Player Comments:

  • "I wonder what would have happened if we had played where we had originally planned? Instead of playing on a comfortable indoor court, we found ourselves playing outdoors in some gusty wind and pouring rain, with floodlights working at only one end of the court! Despite it all, we both battled on, with Kevin's slice proving particularly difficult in the conditions, and some lovely play from Kevin at net in terms of stretch volleys on a number of occasions, with Kevin difficult to get past. I managed to capture crucial breaks at the end of each set to take them both, managing to utilise all areas of the court on a match point to clinch it, in a match of fine margins, with breaks aplenty. Till next time Kevin, in better weather and light!"  -- Deji
Reveal CommentNick Acton bt Kevin Lomas (Sep 27) 5-7, 6-4, [10-5]

Player Comments:

  • "Really enjoyed this match with Kevin. The first game had a lot of deuce points and the rest of the match was similar with there never being more than 1 break in it. Kevin managed to take the tight first set with a timely break at 6-5. I managed to break early in the second and just about held on for the set. With time running out we played a 10 point tie breaker which I managed to come out on top on. Thanks for the game Kevin. Till next time :o)"  -- Nick

Player Comments:

  • "It was lovely to get the opportunity to play Bob again and the match didn't disappoint. The first set was neck and neck with a very crucial game on my serve at the score 1-1.We had around 12 deuces with neither of us budging so it was a relief when I won it to lead 2-1.Most games in this set were unusual as when either of us were 40 - 0 up in a game it generally ended on a duece somehow.I just about sneaked this set but there was nothing in it and could have gone either way.The second set I managed to get an early break and in my head knew that I needed to avoid a 3rd set as I feel I would have have lost if it had gone that way. I saw it out just! Thanks for the match as always bob and great to catch up with you. Hopefully see you next round."  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt Nick Acton (Sep 21) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Scoreline doesn't reflect at all how tough and close match this was. Every single game went to deuce bar a couple, and I just found myself on the winning side in most of them. Nick is a great player, just getting back to playing tennis after a few years break and the one to watch in this league. Thanks Nick. Great match. Play soon"  -- Pavel
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt Bob Sneesby (Sep 19) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A very very enjoyable match, though the weather wasn't on our side today. Bob is one hell of a player, tough, and makes no unforced errors. Annoyingly good!!! And those drop shots, I have one thing or two to learn from Bob. Thank you again and hope we get to play again soon as we both enjoy singles."  -- Pavel
Bob Sneesby bt Nick Acton (Sep 17) 7-6 (7-0), 7-5
Reveal CommentBob Sneesby bt Deji Jaiyesimi (Sep 12) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Another enjoyable match with Deji. Very similar to the last one we played, with Deji’s fitness and stamina an encouragement for me to try and shorten the points! I didn’t always succeed, and we had several long rallies with a particularly tough game on my serve mid-way through the second set with multiple deuces, which I eventually edged. A closer contest than the score suggests. Well played Deji, good luck with your remaining matches, and look forward to playing again."  -- Bob
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt Kevin Lomas (Sep 10) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "It was lovely to play Kevin after almost many many months, always a great match with his annoyingly good backhand slice. It was off to a unlucky start for Kevin as he injured his eyebrow area during warm up, bless! After I administered a plaster (all I am capable off), Kevin carried on - a true fighter. And Kevin started well, broke my very first service game but I regained control of my game and won the next 4 games. Kevin played well throughout and I don't think the scoreline is just. As I said his annoyingly good backhand slice made me dig deep. Thank you Kevin. Hope your injury is not too bad and your lock is fixed :) Play soon! "  -- Pavel

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentDeji Jaiyesimi bt Toby Sweeney (Sep 4) 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Very even, up and down, and physical match, lasting about three hours! Managed to save set points in set one at 6-5 after Toby recovered from a slow start to the match to play some good tennis. I took the set to a tiebreak and managed to edge that. Toby came through in set 2 with some good consistent play, and then some cramping on my part affected me and the match, with a poor end to the 2nd set and poor start to the 3rd. I managed to recover enough to take the third set. Could have gone either way. Well played Toby and all the best with your remaining matches!"  -- Deji
Reveal CommentDeji Jaiyesimi bt Nick Acton (Sep 3) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Match played in lovely conditions and with a few competitive rallies ensuring the first set was tight, but in the second set I managed to sat ahead and close out the match after a double break. Thanks for the game Nick and all the best in your future matches :)"  -- Deji

Reveal CommentDavid Mincer bt Steve Close (Sep 13) 7-6 (7-5), 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Scores are bizarre really. 1st set was brutal, really competitive. Both of us were blowing hard. Steve's serve was firing and it was really hard to lay a glove on him. Tie break could have gone either way. I think we both put so much in to it that the loser of it was always going to struggle to come back and so it proved. Steve's intensity dropped ever so slightly in the 2nd set and this proved enough to see me home. Can't wait for the re-match, Cheers Steve"  -- David

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentChristopher Perry bt David Mincer (Sep 9) 6-2, 0-6, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "An epic game of shifting momentum. A very long opening game set the scene. My forehand was working today enabling me to win some crucial points in the first set. David found the response to my forehand in the second set and absolutely crushed me 6-0. The 3rd set was back and forth with the lead switching a few times. I managed to save 3 match points at 5-4 down to bring things level. I failed to convert my first match point and thought we'd head to a tie break but a rare miss from David saw me steal the match on my second match point. It's often said but this one really could have gone either way! "  -- Christopher

Player Comments:

  • "Leslie took charge of the first set with his heavy forehand dictating play which forced many errors from myself. However i managed to find some rhythm utilizing drop shots and slices, albeit with a bit of luck with my opponent who double faulted on crucial points in the 2nd and 3rd set. Loads of deuces throughout the game which tested both our fitness levels. Hope to play again soon mate, thanks for the game. "  -- NJ

Player Comments:

Player Comments:

  • "Very good match that swung with momentum to me and Ashley. Moved inside after a very wet start. After a close first set, Ashley won 6 straight games to win the second. Third set was a good battle. Ashley makes you work hard and gets lots of balls back into play. Great game Ashley and good luck with the rest of your matches"  -- Joe

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentLeslie Okomi bt Joe Wells (Sep 21) 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "The was by far one of the best and competitive matches I've played in this league. It was played in a friendly and respectful atmosphere. I got an early break in the first set but Joe broke back almost immediately then there was a succession of breaks on each serve till he got a break and served for the set. The points were close a few deuces here and there. I got an early break in the second set and it went similar to the first set where Joe broke back but I managed to break again and served it out. The final set had a couple of breaks with Joe serving for the match but I scrambled it back and took it to a tie break which he had a quick start winning the first 3 points till I clawed it back and won it. Thanks Joe really enjoyable. "  -- Leslie
