Player Comments:

  • "On the 8th may 2017 The Battle of Birmingham Rd began. Two Giants of the Tennis world collided for a 2 hours and 40 minute marathon at Walsall Tennis Club. It was an extravaganza of thunderous serves, super strong volleying, awesome baseline power, amazing top spin lobs, Andy Murray like defences, flying rackets, broken rackets and a few dodgy net cords! It was an epic encounter full of twists and turns between tennis's rising star(Webb) and the old champion(Store). First blood went to Webb 6-4 with most games going to deuce and great shot making from both sides. The second was even closer and had to be settled by tie breaker finishing 7-6(7-5)Store. The decider went deservedly to the Wiley old veteran Store 7-5 Well done mate great match"  -- Ian

  • "A tough match today, by far the most mentally challenging match for me. First set Paul just completely outplayed me and I made too many unforced errors. Managed to regroup 2nd and 3rd set but it wasnt easy. Good luck Paul in your next match"  -- Shaun

Player Comments:

  • "My Toughest match to date, once again feel very fortunate to get through in two sets, think I would have struggled if there had been a third. The match was played at Walsall Tennis club where I'm a member, giving me the advantage over shaun who struggled to adapt to the surface. "  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "Great meeting Nathan hit it off with him straight away. First set score line didn't do Nathan justice as many games went to deuce and could of gone either way. It was a roasting hot Saturday afternoon at the Arboretum and I literally crawled over the the finishing line with another tight set going my way in the second. If it had gone to a third I'm sure Nathan's superior fitness would have paid off for him as it was my consistency just about got me through."  -- Ian

Player Comments:

  • "This has to be one of the most nerve-racking games that I have played. The first set was pretty evenly matched and a couple of errors from Cliff at the end allowed me to win the set. The second set went entirely Cliff's way and there wasn't much I could do to cope with it. Cliff's serves and forehands seemed to be finding their way quite nicely in the second set. Once my serves started finding their targets in the third, the set pretty much went my way. Certainly one of the most entertaining and tensest matches that I've played in a while! Thanks for the great game Cliff. "  -- Bobby

  • "This was an exciting match with both of us playing a competitive match against each other for the first time! First set took about 50 minutes and could have gone either way - absolute nail-biter. The second set was close too with games going to deuce and advantage many times. We had some great rallies with the longest rally being about 15 or 20 shots. Thanks for the great game Rado! Good luck with the rest of the matches. "  -- Bobby

Player Comments:

  • "We started the match at 12:30 PM at the Walsall Arboretum. First set was a close one but Roy's experience showed through and he won the set 7-5. The second set was not so close and it shows in the scoreline! We attempted a third set and it was 5-5 each after about 35 minutes into the set but we decided to call it a day since the match was already over anyway! Congrats to Roy! "  -- Bobby
