Player Comments:
- "Very close match with so many long rallies and long deuce games. In the second set i fought from 3-1 down to 5-3 up before Agata brought it back to 5-5. I then fought through a very long deuce game to break once again before i finally served out the match. Special mention to Agata who had already played for 2 hours today but still played a great match and could have easily won!" -- Alexander
Reveal CommentAlfred Wong bt Gabriel Bonsoir (Feb 19) 7-5, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "The first game set the tone for the match. It alone took 15 minutes and 6 deuces. It was so even that neither of us could build any momentum. Gabriel saved a set point at 4-5 and then two more at 5-6. I finally closed the first set on the fourth. I started feeling more relaxed in the second set and really went for my serve and ground strokes, which paid dividends. Luck was also on my side even though Gabriel forced many games to deuce. I raced to a 5-0 advantage before Gabriel played a solid service game to make me serve it out. A couple of nervous points almost left the door ajar for a comeback from Gabriel, but I managed to hold my nerve to force an error on the second match point." -- Alfred

Reveal CommentAlfred Wong bt Nicolas Meleg (Feb 7) 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, [12-10]
Player Comments:
- "Nic played a really good tiebreak to take the first set. He carried the momentum into the second set, and I very soon found myself in deep trouble falling behind 1-4 and was definitely on my way out. I have no idea what changed at this point, but somehow I managed to win the next five games to equalise. Due to lack of time, we elected to play a match tiebreak. I raced to an 8-5 lead, then 9-7. Nic played extremely well to save three match points before I finally claimed a very narrow victory on the fourth with an unreturnable serve." -- Alfred

Reveal CommentAlfred Wong bt Anna Neale (Feb 6) 6-3, 6-1
Player Comments:
- "When the clock struck the one-hour mark, we were still battling at 3-3 in the first set! Six out of the first seven games went to multiple deuces. After finally closing out the first set, I loosened up and started playing with more freedom. Despite the score line, the second set was still very competitive and overall it was a really enjoyable match." -- Alfred

Having won a very tight first set, I fought from 4-2 down in second set to having 2 failed attempts to serve out the match. Omer won the tie break very convincingly and seemed to have grabbed the match with both horns, leading 8-5 in the match tie break, before I somehow dug deep to win 5 points in a row to takr the match. Player Comments:
- "I’m always the underdog when I play Alfie and to beat him I always have to play well and hope Alfie is not quite at his best and that is what happened today. However, it was still a good game with some very good points from both of us and there were moments in both sets where it could’ve gone either way! Cheers Alfie!" -- Alex

Player Comments:
- "An absolute epic to start off the round and nice to finally get a win after a bad losing streak in the last round. Anna played brilliantly in the first set, and I was really struggling to see the ball as a couple of the floodlights weren’t working. In the second set we moved to the adjacent court where the visibility was much better. Anna fought from 4-2 down back to 4-4 and 40-15 but i managed to keep fighting to eventually take the the match to a third set. I managed to carry my momentum into the third to eventually win. Fortunately, I was able to secure the crucial break in the final game of each set to claim the hard-fought victory." -- Alfred

Reveal CommentPeter Roberts bt Don McGill (Feb 25) 6-3, 6-3
Player Comments:
- "Another good, competitively match this bright morning. After extending an early 3-0 lead to 5-1, my progress was halted by Don with some steady directional play after some of my best shots. What a relief to finally close out the first set! In the second, there was same mix of tightly contested games, many going to multiple deuces. Today for the first time this round, I was more comfortable attacking the second serve and this and some steady serving probably helped swing he balance of play after Don has a chance to go 4-4. All very close and enjoyable. Thanks - looking forward to our next encounter, Don! " -- Peter
Anil Filiz bt Hugh Constant (Feb 23) 6-3, 6-2
Reveal CommentPeter Roberts bt Tom Rebbeck (Feb 19) 4-6, 6-4, [10-7]
Player Comments:
- "Great conditions for a very even match this morning, apart from having to deal with the glaring sun at one end of the court. Tom was playing more steadily and took a 5-2 lead before I crept back, but too late. Serving was OK but I was struggling with my some of strokes and this in turn also prevented Tom from getting his rhythm fully. Nevertheless it was a very close battle all the way with several extended deuce games and gnarly rallies. At 4-4 in the second set it could easily have been a straight sets win for Tom but I just managed to squeeze ahead and was relieved to grab the set after Tom failed to hold. With half an hour remaining, a shame to have to resort to the Championship tie break but I just ahead, this time. Thanks, Tom!" -- Peter

Player Comments:
- "A very competitive encounter in the crisp evening Wimbledon Park air. Jenny was very steady throughout and mostly returning my serves with interest. Had I not found some of my more consistent firm this evening, the outcome would have been very different as all but a few games went to deuce, with many great rallies. It was a massive relief to close out as Jenny never gave up and challenged me to play as positively as I could, throughout. Very good match, thanks, Jenny!" -- Peter
Reveal CommentPeter Roberts bt Anil Filiz (Feb 5) 4-6, 6-3, [10-5]
Player Comments:
- "Such a competitive first couple of sets followed by a slightly anti-climactic Championship tie-break because we just couidn’t be sure to conclude with just 35 mins court time remaining. A shame really as there just isn’t time to pull back if one of you sneaks a lead! Thanks, Yigit, for a hugely enjoyable, very tough and lose match!" -- Peter

Player Comments:
- "Long match - 3 sets played over two sessions. The first was during the cold snap - court was more like an ice rink than a tennis court. The conditions were perfect for the second session so we tried to make it hard for ourselves by using some of the highest bouncing balls Wimbledon Park has ever seen. Thanks for the match Yigit. " -- Tom

- "An epic battle lasting 2.5 hours! Super competitive tennis throughout with lots of long challenging rallies and one 10 minute game with over a dozen deuces! Angie held to level 5-5, we both held the next games to take us to a hard-fought tiebreak that went right to the wire… I got lucky and only just edged it. Well played Angie, thanks for a great match! Best of luck with the rest of your matches. D " -- Don

Player Comments:
- "Great to be back on court after an extended break and for what turned out be a cracking match with many fast, thrilling rallies. We both started off quite steadily with Angie playing first time on these artificial grass courts and progressively getting the measure of the bounce and some of the best serves and shots I have managed for a while. Thanks, Angie, for a great match with flawless line-calls and score-keeping. At 3-3 in the second set this could easily have turned out quite differently and may well, next time!" -- Peter

Player Comments:
- "What a match. So close. Simon has improved immensely in the past year. His serve is now a big weapon; I was having a lot of trouble returning his first serve. And he has these lethal passing shots off both wings. Shot of the match: Simon was running in off his serve and took the ball high on his back hand and volleyed it sweetly across court. I hope to play Simon again soon." -- Richard

Lots of fun rallies and deuce games. TBC - Apoorv to serve. " -- Isobel

Player Comments:

I just managed to edge a hard-fought second set. Then I got lucky: Simon lost his service rhythm, so that 6-1 decider is an unfair reflection on a very close contest. All credit to Simon, who maintained a smiling, courteous disposition when things turned against him. Look forward to our next encounter." -- Brendan
