I got off to a fast and commanding start, not allowing Alain any chance to settle. Second set I eased off and allowed Alain a chance to settle and gain some confidence. Towards the end of the second set he found some form and confidence and was playing some great shots. Done what I needed to when the set came down to a tiebreak. Good luck with the remaining matches." -- Ade
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Paul Bundock Steel (Jul 6) 6-3, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "It's always a tough match when I play Paul. He will make you work. I started again very well. Led 3-0 but Paul fought hard I couldn't make it 4-0! From then on Paul grew in confidence and really showed some good fighting spirit but I was determined not to let the set slip and eventually took it 6-3. Second set was same I was 3-0 up but again could not advance to 4-0 as Paul was playing very well. He was chasing every thing I throw at him. 4-2, then 5-2, then 5-3. He was returning well and angled couple of aces. I then made up my mind to commit to a particular corner each time and I kept driving the ball there during each rally length. It seem to work and I was happy to break his serve and got the win 6-4. Well played Paul" -- Ogba
Reveal CommentReece Syrett bt John George (Jul 6) 6-3, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Been a while since I last played John so was good to catch up and get a game in.. wasn’t a classic between us with both of us not perhaps playing near our best , I certainly felt a bit sluggish around the court . Luckily though I had enough to get a win on the board , best of luck " -- Reece
Reveal CommentBruno Machado bt Dave Rogers (Jul 5) 6-3, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Very nice to meet Dave. It took me a while to start figuring out how to deal with his low, full of spin serves. Good luck with your next games, Dave!" -- Bruno
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Alain Nyama (Jul 4) 6-0, 6-0
Player Comments:
- "Good to meet Alain again and to guarantee playing we had to play indoors which suited both of us, compared to me tho I don’t think Alain has played an awful lot of tennis recently so he was up against it from the off and I was in a ruthless mood. Thanks for the game tho Alain, hopefully you can pick up a few wins from your other matches." -- Ian
Reveal CommentBruno Machado bt Daniel Kellard (Jul 3) 6-2, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Tricky weather conditions before the match, but it turned out to be a nice and warm afternoon of tennis at Daniel's club in Basildon. It was a pleasure to meet you, Daniel. Good luck on your next games!" -- Bruno
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Reece Syrett (Jul 2) 6-0, 7-5
Player Comments:
- "Great conditions at Baddow today and although I’ve played Reece probably more than anyone else recently this was our first local league meeting…for whatever reason tho Reece got off to a very poor start indeed, he couldn’t get his game going at all and I quickly took the set 6-0. 2nd set was completely different however, had Reece on the ropes in his first service game but he held firm and when I broke him at 1-1 he quickly got it back. His service game at 4-4 must have lasted at least 15 minutes and again he held on saving break points, it took a lot out of him so after a quick hold from me he had to do it all again which proved to be too tough a task and I sneaked over the line 7-5. A match of two halves for sure, unlucky in the end mate." -- Ian
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Ian Wright (Jun 30) 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (9-7)
Player Comments:
- "Coming into this one. It was 1-1 head-to-head. All matches has been home for Ian so it was only fair he had an away match so to speak :) In any case I knew I had to focus and be well tuned in if I was to stand any chance to win. And boy! I was well tuned in. Started explosive from the blocks! Overall a good game of tennis I know Ian would be itching to make amends." -- Ogba
- "Cracking two and a half hour marathon with Ogba today who went 4-0 up so my 6-2 loss was a small recovery, we traded breaks 2nd set but i got the crucial one late on to nick it 7-5! Same pattern start of the 3rd but from 3-3 we both held firm to the TB, i went from 4-1 down to 6-4 up but a double fault and net cord from Ogba at 7-6 killed me! Well played mate, carpet next time tho right?!" -- Ian

Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Daniel Kellard (Jun 30) 6-2, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Daniel was a good opponent for a first game and he got a long of balls back forcing me to play one extra shot. A pleasant game played in a good spirit. Thank you for the game Daniel and all the best in this league and your remaining matches." -- Paul
