  • "Another epic two and a half hour battle with Augustin! The match was of a high standard with lots of swings in momentum. A very tight first set was ultimately taken by Augustin when he broke me at 5-5 and served it out. I cut down the errors in the second and third sets and was able to go for winners at key moments to take both sets. After three straight losses to Augustin, I was relieved to finally win one. A close game at 3-1 was won by Phil to make it 4-1; I clawed a couple of games back. going for broke..then edged away. Phil sadly strained his achilles (painful; Ive been there) and I ran out 6-4 winner, relived to have avoided a third set. Some great rallies and cracking individual shots from both players. First set was keenly fought and at 4-4 could have gone either way. Lots of deuce games but I was relieved to sneak ahead at 7-5. • "A lovely sunny morning for tennis. I was a bit rusty after injury but got off to a good start, Simon has an awkward style of play utilising lots of slice and he made good use of it in a close set. In the 2nd set I just couldn’t get going and Simon was 5-2 up before I managed to find my rhythm again and then won the last 5 games to snatch the set. Simon was disappointed not to get that set across the line but I was happy to get it done in two. "  -- Philip

  • "Thanks for the game today, Ben. It was a pretty wet one as we played it in drizzle/ light rain conditions but decided to plough on anyway... The first set especially had a lot of rapid and aggressive evenly-matched game play and in spite of the score really was decided on very fine in-game margins. The quality levels weren't quite as high in the second as we each got a little more soaked, but still had plenty of fun tennis. Best of luck with what remains of the round and catch you on court again someday!"  -- Doug

Player Comments:

  • "This was a really fun and evenly matched game. Although none of the sets produced a close finish the game play was very even throughout, with Adam generally being the more attacking and hitting more winners but with my greater consistency and defensive tenacity getting me enough games overall. The second set was probably the highest on quality overall - Adam had a couple of monster service games that I couldn't live with around that point, so I was very relieved when the last set swung back my way. Nice meeting you and I look forward to playing again at some point!"  -- Doug

Like the second set Alex came back from 4.1 down to 8.8 so it was a very marginal match I just scraped over the line but I can see Alex who is new to the leagues will win many other matches He has a very good forehand and a little fine tuning and he will rise up the leagues . Well done Alex and good luck with the remaining games Eamonn "  -- Eamonn

It was a very enjoyable match and thank you Spyros and good luck with your remaining games. I am currently playing with vision in one eye only, after a cataract operation but have to wait 6 months for the second eye to be operated on . I mention this as I would encourage anybody to continue playing tennis if you can and enjoy the sport . There are not many where you can do so . It was a really fun match with some great rallies with the second set going right down to the wire. Dougie and Keir hit some amazing winners particularly passing shots down the line and really deserved to take the match into a third set. At 4-4 in the second set we moved from the serenity of indoor back into the outdoor gusts of wind and we only just managed to hang on. Thanks for the game!"  -- Chris
