Collapse AllAdur and Worthing Singles - Round 19 | Thursday 3 May 2018 to Wednesday 27 June 2018 (Midpoint: Wednesday 30 May 2018)

Only one group this time, but over two thirds of all possible matches played. Thank you for putting in all that hard work - we hope it was fun (and judging from the commentaries it was!). Do spread the word, it would be great to have two groups for the summer round.

Group Summary:

Many congratulations to Tomasz who surged into the lead after playing 6 matches and winning every single one! Aaron was two points behind after winning 5 of his 6 matches which secured him that second place spot, the only player that he lost against was Tomasz in what was described as "one of my toughest matches if not in this league then perhaps even this year"! A superb effort was put into playing many matches and earning bonus points so well done to the whole group for a fantastic round. This round we warmly welcome back Roger, Gerald and Simon and we also welcome Rob; it's great to see such commitment from so many new and returning players.

  • "This match was good fun. A comfortable start but a few hiccups in the second (including Kenzi breaking my serve). Eventually fought off the 'end-of-week' doziness and completed the win. "  -- Aaron

  • "This was one of my toughest matches if not in this league then perhaps even this year! Congrats to Tomasz for churning out a more consistent pattern of play his end and being a great sport, deserving his win. Great game!"  -- Aaron
Reveal CommentSimon Kay bt Michael Inns (May 23) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Unfortunately, Michael, took a tumble after the first game and banged his head. He was determined to soldier on, so I took full advantage of his potentially concussed state and raced into a 5:0 lead. At this point Michael's head seemed to clear and it got much harder. We managed to finish the game just as it was getting dark and the rain was starting. Hope you feel ok tomorrow Mike!"  -- Simon

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentMichael Inns bt Gerald Mackenzie (May 19) 7-5, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "Kenzie and I have had some great close matches over the last year going both ways and this was another on a beautiful sunny morning by the sea. First set close again could have gone either way but, just edged it. The second set Kenzie had an injury so again just got the set after tiebreak-a pleasure as always Kenzie look forward to the next meeting"  -- Michael

Player Comments:

  • "A great match which swung both ways including an epic game with endless deuces."  -- Simon
Reveal CommentAaron Van der Poll bt Michael Inns (May 17) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "This was another exciting match and Michael did have many opportunities to edge ahead in the match towards the latter stages of the first set. Through in the second I managed fewer unforced errors and kept the pressure on till the finish line. Great match, and hope to see you again on court Michael! "  -- Aaron
Reveal CommentAaron Van der Poll bt Rob Staggs (May 16) 6-0, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Whoa what a thrilling match! Rob came out stressing he wasn't in form, and the bagel first set seemed to suggest that. However going into the second set I was expecting another comfortable journey, but no. Rob played tenaciously and got many tricky serves right back and kept applying pressure throughout. Rob was 2-4 up and I was started to get seriously worried, but eventually I held my nerve at 4-5 and tried to stay calm to claim the match. Good game Rob. "  -- Aaron
Reveal CommentAaron Van der Poll bt Simon Kay (May 11) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A riveting match! Both sets played were high intensity and encouraged lots of movement from both Simon and I. In the first, Roger was 4-3 up and could have easily proceeded to claim the set, though one or two cheap points won made it 4-4 where I kept my focus, got another fortunate break and then took the set. Definitely feel we need a rematch. Great match Simon. - Aaron "  -- Aaron
Reveal CommentRoger Wilkey bt Rob Staggs (May 11) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Rob has not played for some years but put up a good fight and has a unique style of play. He made some spectacular returns when I thought I had hit a winner. Thanks for the match Rob and good luck in the future."  -- Roger
Reveal CommentSimon Kay bt Roger Wilkey (May 7) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The game was played in sweltering bank holiday heat. Fortunately for me Roger had taken advantage of the weather and been out for two bike rides before the game. I took the first set 6-1, but then wilted in the heat. Roger came back strongly forcing a deuce in the final game. Thanks for a great game Roger!"  -- Simon
Reveal CommentAaron Van der Poll bt Roger Wilkey (May 4) 6-3, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "The weather was set for a great match. Set one kicked off promptly and the scoreboard reached 3-3 before Roger had an unfortunate accident which got the first aid kit out (only a bloody nose) however he soldiered on. An hour or so later of healthy tennis with lots of running and the fun match was concluded. Great effort Roger! "  -- Aaron
