Player Comments:

  • "It was a good match today with Daniel. I started off quite strongly and got into a good lead, never looking back and won it 6-1. In the second set, Daniel upped his game a little and I began to lose a bit of confidence giving Daniel a 3-1 lead. A bit of a sea-saw set ensued as I then clawed my way back to 3-3 only for Daniel to win the next 2 games to go 5-3. I then won the next 3 games to go 6-5 up before Daniel forced a tie-break by winning the twelfth game. Daniel played well in the tie-break and won it 7-4, similar to our previous match. In the final set, I raised my game again and felt more solid from the baseline, going for more passes when Daniel ventured to the net. There were some really good rallies and great gets from both of us "  -- Paul

  • "Took me time to work out. Mo came with strategy to just lob every ball ! And also catch me at time with Nick Kygrios style underarm serve. In the end the club gate had to close at 2200. Very laboured game. But glad we played it .TBC tbc. Multiple let cords from Ogba but no apologies and an interesting demeanour. But its not against the rules so what goes. Look forward to completion"  -- Ogba

Player Comments:

  • "After the match against Ben the week before last, I rested all week except for one fitness session. I wanted to reset myself physically and mentally. I hadn't thought about tennis at all. Not having touched the tennis racket I struggled in the first set, nothing worked, too many slight mistakes and it was 5-0 to Mo, I managed to avoid a leash and won my first serve game and Mo once that decrease serve. Mo won the first set 6:2. Now I became more confident and knew how Mo plays, Mo had the chance to win the match at 6:5, but I didn't give up and broke and forced him into a tiebreak. Since I was in the same situation as in the match against Ben and was a set behind and in the tiebreak, I felt more secure this time and won the tiebreak "  -- Mansoor

Player Comments:

  • "This was a big game for both of as we searched for our first win of the campaign. I got the early break and had chances to cement it but Mo levelled at 3-3. The 7th game saw Mo make a few errors and from that moment on he couldn’t build any momentum. Thankfully I was able to seize the advantage and win games quickly. Amazingly I won 9 straight games. I enjoyed the Artificial Grass which didn’t really suit Mo’s game. Thanks for hosting Mo look forward to playing again soon."  -- Daniel
Reveal CommentPaul Bundock Steel bt Mo Noor (May 2) 6-4, 2-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was a tough match against Mo today. We were level-pegging during the first set at 2 all, 3 all and 4 all. I won my serve to go 5-4 up and then managed to break Mo's serve to take the first set. In the second set Mo played some incredible lobs and under the lights, it was hard to sight the ball properly causing me to make some mistakes overhead. This was a good ploy for Mo and he took the second set 6-2. In the final set I was determined to cut out the long rallies and concentrate on my technique and this helped my cause but Mo I think had less puff by then which helped me to win the set and the match. Thank you for the game Mo and for your honesty in the line calls."  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "Always good to see Dan but any pleasantries were soon forgotten as I came straight out of the blocks without giving Dan any chances or opportunities to get into the match and to be fair 6-0 wasn’t a harsh scoreline. Second set the scoreline continued in a similar vein but things were much more competitive now, Dan had a break point when I served at 4-0 which I saved but it wasn’t until he faced a match point at 0-5 that he really came alive, eventually holding his serve before breaking me with some fantastic shots before finally succumbing on his own serve. Thanks for the game mate and good luck in your final two matches."  -- Ian

  • "Great match Mansoor, the first set was close but I got the luck needed to break and hold serve to win 6-3, second set tie break Mansoor was leading 5-0 before letting it slip, should’ve gone to a third but wasn’t meant to be. Good luck mate."  -- Ben

Player Comments:

  • "This was the match I was looking forward to the most. Last few rounds Ian defeated me in very trying situations. I could not adjust to the conditions at all! This time perfect sunshine and cool breeze. I was solid all round and dealt Ian a harsh tennis lesson today. Most of Ian's games was a result of lousy play from me. Much as Ian played today, I was always on top. Ian would always target my back hand. But it was something I have been working on so having winners with my backhand today was very pleasing for me especially against Ian. I told Ian I would play him in his favourite carpet next time :) But today was my day :)"  -- Ogba

  • "Good to meet and play Ben for the first time for what turned out to be a brutal game! He had me struggling to hold serve at 3-3 but i survived and then turned the tables to sneak the first set but after that it became a real uphill battle, Ben fully deserved to take the 2nd set with two breaks to one and after breaking me first game 3rd set i sensed trouble but i got the break straight back plus a further one to lead 4-1, with Ben serving at 2-5 15-40 i felt i needed to finish it but his good net play denied me and when he broke back and held to make it 5-5 i could feel the match slipping away...a gutsy hold from me meant Ben had to hold serve but unfortunately he chucked in a couple of doubles which was a shame. Excellent match tho Ben."  -- Ian

  • "Thank you Paul for the quick confirmation and for letting me play in your club. The weather conditions were not optimal, sunny but very strong and crazy side wind. In the first set I broke Paul when the score was 2:2, but lost my serve right away. I kept going, broke again to make it 4:3, got my serve through and broke again and won the first set 6:3. Now I had adjusted to the wind and Paul's game and won the second set 6:2 Good luck with your games Paul."  -- Mansoor