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt John George (Jun 29) 6-0, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Good to meet and play John for the first time and as it suited us both we played an early one at my club at Great Baddow, great conditions as it turned out and much nicer than the stifling heat at David Lloyd last night! :/ John struggled a bit on serve throughout with a few too many doubles which didn't help his cause and i just concentrated on putting balls back as deep as i could which gave me a comfortable first set, John was determined to put up more of a fight second set and broke me first game with the help of some excellent returns, a few closer games followed but ultimately my consistency was too much for John and the double faults proved costly. Thanks for the game mate, will definitely get down to Rochford to play you next time." -- Ian
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Bruno Machado (Jun 28) 6-0, 4-6, [12-10]
Player Comments:
- "Pleasure to meet and play Bruno tonight for what turned out to be a very gruelling match in the end! I got off to a lightning fast start catching Bruno cold in one of the best sets I’ve played in a while but of course it couldn’t last, the first 6 games of the second sets were all breaks and whilst Bruno only got his first hold of the match at 3-4 it was a crucial one, a marathon game with lots of game points and a couple of break points I couldn’t take, by this stage I was flagging a bit and lost my serve again before Bruno held serve comfortably to nick the set. I had to dig in at 7-4 down in the TB, wasted a match point at 9-8 and then Bruno did the same at 10-9 before I finally got over the line. Unlucky mate, I see more battles ahead!" -- Ian
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Alain Nyama (Jun 27) 6-0, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "Good to see Alain back playing in the top league. We have had some good matches in the past me and Alain but today it was a one-sided affair. Alain showed some fighting spirit in between the games and toward the end of the match but It was not to be his day. Once again welcome back to the top group and all the best in the rest of your matches." -- Ogba
Reveal CommentDaniel Kellard bt John George (Jun 27) 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Our 2nd meeting and once again it was another long testing battle. I came out of the traps quickly and went 3-0 up. John started to find some rhythm but the early advantage was enough for me to win it 6-3. 2nd Set it was me who didn’t get going John went up 4-1. I managed to get into gear and draw level at 4-4. In the tie break I led throughout and at 6-3 I was close to finishing things off. John kept battling though and I just couldn’t get that last point. I had a shot that just went long and John won 5 points in a row to win it 8-6. 3rd Set I had to put the disappointment behind me. I managed to kick away to 5-2 before finally serving out at 5-3 after a few deuces. Full credit to John. Always competes to the end. Well played. " -- Daniel
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Dave Rogers (Jun 24) 6-0, 6-0
Player Comments:
- "Great to meet to Ian, hopefully give Ian more of a match next time " -- Dave
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Ade Serrano (Jun 22) 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6)
Player Comments:
- "Brutal match with Ade today and easily our best and closest match yet! Ade came storming out and broke me with some scintillating returns and shots, i got the break straight back but could only hold on to my serve once more in a one sided set which was easily the best set Ade has played against me and i suspect against many others it was that good, I got off to a much better start second set with Ade's level dipping slightly to perhaps conserve energy for a colossal 3rd set, i got my nose in front and with Ade serving at 3-5 0-40 i thought i had the match won but he somehow held on, broke me back to go into a tiebreak, Ade looked the likely winner at 6-3 up but i dug in to take the next 5 points and the match. Unlucky mate and well played." -- Ian
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Dave Rogers (Jun 21) 6-1, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "My first ever game with Dave. Nice guy. Again we managed to beat the weather. Always tricky playing a lefty but I managed to dominate in the rallies. And good movement in the forecourt. Tricky serves too! All the best in rest of your matches" -- Ogba
