Player Comments:

  • "Good to see Dom again and get a game in. First set he made quite a few unforced errors from the back of the court and I was able to keep good depth on my ground strokes to close it out. Second set was much tighter with Dom hitting some great backhands cross court and some great volleys at the net. At 5-4 in the second set I was starting to think about a tie break when he raced to 40-0 up. A few good shots from me and an unfortunate double fault kept me in the game and I was able to sneak over the line after a long deuce. Good luck in your other games and hope to play again soon!!"  -- David

Reveal CommentMark Errington bt Rob Slade (Sep 19) 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "An absolute battle over 3 sets, +3 hours, and two separate sessions at Cheshire Oaks and then Hoylake. Rob is such a tough opponent. His attacking net play and excellent placement mean no points are easily won. We had a good mixture of high quality tennis and some disastrous play from both of us which made for an entertaining match. Good luck at your tournament this week! Look forward to another slog soon. "  -- Mark
Reveal CommentPeter Ferrett bt Nathaniel McEwan (Sep 18) 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6)

Player Comments:

  • "Though we played on Thorndale's fine all weather asphalt instead of North Cheshire's shale, the score (and to some extent the match) was strikingly similar to our previous match, the difference being I won 8-6 in the 3rd set tiebreak instead of 9-7. I was the more consistent player in the 1st set but in the 2nd Nathan's error rate dropped, mine became higher and he hit a lot of his excellent forceful flat forehands to win points. The 3rd set was full of long rallies where neither of us was wanting to lose the point, I was 6-5 up but couldn't put it away. The tiebreak was very tightly played but again I just managed to edge it. When Nathan reduces hitting some shots a bit too long, I expect our next match will go against me. Thanks Nathan "  -- Peter
Reveal CommentDavid Britzman bt Rob Slade (Sep 17) 7-6 (10-8), 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Had a few tough matches against Rob and we were both expecting a 3 hour slog. I tried to be a bit more aggressive than usual and finish the points earlier as he usually has me running all over the court. Was missing a lot at the beginning of the first set and Rob hit some great serves and backhands to race into a 4-1 lead. I managed to pull it back to a tie break and just snuck the set after we’d both saved 2 set points. The second set I grew in confidence and got some better forehands to win a few easier points although Rob still made me work hard with several long games towards the end. Great to play Rob again and look forward to our next marathon match!"  -- David
Reveal CommentMark Errington bt David Britzman (Sep 17) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Great to meet and play David. We had a good close match with some great rallies in excellent weather at Bebington. Luck was certainly on my side today - a few net cords and a couple of miss hits from David giving me some flukey points. Look forward to playing again in future. "  -- Mark

Reveal CommentMark Errington bt Dominic Spivey (Sep 11) 1-6, 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • " A great match the ebbed back and forth. Dom completely dominated the first set, hitting great winners at the net and some fantastic angled forehands that I couldn’t get anywhere near. I was very relieved to start the second set with a break. Dom rallied back to make it 4-3 but I managed to hold serve and see it out. The deciding set was blighted by the weather somewhat, taking the flow out of our game a little. We played on and I took the win this time but it could’ve been a different story in better weather. Thanks to Dom for hosting. Looking forward to our next match. "  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "We were lucky to get any tennis played, let alone 2 sets in on and off rain. Great to catch up and play Peter again. My serves were landing nicely today and perhaps the rain stifled Peter’s normal spin and drop shot game somewhat. Thanks for a good match and knock up afterwards."  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "Great to meet and play Nathan. Some good rallies and a great second set. I did my best to keep it off Nathan’s powerful and effective forehand drive. A couple of service games proved to be the difference today. Thanks for a good match. "  -- Mark
Reveal CommentDavid Britzman bt Nathaniel McEwan (Sep 3) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Good to meet Nathan and get our game in. Nathan had some very dangerous serves and forehands but unfortunately wasn’t able to be as consistent as he would have liked during the match. I’m sure once Nathan gets a bit more consistent he’ll be an extremely dangerous opponent!"  -- David
Reveal CommentPaul Scallion bt Mark Errington (Aug 31) 5-7, 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Mark battered me in our first game at Hoylake so I knew this would be a tough match despite it being my turn to play at 'home'. He does a lot of things well, excellent deep approaches backed up with good skills up at the net, never double faults and keeps an even temperament throughout the game whatever the scoreline. I'm particularly jealous of the last 2, after double faulting to lose the first set, I did it again on my first match point leading to me having a mini meltdown. Luckily I managed to gather myself and get through the final game of what was a very tight decider, which was basically a coin toss with most or even all of the games going to deuce. Thanks Mark, a great match with very friendly and sporting opponent. "  -- Paul
Reveal CommentRob Slade bt Peter Ferrett (Aug 30) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the match Peter. A lot of close games especially early in the second set when you had me on the ropes, also for your seriously good and helpful advice on racket strings. "  -- Rob
Reveal CommentPaul Scallion bt Peter Ferrett (Aug 29) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Great to see Pete after we hadnt played for quite a while. As usual I found myself doing a hell of a lot of running, mainly due to his ability to hit a drop shot from anywhere on court. And whilst he hit a few absolute beauties I couldnt get to, I got to enough to get the win. It was never a 61 61 as there were a lot of deuce games, and Pete never gave up, saving a load of match points in the final game before I could finally nab one. Thanks Pete for an enjoyable match and sporting game."  -- Paul

Reveal CommentRob Slade bt Nathaniel McEwan (Aug 26) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Excellent close match. If you remember Nathan from six months ago be prepared for a massively improved player. He is now in practice and hitting shots with pace and depth, and making now only a few mistakes. I was on the defensive most of the match. He won a set against Paul 6–1. Not sure many have done that."  -- Rob
Reveal CommentPaul Scallion bt Nathaniel McEwan (Aug 24) 6-4, 1-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Had played Nathaniel a couple of years ago when he'd just started back playing and thought at the time if he plays regularly he'll be a dangerous player as he had a lot of power on his serve and forehand. This was definitely the case and his powerful flat forehand won him a lot of points as I simply couldnt get to it. First set was decent quality and pretty close as the scoreline suggests, Nathaniel barely made a mistake in the second and again as the scoreline suggests he won it easily. The level dropped quite a bit in the third as we both probably played a little nervously, and I just concentrated on getting as much in court as possible and that got the job done. Thanks Nathaniel for an enjoyable and sporting match. "  -- Paul
