Player Comments:

  • "Hats off to Chris agreeing to play at 8:30 on Sunday after attending a party the night before. First set went by rather quickly, and Chris stepped up his game significantly in the second, hitting some pretty impressive winners. Consistency is what made the difference today, nice match, Chris, thank you."  -- Pavel
Reveal CommentBob Sneesby bt Deji Jaiyesimi (Mar 5) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable match played in windy conditions. Lots of breaks of serve and running about! Deji played some deft drop shots to test old legs! At 4-3 in the second the thought of a third inspired me to close it out! Many thanks Deji, always a pleasure to play you. Good luck with the rest of your games. "  -- Bob
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt Deji Jaiyesimi (Feb 27) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "The scoreline not reflective of the match and unkind to Deji, who played really well. Great match with amazing pace and long rallies. The only difference today was that I held my serve throughout - rather unusual. Thanks Deji, really enjoyed the match"  -- Pavel
Reveal CommentJames McGaughey bt Andrew De Csillery (Feb 22) 1-6, 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Very enjoyable match, competitive throughout with both of us playing well, and I had to really dig in in the third to hold Andrew off. Just scraped home before the lights turned off."  -- James

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentJames McGaughey bt Bob Sneesby (Feb 11) 3-6, 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A marathon, we played for a full three hours; thankfully the lovely windless sunny day and good quality match made it a pleasure. It was, I suppose, a game of two halves. Bob all but won it, but at 2-5 down in the second set I managed to reduce my error count and played some good games to get out of jail. It continued to be tight after the turnaround, with a very long game at 6-5 and more multiple deuce games early in the third. Our similar tactical games made it hard work to win points. In the end, perhaps fewer years in my legs helped, but Bob is apparently a man of steel. "  -- James
Reveal CommentChristopher Perry bt Richard Sloggett (Feb 9) 7-6 (7-3), 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Great game with very, very long rallies as we both tried to avoid errors. Could have gone either way."  -- Christopher
Reveal CommentBob Sneesby bt Andrew De Csillery (Feb 6) 4-6, 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A match played in cold, windy, showery conditions! Andrew edged the first set but I managed to come back in the second and third - unfortunately in part due to Andrew suffering an injury midway through the second set and then aggravating it further midway through the third. I hope you recover quickly Andrew and look forward to playing again soon. Best wishes for the remainder of the round. "  -- Bob
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt Andrew De Csillery (Feb 5) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "First 3 games played on slippy hard court and although I was 2:1 up, I wasnt enjoying it. Andrew was very kind and agreed to swap hard court for clay and we both played really nice tennis. At 3:3, it was all up for grabs and if it wasn't for Andrew's unusual unforced errors, I thought we were heading for a tie break. At 6:3 and 2:0, we had to go back to the hard court and naturally the rallies got shorter. I served well I think and that made the difference. Until next time Andrew, and it's either clay or a dry hard court."  -- Pavel
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt James McGaughey (Jan 30) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "So nice to see James back on the court, as we all know he is a great player. And he pushed me to the limits today. I wont the first set quite comfortably and was up 4:1 in the second but that's when James came back fighting and in style. He was the better player in the second half of the second set and I only just took with a bit of luck. Thank you James. Really great to see you back on the court!"  -- Pavel
Reveal CommentDeji Jaiyesimi bt Christopher Perry (Jan 29) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Good to get this played early. First set filled with breaks of serve before I managed to hold and then come back from 40-0 down to break in the ninth game of the first set. Second set I got out to a 5-0 lead, before being pegged back by Chris to 5-3 with some solid and consistent play, including a point where Chris showed great defensive skills to win his first game of the second set, but I fortunately managed to close out the match with some good serving and a more aggressive approach in the final game. Thanks Chris. Enjoyed the much needed hit and workout!"  -- Deji
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt Bob Sneesby (Jan 29) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Scoreline a bit unfair on Bob as he played really well and hit some nice winners. Thanks Bob and best of luck for your remaining matches."  -- Pavel

Player Comments:

  • "That was a really hard fought match. We both had periods where it seemed as though we’d found a way to win only for the pattern and momentum to swing back the other way. The result was we both tried a variety of different approaches to try and gain the upper hand. I took the first set but then NJ came back strong in the second set as my consistency wavered. The final set saw a number of long deuce games with NJ battling well to stay in the set as I served for it twice. The tie break was equally hard fought with there never being more than a couple of points in it. I was fortunate to overcome the first match point and won it at my first opportunity. Thanks for the game NJ, really enjoyed it!"  -- Nick

Player Comments:

  • "Gruelling 1st set with plenty of back and forth rallies. I managed to break midway in the 2nd set against Zac's efficient net play. Thanks for the game!"  -- NJ
Reveal CommentEren Ozkan bt David Mincer (Mar 4) 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "What a great match this was... David dominated the 1st set with great winning shots both forehand and backhand... I just couldn't force any errors. Again, as i did with Nick, I had to dig really deep and be more consistent to get the wins in the 2nd and 3rd set. Score line does not reflect the long rallies we've had and how it could of gone either way 2nd and 3rd set. Cheers for the match David, see you soon mate. "  -- Eren
Reveal CommentEren Ozkan bt Nick Acton (Mar 3) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "What a match this was... Nick made it out like he hasn't played in months but on court this was not true. He went 4-0 up in the 1st set, very easily. I had to dig really deep and keep my consistency to start winning the games back, luckily found the right gear to claw it all back to then win the set... which was not easy at all!! 2nd set, I had to make sure not to be down at the start and start winning the games early but Nick makes you work really hard for every point.. like REALLY bloody hard... great seeing you again Nick... Until next time. "  -- Eren

Reveal CommentEren Ozkan bt Ashley Guinn (Feb 16) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable match... Ashley chases every ball down and doesn't give up. I was just more consistent and played more variety shots to catch him out. At least we didnt attend to play this one outside, in this very windy weather!"  -- Eren
Reveal CommentEren Ozkan bt Zac Sargusingh (Feb 15) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "The 1st set was played in the worst conditions I've ever played (and I think Zac agrees)... It was cold, rainy, windy and to top it all off, only one side of the court was flood lit (This was at David Lloyds!!!), so thank you Zac for adapting and getting the 1st set finished in these conditions. Despite this, we've had some good rallies in the 1st set, lot of Deuces but I managed to win the crucial points. 2nd set was played inside, in the warmth with lots of light but Carpet, the balls didn't bounce as much as the Clay, so I had an advantage here as my home club. Thanks for the enjoyable match Zac and the Chat. "  -- Eren
Reveal CommentDavid Mincer bt Claire Morrison (Feb 13) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "1st time playing Claire on a grey and windy morning in Hitchin. What a pleasure it was :) Didn't start that way. Not sure I won a point for the 1st two games!!! Some punishing but really enjoyable rallies throughout............ Lets be honest though, Claire was carrying an injury, we were touch and go to even play. This clearly troubled Claire towards the end of the 2nd set. Can't wait for you to get yourself fit Claire so we can rematch. I have no doubt that assuming you're injury free................I will get an absolute runaround :) Best of luck and hope your heel clears up soon"  -- David
Reveal CommentClaire Morrison bt Zac Sargusingh (Feb 12) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Thank you Zac for travelling to Hitchin. It was a blustery start to the match which made our ground strokes tricky to centre. Zac is a consistent player with some really nice shots and chases every ball down. I was lucky to manage some acute angles on some volleys and not be too impeded my recent injury. Thankyou Zac and good luck with your other matches!"  -- Claire
Reveal CommentDavid Mincer bt Ashley Guinn (Feb 12) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Not played Ashley for several years (what am I talking about!!! not played anyone for several years) Really enjoyable as always, score flattered me no doubt. Ashley has a really unique forehand that can be unplayable at times Always a pleasure, best of luck for future matches Ashley Until next time"  -- David
Reveal CommentEren Ozkan bt Claire Morrison (Feb 10) 6-1, 3-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Claire is a better player by far (as the second set suggests)… However, I've caught her when she has Achilles tendon injury and this just gave me the advantage. I cruelly played on it and made her run a bit more than usual, which then accumulated errors from her side. Nevertheless, this was a great match with lots of Deuces, where Claire kept pushing me to the limits. Well played Claire (never an easy match against you), looking forward to having some hits soon. "  -- Eren
Reveal CommentZac Sargusingh bt Ashley Guinn (Feb 6) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Blustery conditions made for some unpredictable tennis. The first set was closer than the score suggests with many games going to deuce, in the second Ashley mounted a spirited comeback and I was fortunate to break at the right time so see the match out. Thanks for the game Ashley. - Zac "  -- Zac

Player Comments:

  • " I remembered that I had played Jonathan in the past but could not remember his game. The first couple of games went to serve till I managed to break in the 8 game and then served the first set out. I thought it was going to be smooth sailing after getting the early break but Jonathan had other ideas. The second game of the second set had some many deuces that I lost count, I reckon that game must have gone on for over 10 mins, he broke back and won the next 2 games to go 4-1 up. My serve lost its edge and I had to dig deep to ensure I held serve and managed to claw my way back to 5-5. There were some nice rallies at 5 all before getting the break and I served it out, with 2 aces. Lovely match Jonathan look forward to playing again. "  -- Leslie
Reveal CommentLeslie Okomi bt Tim Kidd (Mar 18) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Having played Tim loads of times I knew what to expect, but boy did he surprise me. Tim made me work really hard for this win, he served pretty well aced me quite a few times and there were some deuces and breaks of serves. I managed to hold my nerves and won the first set. We started the second set as we ended the first loads of rallies but I managed to win some of the crucial points and got a break of serve which I held on to win the match. Well done Tim for a good match. "  -- Leslie