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Ade Serrano (Jun 21) 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "Not greatest of weather conditions but courts were playable and some really good rallies! First set Ade was a bit stiff, his first proper match since lockdown finished. But he made up serving 'bombs'! And in a flash he was 5-2 up! I had to dig deep and took lots of risks and it paid off as I level 5-5 and eventually took the tie break and set 7-5 which again Ade led 5-2! Second set Ade took more risks and was braver. He continued serving well and rapped up the set 6-2 making no mistakes at 5-2 up . Third set was change of swing and momentum on my part. I raced to 4-2 but Ade kept fighting and much loosened up but I was determined to hold on at 5-4! Eventually did take 6-4! Well played Ade am sure you will come back stronger!" -- Ogba
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt John George (Jun 17) 6-1, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "My 1st game back in the big boys league & good to see the legend that is Ogba again & get a tennis lesson. I had the audacity to break his serve halfway through the set though & then paid for it. 2nd set, I made a match of it but not quite good enough losing 3 - 6 but managed to win a couple of service games We did well well to beat the rain. Enjoyed my run out & good to chat with Ogba. Best of luck in remaining games." -- John

- "Nice to see Paul again. It's some years since we last played. The first set I got ahead and stayed there, but the 2nd set was far more competitive. I was 3-1up but Paul caught up to be 4-3 ahead. I managed to recover to 5-4 ahead, and just got through 7-5. Paul had some very good passing shots down the line on his backhand, altogether it was an enjoyable game. See you again next time Paul. Player Comments:
- "It was good to meet Andrew again. The match unfolded as our previous encounters - nip and tuck, with many hard fought rallies. I edged ahead in the third set. (I must record that in a warm-down, first-to-20-points game, Andrew was the victor 20-11 ! Looking forward to meeting up again - perhaps even in doubles format with others from this group ? Tim " -- Tim
Reveal CommentDanny Ramsay bt Maddie Maxwell (Aug 7) 5-7, 6-2, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Nice to meet Danny, we've not played before. The first set I went ahead, but Danny kept hanging on in there saving several set points and eventually I got it 7-5. We were chatting about how we'd both not decided whether to play safe, or go for it in the first set, and we both decided to go for shots from then on. Danny came out all guns blazing, got ahead, and stayed ahead for the second set, (which I think was better one!), and won it 6-2. At this point we were out of time, as all 3 courts were booked for a club league match at 7.30pm, which would mean stopping the match. We decided to play the 3rd set another time. I look forward to that Danny, will be in touch." -- Maddie
- "I made up my mind that I would not let Maddie take control of the last set. It was like playing a tie breaker and every point was important for the both of us. I could sense that Maddie was not on her game and the match was a comfortable win in the end for me. I like to thank Maddie for being a good sport and fair player and I hope to play her again soon." -- Danny
Reveal CommentMaddie Maxwell bt Dan Church (Aug 6) 6-0, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Good to see Dan again. This was our 5th attempt to get the match played! Dan didn't really hit form until the 2nd set, where he pulled up from 4-1 down to 4-3, and with a strong cross wind, it was difficult to settle into a rhythm. Good luck with the rest of your matches soon, and look forward to our match next time round.." -- Maddie

Reveal CommentDanny Ramsay bt Kevin Downey (Aug 6) 6-2, 4-6, 7-5Player Comments:
- "Kevin, was a good player and and a gentleman. The first set I dominated it and Kevin only held his serve once. In the second set Kevin begin to take control of the set with some positive play. I could not take back control and Kevin deservedly won the set. The final set I won the first 2 games and was on course to win comfortable but our time on court was up. We had go from indoor courts to outdoor courts where the weather was windy and it change the dynamics of the match. It was a struggle for both of us to attack or control the direction of the ball. Both of us played to not make mistakes and in the end I luckily won the last set 7-5. Kevin good luck in your remaining matches- Danny " -- Danny

