Player Comments:

  • "After losing to an inspired Mo on indoor hard court last time we played i was understandably wary going into this especially after a couple of impressive results for him recently, this time we played on the artificial clay at Westcliff and even tho conditions were perfect i got off to a very nervy start losing my serve with the help of a couple of doubles, luckily i was able to break straight back and gradually get my nose in front as i realised Mo maybe wasn't as comfortable on the surface as i thought...Taking a tricky first set 6-2 gave me the momentum to go 2-0 up 2nd set and even tho Mo broke back that was a far as he could get and i was able to come through a few difficult moments to see it out 6-1. Many thanks for the game mate."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentReece Syrett bt Paul Bundock Steel (Mar 8) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A very satisfying win for me today as Paul is usually a player I tend to have difficulty playing . I came out first set the aggressor and took and attacking game to Paul which meant I went 4-1 up , and change of tactic from Paul got him back to 4-3 with some high loopy balls causing me grief but I stayed positive and took the set . Again 2nd set I came out fast and raced to a 5-2 lead playing some passing shots and I even had 3 match points , but it’s never over with Paul and he grinded it back to 5-4 , luckily I broke him at the end to get over the line , thankfully I did as I had nothing left in the tank for a third .. well played Paul see you next round "  -- Reece
Reveal CommentMo Noor bt Ogba Ogbimi (Mar 6) 6-2, 5-7, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Finally feel like I'm working my way back into form. Last time I played Ogba I can only describe it as being a 'tank' i was in no state of mind to play tennis . This time was a very different affair. First set I was playing in the zone shots were crisp powerful and precise and took the set comfortably. Second set I thought I was going to pull away but credit to ogba we began to go toe to toe and he hit some crisp forehand winners . it was very tight i had many chances to go up 6-5 but ogba was clutch and took the set. Very pleased with my mindset final set I reset and focused on playing solid tennis , targeted his backhand and managed to pull away comfortably. Well played Ogba great battle"  -- Mo
Reveal CommentDaniel Kellard bt Richard Cable (Mar 6) 6-1, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing against Richard and it was an enjoyable match. 1st Set I got off to a quick start and was able to wrap it up comfortably. 2nd Set Richard broke me early and started playing a lot more solidly. I went a further break down and at 5-2 was faced with going into a decider. I managed to up my game and put some pressure on which was enough to get me back into the set. Really nice guy hope to see you again soon. Well played."  -- Daniel

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Bradley Payne (Mar 5) 2-6, 6-3, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A very good match with Bradley tonight on the Billericay clay bubble. Best performance I have seen by Bradley since our first ever match on hard court in Rochford 5 years ago. First set, my serve didn't click and Bradley took full advantage. He also hit some excellent groundstrokes winners to take set 6-2. 2nd set, My serves clicked so well. We traded toe to toe with either Bradley or myself coming up with an excellent winner at the end of the rally. Bradley had 3 net cords in his favour but that aside he served and hit the ball so well. However, my serves clicked big time to take the set 6-3! 3rd set, Bradley looked tired but still kept playing so well. My serves continued to click and my aggressive tempo saw me to finish line 7-5!"  -- Ogba
Reveal CommentMo Noor bt Daniel Kellard (Mar 5) 6-1, 7-6 (11-9)

Player Comments:

