Collapse AllMid-Kent Singles - Round 2 | Thursday 23 August 2018 to Wednesday 17 October 2018 (Midpoint: Wednesday 19 September 2018)

Thanks to everyone who took part in only the second round of the Tonbridge league. There was a good turnout on the courts with more than two thirds of matches played and some tight tussles described in the many commentaries. We'd love to see the league grow when we return in 2019, so do help spread the word if you can. Until next time!

Group Summary:

George stole the show on his debut, recording six stunning wins and bonus points to become the undisputed new champ - well played. Mark and Philip both got four wins on the board to put themselves in the hunt for the silver. Crucially Mark also picked up a point from his unfinished match with William to edge into the runner up spot. Well played all.

Player Comments:

  • "Finally managing to get on court after a number of failed attempts, it was great to meet and play Mark, although both of us had arrived after large Sunday roasts. Despite carrying the extra weight, the tennis was strong, with me winning out on the serves and Mark taking the forehand winners. The score did not reflect the closeness of the match. Looking forward to playing again."  -- George

Player Comments:

  • "Close match and ended 2-1 to me in the third set but run out of time and next court booking was waiting. First set went quickly but second set was very competitive with some great tennis and rallies and a few aces from Will. Hope to complete by the 17th but now struggling with a back injury! Mark"  -- Mark

  • "Very close match. There were some long rallies and good points. We started shortly after I had played Rosie - but felt I played better in this one. Third set was much closer than the score would suggest. "  -- William

Player Comments:

  • "Dry but cold evening under the flood lights and on a hard court. Richard and enjoyed some good base line rallies and some attacking net play. Close games in the beginning of each set but the games went quicker towards the end of each set. Both of us served well with a few double faults. I enjoyed our game and we hope to play in the next league and clay being our choice of surface next time. Good hour of tennis on both sides of the net."  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "Played over two days, this was quite the tussle, both on the court and, on the first day, with the light and rain. Although neither player served well, the tennis was compelling and, late on Thursday night, very difficult with a lot of guesswork in action in the dying light. "  -- George