Reveal CommentJonah Graham bt Danny Ramsay (Aug 4) 3-6, 6-3, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "A well played match from both ends. Danny took a confident win in the first set, with some nice patience and waiting for me to make some unforced errors. Danny has a consistent serve and is just a bit hard on himself. I was forced to change up the play style from my usual volley game as he kept me at the base line with his lobs. The change helped as I was able to come back and take the next 2 sets due to some lucky shots and drop shots to change up the pace. Well played Danny!" -- Jonah
Reveal CommentPaul Bhanji bt Kevin Downey (Aug 2) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:
- "Jonah is on the up and up ! This was a gruelling match (for me, at least) with plenty of deuce games. Jonah gave me very few easy points, so congratulations to him. I'm looking forward to playing Jonah again; as the score suggests, our matches are getting tighter and tighter." -- Tim
Reveal CommentPaul Bhanji bt Ian Fraser (Jul 29) 6-1, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Windy but dry starting in the middle of the evening. Having played at Chalkwell recently, I was used to the feel of the court, especially the slope, so the first set was uneventful. Ian made it harder in the second, getting an early break. Soon after one of the game went to many deuces and proved to be decisive, finishing before the sun went down." -- Paul
Reveal CommentKevin Downey bt Dan Church (Jul 29) 7-5, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "Shattered ! Great to meet Dan; what a lovely guy. Match could have gone either way. My money on Dan if we had gone 3 sets; we would have had to turn the lights off as we played 2 hours. Numerous deuce games. I somehow went into a 5-1 first set lead, with about 6 set points but Dan played well to come back to 5-5. I got lucky with Dan’s serve deserting him at key moments. When that serve goes well, it is a lethal weapon. I also forgot Dan is a lefty, putting the ball to his blistering forehand. Second set went to 5-2 and had match points but Dan did the same as set 1 and made a comeback; however I scraped through with some fluke net cords and some double faults from Dan. Happy with my serve going well. You’ll get me next time Dan " -- Kevin

Reveal CommentPaul Bhanji bt Danny Ramsay (Jul 26) 6-1, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "The score in the first set belies the fact that there were a lot of games that went to deuce more than once. In the second set I was 4-0 up, then Danny decided to just keep getting the ball back and make me play another shot! It worked, he won 4 out of 5 games, again with a lot of them going to deuce. I just managed to get past the post in my final service game, which of course went to deuce a few times as well!" -- Paul

Reveal CommentJonah Graham bt Kevin Downey (Jul 23) 6-3, 4-6, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Kevin was a blast to play against. We had a very competitive match evolving our playing styles as we played one another. When I went up to volley, Kevin started playing the lines, when he started lobbing I began a baseline game; adjusting to each others adapting play styles. It was a great match and I think we both walked away better players. Can't wait to play again." -- Jonah
Reveal CommentPaul Bhanji bt Dan Church (Jul 21) 6-4, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "It took a few games for us both to get used to the bounce of the balls in the heat with the bounce taking it over shoulder height quite easily! I had to work hard to have decent serves and restrict the angles, getting picked off if I didn't! Until next time!" -- Paul

Player Comments:
- "I can’t even remember how the first half of this match went but we were dead level at 1 set all, 1 game all in the 3rd. We agreed to play a friendly warm up set which was very close and then onto the decider. Again, very close, Jonah playing some lovely stuff and despite my serve being on form for once, Jonah was pinging winners back past me. Had to dig in deep to win it but well played Jonah, very enjoyable match as always and look forwards to the next round." -- Dan
Reveal CommentIan Fraser bt Danny Ramsay (Jul 14) 6-2, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "By his own admittance, Danny has played very little tennis in the last eighteen months, so consequently is very rusty. Having said that, Danny does have lots of potential. However, he was constantly going for his ‘shots’ and making numerous unforced errors. My plan was to take the pace of the ball and just try to get the ball back into the court. This tactic was pretty effective. Don’t be too hard on yourself Danny, and the best of luck in your future matches." -- Ian