  • "Been a while since I played Dan . First set was very comfortable I came out all guns blazing and took it comfortably putting away the short balls. After that I thought it was in the bag but how wrong was I. Second set was a marathon combination of i got complacent and Dan upped his game and was more attacking missed set point and 6-5 and went to a breaker. Dan had so many chances and squandered many set points in the end I just edged it. Well played Dan , second set you probably deserved to win."  -- Mo
Reveal CommentBradley Payne bt Richard Cable (Mar 4) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Nice to meet Richard! First time we have played eachother in the leagues! Played outside in the rain in ok conditions!! Balls where heavy but bounced! Richard has some good shots in his locker but I seemed to edge him out in both sets!! Well played Richard look forward to playing again on better conditions 👏 "  -- Bradley
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Paul Bundock Steel (Mar 3) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Paul and I decided to switch to the outdoor courts at Westcliff and as it turned out conditions were perfect with no wind whatsoever, i had only played Paul on indoor courts previously so i thought the outdoor conditions would suit him better but as it turned out i made by far the stronger start, winning the first 4 games before Paul had 15-40 on my serve, i was able to come through that crisis to see out the first set 6-0....some sloppy errors from me in the 1st game of the second set got Paul on the board with a break but i was quickly able to turn things back in my favour to go 4-1 in front before Paul finally won his first service game but ultimately he was unable to stop me taking the set & the match. Thanks for the game Paul."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentLee Cossins bt Richard Cable (Mar 3) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Good match with Richard this afternoon. I started well holding my opening service game and then broke Richards 1st but then a loose game aloud Richard to break back. The 1st few games seemed to have a pretty high tempo and I could feel it in my legs to start off with but then the pace slowed down a little and I felt better moving about and got more 1st serves in which always helps confidence. The second set went a bit easier but was still well contested with some pretty long and good quality rallies. Richard is good at getting around the court so I had to work for most points. He just made a few more errors with a few double faults so I could get in front and win the important points. Look forward to playing again always a good match."  -- Lee
Reveal CommentDaniel Kellard bt Lee Cossins (Feb 27) 6-3, 4-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "I’ve fared well against Lee in the past but coming to his home court I expected a tough encounter. After being kicked off the Clay Courts we moved to Artificial Grass and I was able to kick clear. Lee made some errors and I just concentrated on getting the ball back on an unfamiliar service. 2nd Set Lee got on top with an early break and I was never able to claw it back. At this point he was hitting a lot more winners and I was in a bit of trouble. 3rd Set I had to battle not to be broken. After coming through that Lee seemed to get frustrated and the errors came back. I ended up kicking away to win the match. Unfortunately Lee didn’t enjoy my style of Tennis. Playing on a new court I was quite passive.I played to my strengths. Well played"  -- Daniel
Reveal CommentBradley Payne bt Reece Syrett (Feb 25) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Was expecting a tough match 2nite against Reece! We usually have a good battle!! I put the pressure on early 2nite and reece didn't respond! Wasn't at the races today! But I kept the pressure on and played my game! I have been 5-0 up against reece before and lost! So was nice to close the match out easily today See you soon"  -- Bradley
Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Mo Noor (Feb 22) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "The conditions were really good for tennis tonight. Mo was going for his shots early on but I managed to get a lot back into play and eventually drawing some errors from Mo's raquet. I went 5-2 up but Mo nicked the eighth game before I closed it out in the next. In the second set, Mo began to change his tactics and after going 2-5 down, managed to claw his way back to 4-5 with some really good retrieving and became my clone on court. Fortunately I won the tenth game to win the match. Now I know what it feels like to play me sometimes. All the best Mo in your remaining games."  -- Paul
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Paul Bundock Steel (Feb 20) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "I wouldn't say this was our best match. Only because the windy conditions disrupted our rhythm most times. However, I handled situations better today than Paul did. Paul numerous times could not capitalise on advantage to game. He fluffed it numerous times. Again maybe the conditions. However, I managed to take mine in decisive moments. Overall, Paul played better I would say compared to our last outing . Really hope our next one would be excellent weather. All the best in rest of your matches "  -- Ogba
