Player Comments:

  • "Good to get a game in on a sunny day in Birkenhead Park. I always struggle against Rob who’s very difficult to play against with his aggressive movement to the net so was very pleased to get the win. I tried to be a bit more aggressive with my shot placement than when we’ve played previously which seemed to work well. Lots of good rallies with Rob coming to the net a lot to finish points off and me hitting some good passing shots and lobs. Score line in the second set was a bit flattering with a lot of games going to deuce. Good game and look forward to playing Rob again!!"  -- David

Player Comments:

  • "First time playing Emanuele and first time playing at Higher Bebington. The courts there are great for public courts and we had an enjoyable match. Emanuele took a little while to find his range but once he did he was hitting a lot of powerful spin shots that I was struggling to deal with. The second set was very even and I was happy to sneak it as Emanuele kept improving as the match was going on. Thanks for the game Emanuele, good to meet you and look forward to playing again soon."  -- Paul

Reveal CommentDavid Britzman bt Andrew Benc (Apr 23) 0-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Very close game with Andrew that could have gone either way. It started off very one sided with Andrew racing into a 6-0 5-2 lead with a series of excellent aggressive forehands from shorter balls that I couldn’t get anywhere near. At 5-2 in the 2nd I decided I had to find a way to get the ball deeper and stop him from coming in. I won 3 games in a row to bring the score back to 5-5 with a few good deeper forehands and drop shots. The next 2 games were shared leading to a tense second set tie break. Andrew had 2 match points at 6-4 before I won 4 points in a row to take the set. The 3rd set was very even but I was able to find a way to get over the line and take the set 7-5. A great surprise for me to win against a very strong opponent!"  -- David

Player Comments:

  • "In the nicest possible sense I hate playing Dave, he is so difficult to hit a winner against and has an uncanny knack of being able to get almost anything back to a decent length wherever he is on court. Although we didnt actually play that many games the match took ages with many long rallies and deuce games. Today the small margins were on my side and I was able to get my first win against him. An enjoyable, competitive match and a good chat after we finished, thanks Dave."  -- Paul

  • "Great to meet Adi, we played at North Cheshire LTC on the shale which was coming out of damp, slowing balls down and keeping them low. Adi adapted to the surface quickly, I tried to move him wide, both ways, quite a a lot but he got to most shots with ease. He seemed to know how I was likely to play as he hit the right shots to bother me, keeping the ball low, hitting flattish forehands to good deep court positions in both corners and slice backhands/dropshots short in the forecourt. The low shots took away my backhand slice drive for most of the match. I had a few good dropshots at the start of the match but towards the end it was Adi hitting them to great effect. Once the serve improves he'll be even harder to play. Thanks for match Adi"  -- Peter

  • "A great match and lovely to meet Marco. There were some really good baseline rallies and Marco’s movement, strong backhand and superb passing shots were giving me a lot of trouble. We traded quite a few breaks and the second set went back and forth a few times. A few lucky net shots gave me just enough to get over the line. We were both enjoying the glorious weather in Bebington and stuck around for a fun knock-up in the sunshine. Thanks Marco!"  -- Mark

Player Comments:

  • "Good to play Chris again. Last time was on asphalt, this time on North Cheshire's shale. A rollercoaster match, in the 1st set I was using my home court advantage, keeping the ball low to make topspin drives etc, difficult. Chris adapted to the situation and in the 2nd set, sped up the pace of rallies and was hitting flat and slice shots past me (and some dropshots) to take the set, Chris was moving really well to get to wide balls and then hitting great shots back. In the 3rd set I managed to slow things down again, low deadeners and dropshots with the occasional down the line drive and lob if Chris came in. A very enjoyable match, lots of rallies (cat and mouse stuff in the 3rd and 4th sets) & lots of deuces. Thanks for the match Chris."  -- Peter
Reveal CommentPeter Ferrett bt Marco Candeloro (Apr 25) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "I've probably still played Marco more than any one else in the Parks League. It was one of those days where I played quite a variety of my shots and fortunately a fair few came off. We were playing on the shale courts of our common home ground : North Cheshire LTC. It was dry, so there was a reasonable height to the ball bounce along with the usual biting take on spin shots. Marco wasn't quite able to get his usual consistency today and was making a few more errors than is usual in our matches. He won his games when he managed to string several good shots together, often ending the point with a driven two handed backhand or his new drive forehand. Again the score doesn't show all the long rallies and deuce/ad yo-yoing. Thanks again Marco "  -- Peter

  • "Thanks to Peter for hosting at North Cheshire. A really fun match on the shale courts. Lots of deuce games and some great rallies at the net. I was relieved to take the first set after we traded several breaks early on. The second set was really tight and could’ve gone either way. Peter’s excellent slices were causing me trouble and he had the momentum after saving match point at 5-4. I just about nicked it in the tie-break."  -- Mark

  • "A great match and a lovely morning down at Hoylake. Lots of deuce games in the first set and it was much closer than the 6-1 scoreline would suggest. Adi got his serve going in the second set and there were some excellent rallies all over the court with plenty of running from both of us. Ali has a really strong backhand and will be an even tougher opponent when he lands his serve. Thanks for a fun knock up afterwards too."  -- Mark

  • "Enjoyable match with Gregg in the cold sunshine on excellent courts in Bebington. Was much closer than the score suggests especially in the second set where Gregg really came into it with some excellent drop shots. Gregg forced several deuces and had a couple of advantages in the seventh game but fortunately I managed to hold serve. It might have been a very different outcome if it had gone 4-3 instead of 5-2. Thanks Gregg, look forward to playing again!"  -- Chris

Looking forward to playing a few social matches again in the future. Thanks again! Mark"  -- Mark

Kalpani is so good at baseline rallies and keeps you pinned back . I had to change tactics and get to the net otherwise I would of just been outplayed from the baseline with her consistent ground strokes.
