Player Comments:

  • "It was great to get our match played at venue 360 in Luton and the match did not disappoint. Steve raced into a 0-3 lead adjusting better to the sunny conditions and low airplanes flying over the court. I was worried it was going to be a whitewash but I managed to claw back to lead 5-3 for yet another twist with Steve leading 5-6. The tie break was anyone's with long rallys inbetween some great net play bit I just nicked it to win the set. The 2nd set played out exactly the same with backwards and forwards each way with both of us making errors inbetween long rallies. It was a relief when I won the match as even when I was leading I never felt comfortable which is a credit to Steve! Looking forward to our next battle!"  -- Kevin

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks Laurent - great to play at a new venue, especially in the heat The wind was a little interfering, but overall a fun match Both sets relatively close at times, which made some of the points quite tense All the best in remaining matches Cheers, M"  -- Max
Reveal CommentMax Robinson bt James Duncan (May 3) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the match - a good hit with some fun rallies. An unconventional multi surface encounter, which had a fairly tight first set on the clay. Hard court brought some stronger service holds from each of us, albeit featuring too many double faults from yours truly… Thanks again - look forward to the next time "  -- Max
Reveal CommentMax Robinson bt Kevin Lomas (May 2) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great match Kev. Many tricky rallies throughout - well enjoyed (from both of us fair to say). 1st set: Back and forth, with each of us holding first couple of service games. I found a break which remained so for the rest of the set - albeit with several deuce games. 2nd set: You broke my serve immediately and deservedly held a lead of 4-2, on serve. I found a break after a long game on your service & held on to close out a good match. I look forward to next time Cheers "  -- Max

Player Comments:

  • "Really good match, Pavel First time back in leagues in about a year - great to get back in the mix. Some lack of match practice as well as being out rallied costed me, but you deservedly came through in 2 tight sets. Many thanks and look forward to next time (on hard court!) "  -- Max
Reveal CommentKevin Lomas bt James Duncan (Apr 28) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I was nice to play a player I haven't played before and before the match James admitted he was a bit rusty as he hadn't played a lot recently. I myself have had a few months out so we were in the same boat. The 1st set I was leading 2-0 for then James to break me back and hold serve to make it 2-2. I found it hard to return his kick serve as not only was it placed perfectly it was hit with some venom. I managed to take the set 6-3 but it was very close. The 2nd set I was 4-0 up for James to then hit back to make it 4-2 with some beautiful shots down the lines. The light was fading on court but we both decided to continue and I just managed to sneak the set 6-3. Thanks for the match mate it was highly enjoyable and lovely to meet you. "  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentPavel Novotny bt Kevin Lomas (Apr 23) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely, competitive tennis as always. Kevin had a fantastic start, 3:1 up in no time but then I collected myself and won the next 5 games to take the opener. Second set, break after break start, but at 2:2, I kept my serve and eventually took a 5:2 lead. Kev fought till the end, great tennis, some nice winners. Thanks Kev, until next time."  -- Pavel
Reveal CommentKevin Lomas bt John McDonough (Apr 21) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Firstly the score line does not reflect the match. The first set was very close with John breaking me on my first service game and the 1st set poised at 2-2 with a number of duece's which I eventually managed to win to lead 3-2. The wind played a big part in the first set with both of us struggling to find consistency in our game. I managed to see out the set 6-2 but there was nothing in it and it could have swung either way. As the sun set the court lights which we thought would come on didn't and after a few well fought games and some eye testers I just managed to sneak the 2nd set with the score line not reflecting how well John played. Good luck with your remaining matches and look forward to playing you again soon. "  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentKevin Lomas bt Laurent Cornette (Apr 15) 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "Beautiful day for tennis at harpenden and lovely to play tennis again in the sunshine. The first set was very up and down from both of us with some errors sandwiched inbetween some great tennis. We were both struggling for consistency and I just managed to get ahead to take the set 6-4. The second set I raced into a 4-0 lead with the best tennis I've played in a while for then Laurent to come storming back with some beautiful shots and net play to make it 5-4. We then changed court into the bubble which felt like 10 degrees hotter where Laurent won the 2nd set and after a topsy-turvy 3rd set was finally decided on a tie break which could have gone either way! Thanks for the match mate look forward to our next one!"  -- Kevin

Player Comments:

  • "Having played Ashley a couple of times I knew what to expect that he would run down everything so I had to be patient and reduce the unforced errors. The first set went according to plan as got a couple of breaks. Second set however, did not go to plan as there were quite a few breaks of serve from both of us. He played the tie break a lot better than myself. In the third and final set I had to go back to the game plan for the first set of being patient and working the angles, there were some good rallies and cross court passes. This was a brutal encounter for both players as we were both spent by the end of the match. Well done Ashley for a good match and thanks for coming down. "  -- Leslie

Player Comments:

  • "There were a few shifts in momentum through the match as we tried to suss each other out. Leslie has a tricky serve and also hit some brilliant forehand winners that were hard to keep up with. I couldn't find much rhythm in the first set and Leslie wrapped it up pretty quickly. Some errors came into Leslie's play during the second set, and I was able keep my defence and break. In the third set Leslie broke early on, but I was able to maintain some good consistency to pull back and get the win. Thanks for the game!"  -- Zaichen