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Bradley Payne (Feb 19) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Today was our first meeting in local league and Brad very quickly settled into the match on the clay courts, serving really well and putting me on the back foot with some great returns, was no surprise when he broke to go 3-1 and even tho i broke straight back he punished me again to go 4-2, i managed to break back again and even tho Brad had points to go 5-3 i clung on before breaking one more time & serving out a set I could easily have lost. When I broke Brad twice to go 3-0 I thought I had the match won but Brad to his credit came storming back to make it 4-4 before I got the all important last break to nick it. Make no mistake Brad had me under the cosh for a big chunk of this match and deserved a set at least. Very well played mate."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Richard Cable (Feb 18) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "First time I can recall playing Richard and felt quite relaxed at the start of the match. Despite having 2 net cords go against me in one game, I felt in control. In the second set, Richard had a point to win a second game but I then reeled off 3 points to take the game and go 4-1 up. In the end, I felt relaxed and was able to play my natural game which hasn't always been the case of late. Due to the weather, Richard very kindly picked me up and dropped me home afterwards. Thank you Richard. Great guy!"  -- Paul
Reveal CommentBradley Payne bt Lee Cossins (Feb 16) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Always a pleasure to play Lee! Plays the game correctly and always has a go! Lovely clay surface that really suited my game 2nite! I put the pressure on early and tried to keep infront mixing my game up keeping lee guessing!! Lee hit some great forehand winners but I was more consistent 2nite and served a little better!! All the best in your other matches"  -- Bradley
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Reece Syrett (Feb 14) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Today definitely doesn’t rank as one of mine and Reece’s best matches as the windy damp conditions at Baddow meant that it was never going to be a classic, both of us struggled a bit to play decent shots with any confidence and it just came down to who could cope slightly better. I went 2-0 ahead early on but holding on to any break was tricky and I was quickly pegged back but still managed to get the crucial break at 4-4 to fall over the line. Second set I again got the early break to go 3-1 but this time held that advantage all the way through to see the match out with Reece being taken to deuce in quite a few of his service games but managing to hold firm. Not fantastic tennis but a solid win nonetheless, cheers mate."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Daniel Kellard (Feb 13) 6-0, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Indoor courts were at a premium this morning so Dan and I decided to give it a go in the bubble for a change so at least no issues with the weather, it was still pretty chilly tho and I definitely caught Dan cold in the first set by barely putting a foot wrong winning it 6-0 before Dan had even had a chance to get going…at 2-0 down it looked like Dan may have been heading for the exit but to his credit he refused to lie down and a sloppy service game from me gave him a deserved break followed by a solid hold to make it 2-2, he was definitely starting to make the rallies more difficult but I dug in and got the vital break to make it 4-2 and even tho Dan held once more I was able to see out the match. Thanks as always for the game mate."  -- Ian
Reveal CommentIan Wright bt Ogba Ogbimi (Feb 11) 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "I have to say once again Ian coped better with his favourite carpet court surface . I won the toss and chose to serve. I was quickly broken and from then out very wayward in my play. I didn't really test Ian at all. Instead I was having so many unforced area and the humid indoor conditions was dealing me a blow. Fought hard to avoid a bagel and eventually Ian took the set 6-2. Second set I started well 2-0 up but couldn't consolidated. Then it was 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 eventually Ian broke and I couldn't broke back to at least play a tie break. I told Ian now I play in DL I would like our match there again next time. As I would be used to the conditions the more I play there. But we'll played Ian and all the best in rest of your matches"  -- Ogba
Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Bradley Payne (Feb 10) 6-4, 2-6, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The first set was quite competitive and although I was ahead in the scoreline, Bradley kept me honest by winning the ninth game before I was fortunately able to serve it out. In the second set there was a dispute over a line call and Bradley reminded me about the league rules surrounding lines calls and that if you are unsure about whether a ball was in or out, you have to give it to your opponent. This happened at game point and so subsequently, Bradley won the game. This then affected my concentration which helped Bradley to win the second set fairly comfortably. In the final set, I went 3-0 ahead before Bradley pulled it back to 3-2. We then shared the next two games before I won the last two to take the match. Thanks Bradley "  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "My second meeting with Richard. In our 1st ever meeting 2years ago at the Gunners, Shoebury Richard took a set off me. Classic example of complacency on my part! In first set I led 2-0 but took my foot off the pedal and Richard punished me to win set 6-3!, before I then did him a double bagel. That was last time we played. This time no complacency. I took the vital points when it really mattered even though no bagels this time around :) Keep working on the tactical aspects of your game and am sure you will do even better in future games "  -- Ogba