- "The wind was not that strong but constant making the ball go long from one end and helping it to stay in from the other. The second game of the second set, my first service game, went to a whole load of deuces, so the score does not reflect the number of points played!" -- Paul
Reveal CommentAndrew Phillips bt Danny Ramsay (Jul 12) 6-0, 7-5
Player Comments:
- "Thanks Danny Good to play again. Catch up soon. Andrew " -- Andrew
Reveal CommentMaddie Maxwell bt Jonah Graham (Jul 9) 6-0, 7-6 (7-3)
Player Comments:
- "Nice to see Jonah again. The 1st set I played a pretty tight game, but safe. The last game went on for 7 deuces tho' as Jonah settled in, and was 2-0 up 2nd set. I decided to play more aggressively, going to net, and so did Jonah - so we both stepped up a gear, making the 2nd set very close and competitive. I saved a couple of set points and finally edged thru' on the tiebreak. Good game Jonah - I look forward to our next meet. Good luck with the rest of your matches!" -- Maddie
Reveal CommentPaul Bhanji bt Tim Staines (Jul 7) 6-4, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Tim makes you work hard for every point. Placing the ball very well and defending well. Quite a few close games." -- Paul
Reveal CommentTim Staines bt Ian Fraser (Jul 5) 3-6, 6-3, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Ian and I played out a really well-fought match, as the score indicates. Ian played really well in the first set, but eventually fatigue set in, and I was able to grind him down ! Thanks Ian for playing the match, as I know you had had a busy and energy-sapping few days. Good wishes for the rest of your matches, Tim." -- Tim
Reveal CommentMaddie Maxwell bt Ian Fraser (Jul 2) 6-3, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "Good to see Ian again. This was a competitive match, although we both were flagging a bit towards the end with the humidity and heat. I managed to pull ahead by 3 games in both sets, which left Ian playing catch up, and although he pulled back from 4-1 down to 4-3 in the 2nd set, I managed to stay ahead to win it 6-4. Good luck in your other games Ian, and see you again next time." -- Maddie
Andrew Phillips bt Jonah Graham (Jul 1) 6-4, 6-2
Reveal CommentTim Staines bt Danny Ramsay (Jul 1) 6-2, 6-2
Player Comments:
- "Unlike our recent match at David Lloyd, Danny and I played our match indoors. The critical game was the fifth in the second set, with Danny threatening a comeback. After a series of deuces I held on to win the game by the skin of my teeth, and eventually won the set. A warm-down loosener after we finished the match showed that a relaxed Danny had many more shots and fewer errors. Nice to meet to play again, Danny, and best wishes for your remaining matches !" -- Tim
Reveal CommentIan Fraser bt Jonah Graham (Jun 26) 6-0, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "Don’t let the score deceive you, as this match wasn’t as one sided as the score suggests. Several of the games went to deuce, but Johan couldn’t seem to close a game out. His second serve, in particular letting him down. As for me, this is about as well as I’ve ever played in the last few years, so I’m well chuffed. All the best for your remaining matches Johan." -- Ian
Reveal CommentDanny Ramsay bt Dan Church (Jun 26) 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 Dan Church Retired
Player Comments:
- "I started off on fire and won the first 9 games before Danny started to find his range. At 0-3 down in the 2nd, Danny won the next 5 to make it 5-3. I nicked the next to break the run but couldn’t stop Danny taking the set. First game of the 3rd set and disaster struck. While setting myself for a volley at the net I managed to jar my back and couldn’t continue and spent the rest of the weekend on the sofa like an old man. I’m on the mend though so I’ll be back in a week or so thankfully. Well played to Danny who stuck in there and got back into the game. See you again next time." -- Dan
Reveal CommentMaddie Maxwell bt Kevin Downey (Jun 19) 4-6, 6-0, 6-4
Player Comments:
- "It was good to meet Kevin, and it was probably the best opening match for both of us, as Kevin's not played for a while, and I'm recovering from an arm injury. We were both pretty rusty opening set, but gradually found our feet, with Kevin serving out the 1st set with an Ace! I realised that the best way to make an impact would be to come up to net, so I was serve and volleying 2nd set, to good effect. The 3rd set, I was 4-2, 30-40 down on my serve so I decided to save my arm and serve underarm, . Turned out it was the best thing I could've done, as I won that game, broke serve, won my serve underarm again for a 6-4 win. I've suggested Kevin joins Invicta. A It was a good competitive game. Good luck Kevin in your remaining matches!" -- Maddie
