Player Comments:

  • "Good to meet and play with Matt, the whole match and especially the second set was incredibly tight with lots of duces and fitting tiebreak to finish it off. Matt's first serve is pretty dangerous so you have to be on the ball. Cheers for a good game Matt!"  -- Harris

Player Comments:

  • "It was good to meet Jules, we played at Thorndale LTC on a sunny afternoon. Jules has previously played another racket sport and has good flat and slice shots and ball placement. I came from behind to win the first set, my various spin shots sometimes coming off to good effect. In the 2nd and 3rd sets Jules read my shots better and placed the ball deep to either corner with enough pace to make it hard for me get to it. I hit an occasional good shot in these sets but was hoist by my own petard a couple of times where my heavily spun shot was put back by Jules with a lot of my spin still on it, giving me awkward shots to deal with. Jules consistent groundstroke and volley placement was just too good for me today. Thanks for the match Jules "  -- Peter

Player Comments:

  • "Great to meet Matt for the first time. Matt hits some true hard one-handed backhands on the run with some good first serves thrown in"  -- Danny
Reveal CommentAdam Warren bt Paul Scallion (Feb 7) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Great match with Paul. We always have great rallies and good chats. I got off to a flying start in the first set but the second set scoreline was a much better representation of the match. Some great rallies throughout and some hard fought service games. Thanks Paul, hope to have a hit soon."  -- Adam

Reveal CommentPeter Ferrett bt Harris Richards (Feb 3) 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was nice to meet Harris. We played at Thorndale LTC on a dull afternoon which was on the edge of drizzling. The 1st set was very close, Harris got off to a 3 game lead before I pulled the score back, and then it was a bit of a see-saw until the end of the tiebreak. Harris deserved to win the set but not necessarily with the net cord he got when 8-7 up in the tiebreak lol!. Harris can hit groundstrokes from both sides quite hard and also goes to the net on approach shots, I had to hit more passing shots and particularly lobs to win points. I did hit some drop shot winners but had to be careful as Harris moves well and would punish poor shots. I may've got the second two sets by being the more consistent player. Thanks for the match Harris"  -- Peter
Reveal CommentPaul Scallion bt Peter Ferrett (Jan 31) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Good to see Pete, we always have an enjoyable match and I often get some useful tennis information when we speak afterwards. This was his first match of the group and I'd already got a good few in across this and the Liverpool round so this gave me a big advantage today. However it was still competitive, far more than the scoreline suggests, with plenty of deuce games that went my way. Thanks for the game."  -- Paul
Reveal CommentPaul Scallion bt Harris Richards (Jan 30) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "First time I've played Harris, and we had 2 very different sets. First went very quick but the second was totally different, he improved a lot and it was close all the way, definitely wasnt a 62 set. There was one game with about 5/6 deuces which I won that was probably a little turning point and gave me the momentum to see the set out. Thanks for the game Harris, very sporting and played in a good spirit throughout."  -- Paul
Mieczyslaw Staniszewski bt Matthew Weatherston (Jan 29) 6-0, 6-0
Reveal CommentDanny Elder bt Julian Lea (Jan 28) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "I enjoyed the chats with Julian just as much as playing the tennis. We're like-minded and exchanged many views on a range of things. It's good the social side of tennis as well as just playing the game itself. "  -- Danny
Reveal CommentPaul Scallion bt Matthew Weatherston (Jan 26) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Matt and me are at the same club so it was a little weird playing a parks league match against each other but at least I knew what to expect. His first serve is a rocket so I needed to focus on getting that back as much as possible and get into the rallies. The first set was tight and could of went either way really, and then I relaxed more in the second and played a bit better. Thanks a lot for the game Matt."  -- Paul
Julian Lea bt Julian Lea (Jan 24) 6-2, 6-0
Reveal CommentPaul Scallion bt Julian Lea (Jan 23) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable match this, scoreline probably flatters me a bit, I thought Jules level was good considering how long he's been playing. The big difference was I stayed more consistent throughout the match and made less mistakes. Played in great spirit throughout, thanks Jules and look forward to playing again."  -- Paul
Mieczyslaw Staniszewski bt Julian Lea (Jan 20) 6-0, 6-4
