  • "As so often happens, the score don't divulge the quality of the match. Three hours, three courts and two venues only hints at the longevity of the match. The match was full of breaks, comebacks , long rallies, deuces, lucky net points and winners. The new set of tennis balls are now only suitable to play fetch with the dog such is the beating they have endured. With tiring legs but inexhaustible spirit the last set seesaw from attritional to sublime. Nice to meet you Burnham."  -- Vivek

Player Comments:

  • "Always a long 3-set battle with Nick with no shortage of epic points to make the highlight reel. I managed to cut out the silly errors just in time to be able to take the first set. Nick served too well in the 2nd set and took it without too much trouble. As cliched as it sounds, the final set was not as comfortable as the score looks - all but one game went to deuce and it took multiple deuces to win many games. I was relieved to avoid Nick making another incredible comeback against me to win the 3rd. Fantastic game Nick and look forward to playing again."  -- Rajiv

First set was tight till Victor broke my serve in the penultimate game - he's a very canny player and use a mixture of drives, slices and lobs to excellent effect Second set started going his way as well, till I rediscovered my serve at 1-4 - pulling it back to 5-4 at which point I served for the set. He broke my serve but I was able to take the next two games 3rd set began with us holding serve up to 3-3 I broke for 4-3 and then played one of the longest service games of my life to get to 5-3 The last game, I just went for my shots as I was feeling the exertion - Victor has amazing defensive skills! Alberto decided to serve on the first game and I managed to shield of his serve. I started the second game confident with a out wide ace and tried to keep the momentum. Alberto fought back with a thundering down the line ace but I managed to combat the set with precise line ground strokes. I started the second set with another out wide ace but lost the game. So the games began and Callan won his service on the opening game I then proceeded to get back into the set by winning my service and pushing on from there. By the second set the heat was taking its toll on both of us. Callum broke my service in the opening game and done some lovely driving winning shots. We had one long rally and I managed to finish it of with a nice volley. I think that broke the camels back :-) and I went on to take the set. The first set I went ahead but Pak came back with some striking backhand rotation and looping forehands. I had to steady myself to take the set. The second set I went full pelt but my service range was way out so Pak capitalised and built in confidence and surged ahead to take the set. By the third set I knew Pak was physically drained so I adjusted my service and concentrated on my grounds strokes to take the match. Well done Pak and good luck ."  -- Richard

John then held his serve and broke mine to go 4-2. I then had to dig deep and produce consistent service and ground strokes to level 4-4 then 6-4. 2nd set it was reversed as John went ahead 2 games and I had to scrap it back to 2-2. Then John pushed on and went 5-3 I had to look up to the sky :-). I manged to hold and break Johns serve 5-5 then I went -6-5 and John dug deep to 6-6. I then had to deliver my service and maintain focus and managed to cross the finishing line. Well done John and good luck. Fantastic games and rallies."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentSteven Joyce bt Becky Hewett (Sep 2) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I think technically Becky is very good player. Not alot off unforced errors, and caused me problems for me to finish points. Turn up the gas a few clicks Becky on the aggression and you gonna cause bigger problems for everyone who play you, me thinks :) I hope you enjoyed the cardio and all the best."  -- Steven
Reveal CommentAlberto Santini bt Callan Sigafoos (Sep 1) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "The second set reflects more the technical skills that Callan has. He is a rusty player that just needs more games under the belt. He has a lovely attitude towards the competitiveness of the league. I am looking forward to playing him again. Good luck for the remaining games in the group. Regards "  -- Alberto
Reveal CommentSteven Joyce bt John Critchley (Aug 31) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Lots of long rallies, and a cautious approach from the both of us, I think not wanting to give too many free points away especially in the first sett. I managed to take the first sett edging ahead. John turned up the gas a bit more in the second sett and was rewarded by leading 3-2, but I managed to dial in and take the sett 3-6. There was lots off close games thou and John battled well and made it difficult with some great passing shots. Good match and good luck to John :)"  -- Steven