  • "Thanks for the quick confirmation Daniel. The match lasted about an hour. In the first set I was able to break Daniel early and won him 6:3. In the second set I was able to adjust to Daniel's game better, my serve became more secure, I increased the pressure and won 6:1. There were some good ball changes and shots. Good luck in your matches Daniel."  -- Mansoor

  • "Another fantastic match with Daniel. Last round he got the bagel and after my epic match with Ben yesterday. I was brimming with confidence. I watched few video clips of my match with Ben in slow motion as I recorded it and realised what I did wrong in volleys and second serves. I was determined to put things right and improve a notch! And I thought I did today. I came out the blocks like my match with Ben. I opted Serve and Volley and always on the front foot. Credit to Daniel, he tried to stay strong and pushed me. Perhaps knowing I was tired after yesterday match with Ben. 2nd set he led 3-1, 4-2 & 7-5 but each time I upped my level; used my last gasp energy to win the match. All the best Daniel in rest of your matches !"  -- Ogba

  • "Classic game of tennis between coach and student. Ogba started quickly going a set and a break up before I managed to work my way back into the 2nd set taking it 6-3. The final set was an epic with a tie break to finish, could’ve gone either way!"  -- Ben

Player Comments:

  • " Like my first match in this round I raced to a comfortable lead 1st set. 4-0 it was this time. But credit to Paul he came out fighting after a sluggish start and me taking full advantage. In the end I held on to win 6-3. 2nd set Paul had a good start. He took his serve and I took mine. Then Paul took his again to make it 2-1 and then Paul showed persistence and grit, returning everything I served in the fourth game! I was getting really frustrated with so many deuces 10 to 15! Paul was determined to break me to make it 3-1! But I battled to eventually make it 2-2. Then we continued tailing each other. But I got the decisive break and kept my nerves to win 6-3. Really enjoyable match!. Sunshining :) all the best in your other matches"  -- Ogba

Player Comments:

  • "What a match to open the round! Really high quality! I had played Mansoor in a friendly before today;ended one set all. Today, I won the toss and opted to serve. Soon I took the 1st game I brewed with confidence and raced away to a 5-0 lead! Mansoor was able to avoid the bagel on his serve but I made sure of the set on my serve. 2nd set, Mansoor upped his game. He led 2-0, but I fought back to lead 5-4. But a tame forehand on my serve at 40-30 cost me! Mansoor from there went on to win 7-5 the set. 3rd set was all about serves. However I managed to get the decisive break and never lost faith. Mansoor pushed many times to break me but I stood firm and took the 3rd and final set 6-3. Beautiful groundstrokes all round. :)"  -- Ogba

I got ahead early in the 2nd but there were some great rallies & close games but I managed to win 6 - 2. Tim wasn't quite at his best & am sure will get revenge next time. • "Lovely to play Maddie again. 1st set was won by me quite convincingly 6 - 2even though I managed to lose a service game. 2nd set was a different story as Maddie broke instantly twice & raced into a 3 - 0 early lead & extended it to 5 - 2 with some very good winners. Unfortunately for Maddie I found my game again & won 5 straight games to win 7 - 5 but it could have gone either way. A good chat afterwards too. Hope you do well in your remaining matches. • "Hi, it was really nice to meet and play with Andrew again, as both of us had laid off playing in the league for some months. Andrew served like a train throughout, and I blocked my returns throughout ! I benefitted from Andrew's experimentation with his powerful forehand, which came unstuck at times towards the end of the match. A good standard of tennis throughout though from both of us. As always, the match was played in a great spirit. Best wishes for your future matches, Andrew !"  -- Tim

Ian came out of the blocks firing in the 2nd set leading 3:- 0 & 5 - 2 & he should have won the set but I managed to win 5 games on the spin to win 7 - 5. Ian served really well & we had some great rallies. Great to see you again Ian & keep plugging away. Those victories will come "  -- John

I held my serve to take the 1st set. I took an early lead in the 2ns set & got to 5 - 2 & forty love but Andrew fought brilliantly to win the the game & did exactly the same on his own serve to force me to hold out which I managed to do. Player Comments:

  • "Good to see Ian again. The first set Ian was erratic, having not played for a while, but got into his game near the end of the 1st set, and took the first 2 games of the 2nd. I decided to change my strategy at that point, as up 'til then I had just been keeping the rally going. I decided to drive hard onto the backhand and go in to volley. That worked well - I only missed 3 volleys- so I was able to recover, put Ian under pressure, and take the set 6-2. Best of luck in the rest of your matches Ian, and I'll be in touch soon."  -- Maddie

  • "Andrew & I usually have a much closer game, but Andrew hasn't played singles since Nov., and found, like I did in my first LTL singles for a while, that his consistency was out the window! He was certainly getting into his stride in the 2nd set, when an unfortunate turn caused him to twist his knee awkwardly causing some pain, so I always say it's best to stop immediately. Andrew offered a w/o, but I'd much rather continue this match in a couple of weeks or so, when Andrew's fully recovered. Look forward to seeing you then, Andrew. All the best for a quick recovery.
