Great to continue to have 4 groups in the Westway Tennis league and to welcome back many returning players. Unfortunately a couple of the groups were a bit quiet this time around, so the number of matches played suffered We know how busy it was at this time of year but remember, if you're struggling to organise matches do let us know - we will help if we can. Having said that, some of the matches that were played in this group were great battles; no easy victories for any player this time around! Congratulations to Herve for continuing his great form, winning Group 1 for the second time in 3 rounds! Here's to the spring round...

Group Summary:

Congratulations to Herve for a clean sweep of Group 1 this round. He managed to play and win all his matches and get his bonus points, although the comments and scores suggest it wasn't all plain sailing - he was made to work for it and really think about his game tactics. Roddy was a deserving runner-up and his match with Herve looks to have been quite a battle, with Herve admitting it could have gone in either player's favour.

Player Comments:

  • "Good game vs Ignatio. Unforced errors made the difference but Ignatio made me work harder that what the score says. I quickly realised that I shouldn't let Ignatio be in control of the rallies and for that reason had to be focused right till the end. Enjoyable game."  -- Herve

Player Comments:

  • "Nice game with Manuel as I had to stay focused to counter his powerful forehand. The second set was quite disputed as one service game lasted around 10mn and had to come back from a break down!"  -- Herve

Player Comments:

  • "Good game with Marcus. The start of each sets were indecisive as we broke each other serve to be square. As some of Marcus shots can be quite unpredictable had to stay alert all the time, and a few more errors in some final moments helped me close the sets and match. We also had some nice runs from net to baseline. Great match."  -- Herve

Reveal CommentHerve Lagadec bt Roddy Ramsey (Dec 21) 3-6, 7-5, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Very long and exciting game with Rodd. Felt like I got away with it as never really had the control of the match. Rodd was very consistent in the first set. In the second, despite having having an early a lead at 5-2, Rodd came back well into the game. A few errors tipped the score and the set in my favor. In the third set, Rodd was again very solid and led 4-0. Then I somehow managed to get back on the scoreboard to finish again with some lucky points in the last minutes of the game. Great match! "  -- Herve

Group Summary:

Group 2 were quick off the mark in this round, with almost everyone getting their bonus points - well done! Congratulations to Vijay for winning and being the only unbeaten player this round, a solid return to the leagues for him after not playing in the last few rounds. Sebastien was a deserving runner-up with one unfinished match and two two-set wins. We know life can get busy and it can be difficult to fit matches in sometimes, so if you're having trouble scheduling matches, please do get in touch and we'll do what we can to help.

Group Summary:

Sadly there were very few matches played in this round for Group 3, no bonus points awarded and several players didn't get any matches in. However, the two matches that were played look like they were worthy battles - a great 3-setter between Simone and Andres, with Simone the eventual victor - but with one more match played and a crucial point for a set taken off Simone, Andres tops the group this time, well done to both of you. Let's get those new year resolutions in full swing for the next round and get lots more great matches played.

Group Summary:

Group 4 got off to a great start with a topsy-turvy short format battle between Danya and Carolena, which just shows the pressure of playing this format; both players took a set 4-1 and it looks like the second set was the crucial one, with Danya battling to a 5-3 win and then winning the third set to take victory. Danya also gained momentum in her match against Bruno, coming back from a narrow loss in a first set tie-break to take the second set 6-2. Unfortunately this match was unfinished at 2-2 in the third set, but that second set win was enough to secure Danya as winner of this group, with Bruno runner-up. Sadly these were the only matches played in the group during this round, but now's the time to sign up for the next round and see if we can improve this!
