While the score line would suggest a straightforward match, it was anything but, as there were several deuce games and break points I had to claw myself out of. William started to find his range more in the 2nd set, and broke early to go 2-0 up. It could have been a double break if I didn’t somehow save break points! The set turned at that point as I started to focus more on being consistent, and not going for winners every time. We played a practice 3rd set that was definitely less nervy and more free flowing for both of us. All in all it was quite nice meeting William. I started a bit slow as I was getting accustomed to the courts, but started to find my range more, which ultimately helped me close out the 1st set. Unfortunately for me Declan started to find his as well as the 2nd set progressed. He was very good at keeping the ball in play, making me go for more pace on my shots, and drawing errors as a result. I was unable to hold serve in the latter stages as a result of this, but I managed to edge the game by making enough good returns on his serve. All in all a good, tough match!
