It was another busy round in Wimbledon Park with 11 groups and 12 new faces in the mix, and the tennis was as competitive as ever with lots of close scorelines and well earned wins. Nearly two thirds of matches were played across the round although this figure was higher in several of the groups... so another successful round and we hope to see you back for more tennis action next time!

Reveal CommentJon Gustafsson bt Serge Taborin (Aug 26) 6-2, 7-6 (9-7)

Player Comments:

  • "This was a great match with many long rallies and hard-contested points! I was 5-2 up in second set but couldn't get over the line and Serge instead made a great comeback. I was then 3-0 up in the tiebreak when Serge won 6 straight points to make it 6-3. I somehow managed to get back and only after a couple of uncharacteristic misses from Serge at 7-7 I was fortunate enough to nail it. Had Serge won that tiebreak, I think he most likely would have gone and won the decider. "  -- Jon

The first set initially went Peters way as he played a series of clever cross court drop shots into the backhand, but I managed to sneak ahead towards the end of the set. Very close sets; just the odd point going my way in the 1st to get me over the line, and Matt firing in several aces backed up with some great passing shots meaning that I was always unsuccessfully chasing the 2nd. Hopefully, we can get in a 3rd in the next few weeks as it was a really enjoyable match to be part of played in great spirits."  -- Mathew

The match took the full two hours, and I was completely exhausted after sprinting around the court for most of that time, chasing after lobs, trying to get to passing shots or just running from deep backhand to short forehand. Victor then went up 5-2 in the second and had his first set point on serve at 5-3. I managed to equalise to force a tie-break. I wasted three match points at 6-3, then Victor turned the table to create two more set points at 7-6 and 8-7. Combined with 50kmph gusts of wind conditions were set to make this a hard match for both players to show their true ability. But when the dust settled, and with the will of the adorning crowd, many pleasant rallies were had. All in all a great occasion, though Graf's (Sammy's) refusal to sign autographs for fans at the end left a bitter taste in the mouth."  -- Richard