Player Comments:

  • "Been a good couple of years since I last faced mo, so was good to face off once again . I knew I would have to work hard and get a lot of balls back and I felt I did this really well. We both didn’t serve our best leading to opportunity for both of us .. ultimately I’d say I had the more potent shots in the rally to finish off the point , well played though and good luck "  -- Reece
Reveal CommentOgba Ogbimi bt Daniel Kellard (Feb 5) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Once again a good match with Daniel. The scoreline may appear a one sided affair but Daniel gave me a real battle. Ist set I struggled with serve However, like my match against Reece I was the more effective in the overall game situations and took the vital points today. That was the difference!. Am sure Daniel will come back even stronger the next time. All the best in the rest of your matches."  -- Ogba
Reveal CommentDaniel Kellard bt Paul Bundock Steel (Feb 3) 6-1, 7-6 (10-8)

Player Comments:

  • "I’ve never really tested Paul in our 2 previous meetings so I went into this with a free mind. 1st Set I was the recipient of some unusual errors and I was closing games out quickly. I played solidly without being spectacular and it worked for a lot of the match. 2nd Set I again broke early and raced off to a 5-1 lead again. Then Paul clicked into gear and turned it into a gruelling slug fest. The errors stopped coming and I couldn’t stem the tide despite needing just the 1 game. 5-1 turned into 5-6 and I thought the chance had gone. I changed things up being a bit more aggressive and broke back. Tie Break came and Paul led 5-2 and had set points. I kept going though and finished game with an overhead backhand. Well Played Paul."  -- Daniel

  • "Think I played my first ever local league match against Richard nearly 2 years ago so it was good to finally play him again, as I told him after I’ve played an awful lot of tennis in that time so felt confident going into the match and quickly put pressure on Richard’s serve plus he was struggling to deal with mine…Apart from one game where he had a break point chance and one good service hold he didn’t have much go his way but he did keep fighting till the end regardless. Thanks for the game mate and good luck in all your remaining games."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "First local league match between Lee and I and first time for me at Billericay on their artificial clay courts under the bubble and despite the bright sun I thought conditions were pretty decent and quickly settled into the game…Unfortunately for Lee letting slip a early lead in his first service game gave me an early break and from there on in I felt pretty relaxed throughout whereas he was feeling a bit tired so fighting a bit of an uphill battle, after he held to make it 2-3 first set I was able to gradually pull away to take the set 6-2, second set I made things even more difficult for Lee by taking it 6-0. Cheers for the game tho mate and the chance to play at your club, hopefully you can get some wins on the board soon."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "It's been a battle recently playing Reece. We played a few friendlies before start of the league and it was very close. In fact Reece beat me in the last one. But it was always going to be a different match come tournament/competition. Despite the score line I have to say Reece's game has improved a lot. Better court coverage and anticipation. I was just more consistent and efficient in game situations today. Really have to dig deep on my service games most times not as efficient as I would like. Particularly, digging deep 3-5 down second set. Good match to open league. All the best in rest of your other matches"  -- Ogba

I noticed that no outside poles are used here in the single game, which means that the net is very loose in the middle, which of course favors net rollers and has nothing to do with luck! The reason for the two game losses were two times two double mistakes in my own service game and short concentration weakness. Good luck Danny"  -- Mansoor

There were a lot of breaks in the first set because both players were very insecure when serving. I was able to win the first set at 5:4 and 6:5, but the tie break had to decide, where I also led 5:3. We both had set points and I made a double fault and Joel won 11-9. Since I was always looking at the AO final score during the break, it distracted me and I lost control of my shots and made slight mistakes, at the same time Ross got better. And in the third set, Ross even led two breaks 4-1. I didn't want to lose this match under any circumstances, I collected myself and equalized to 4:4, but lost my serve again. Ross served at 5:4 to win the match, and I was able to break back at 15:40. I got my serve and broke to win the match. Sorry again for the 5 net rollers from me! It was sunny but a bit windy weather. Train regularly and hard and your game will improve because you have really hard shots that need more practice. It was a fair game. Good luck with your matches Alain."  -- Mansoor
