Player Comments:

  • "It was great to meet Raf who kindly agreed to make the journey. Conditions were blustery and we both struggled to anticipate where the ball would land. In the first I broke late on and managed to hold serve. The second set passed in a blur as Raf just didn't make a mistake volleying all attempted passing shots. The storm over I managed to break early to hold on in the third set. Thanks for an enjoyable game Raf."  -- Zac

Player Comments:

  • "I enjoyed meeting Raphael and we had a nice game in good conditions. He is passionate about tennis and has developed a great game in a short space of time. We had good rallies but in the end was just down to consistency on key points. I am sure I'll see Raphael in future leagues." -- Adam

Player Comments:

  • "A warm, calm evening at Harpenden made the conditions perfect which really helped my game, especially my volleying. The first set was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests with some extremely long rallies (in fact too long for me). The second set was somewhat quicker as I volleyed more and managed to close out the match by playing more aggresive tennis. Thanks Richard for an enjoyable match and all the best with your remaining fixtures."  -- Steve
Reveal CommentAdam Green bt Steve Close (Sep 4) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A great battle with a lot of long rallies. We were both cagey at times not wanting to make an error and thus needed our water breaks between games as a result. Steve hit lovely drop shots and winners and served well throughout. There were only a few points between us in the end. I think we were both relieved to avoid a third set. Look forward to playing again in future leagues and socially. "  -- Adam

Player Comments:

  • "Good game with Rupert in David Lloyds Hatfield; we played indoors on a carpeted surface because of the prospect of rain. The level of the game got higher the more we played."  -- Raphael

Player Comments:

  • "First set had some really good rallies and drop shots, was really tricky since I hadn't played on clay for over 3 years so took some getting used to sliding but once I did I was able to counter the drop shots and managed to close the set out. Thomas started the second set well hold and then getting a break of serve. He did push me in the second set as there were a couple of break of serve till I got the vital break then held on to love to win the match. Thanks for a good game. "  -- Leslie

Reveal CommentAlex Makarov bt Taiwo Azeez (Oct 2) 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A match which could have easily gone into a third set with an unpredictable outcome as the second set went head to head. In the second set we both played a defensive gave which resulted in several very long rallies, which made match very enjoyable. Taiwo demonstrates great stamina and fitness in these long-lasting rallies. Had the game went into the third set, the match result could have been different. "  -- Alex
Reveal CommentLeslie Okomi bt James Aviles (Sep 29) 7-5, 4-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "I knew to expect a though match since James was top in the group and I wasn't disappointed, a couple of break of serve in the first set but I managed to wrap the first set up, after some many deuces. I had a good start in the second breaking James in the first game but he rallied back and took it to the final and third set. I think we both started the third set on our knees as we had done a lot of running and battles in the first two sets. I managed to dig deep and change my tactics slightly to deal with his tricky slices and this paid off in the final set as I got an early break and managed to consolidate it and held my serves even though her pushed me far in. This match was thoroughly enjoyed now I know my body would ache later on."  -- Leslie
Reveal CommentLeslie Okomi bt Tim Kidd (Sep 22) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I started very well getting a break of serve from the get go. The scores of the match does not reflect how it went as the margins were very tiny. I won most of the vital points which made the difference. Tim was serving really well, some of his kick serve unnerved me at times, but I was able to capitalise on some good returns and his weakness. He pushed me even more in the second set and and we had some good rallies but I managed to get a break early on which he got back, but I held firm and steadied the ship and broke back then held. Was a lovely match, enjoyed it. I had a bad fall in the second set but managed to continue. Thanks Tim all the best with the rest of you're matches. "  -- Leslie

We had a few good rallies, I was quite satisfied with my level of play. Set 2 unremarkable, bur overall pretty close result with two tie-breaks. Thanks Alex and good tennis in the future.
