Collapse AllWhitstable Singles - Round 38 | Thursday 1 August 2019 to Wednesday 25 September 2019 (Midpoint: Wednesday 28 August 2019)

We love our Whistable league, not least because it is one of the most attractive places to play tennis in the country. But we do need a few more players and more matches. That makes you so important to us. If you can help spread the word we would be really grateful. In fact, if you email us and tell us you have recommended a player, so long as they join the round we'll send you a pair of our exclusive Up/Down racket dampeners!

Group Summary:

A couple of unfortunate withdrawals hit this group like an off oyster, which was a pity as the matches themselves were pearls. Daniel made the most of the leaner than usual pickings to grab the group win on his return to the league. Well done!

Player Comments:

  • "It was a tough and windy day in Whitstable today which had an impact on both our games. The scoreline doesn't represent how close a match it really was with some great rallies and shots from both players. It was a pleasure playing today and I hope to play you again sometime soon David!"  -- Daniel
Reveal CommentDaniel Gould bt Branislav Varga (Sep 1) 6-2, 1-6, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Well played to Branislav and thanks for the great match! The first set was taken by me 6-2 and the second set was taken by Branislav 6-1. The third set was a much closer affair with some long and tense service games where I finally found my serve and managed to close out a tight third set. A very tight match which could've gone either way! Hope to play you again soon Branislav and thank you for the match!"  -- Daniel

Player Comments:

  • "My thanks to Dan for being such a pleasant opponent and playing such a good match which I was very lucky to steal at the end after a second set trouncing. Lovely forehand firing over at me from the other side of the net. So apologies to him for that (and many thanks to whoever invented the tie-break!) Duarte"  -- Duarte
Reveal CommentBranislav Varga bt David Mikhail (Aug 11) 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), [10-5]

Player Comments:

  • "Well played by David , quite windy today , first set was taken by David, second set I was winning 5:1 and David managed to change it to 5:6, so almost on the knees, but managed to win the game and then tiebreak. Due to the time pressure last set only championship tiebreak 10:5 , lucky again for me. This is magic of the Tennis! Thank you David for coming to Herne Bay, see you next round. B."  -- Branislav

Group Summary:

With John not getting going at all (what happened?) again matches were hard to come by but Jed earns himself a pint at the Old Neptune thanks to his two wins.

Player Comments:

  • "A hot afternoon with the sun making serving tricky at one end. A good match with some close games. I got lucky with quite a few sliced mis-hits. Thanks David for waiting for me to find a parking space (I was 30min late!)."  -- Jed

Group Summary:

Newcomer James showed how it is done not only winning all his four matches but collecting his bonus points along the way. A great performance which no one could match, but for sheer drama, runner up Helen, had one of those rounds peppered with great matches! Nice group...

Player Comments:

  • "A great match, very enjoyable and very evenly fought apart from the second set where Helen stormed ahead. A match with so many deuces throughout that due to time restrictions we agreed on a champions tie break to settle the match. Had we played another set I feel Helen may have won. In the end I somehow managed to get the win. Thanks Helen, hopefully a rematch soon once I’ve recovered."  -- Gareth

Player Comments:

  • "Wow, really good game. First set almost every game went to deuce. Helen is really good at the net and service was challenging to handle. The other sets were closer than score line suggest. I will take a few weeks to recover. Thanks for game helen"  -- James
