- "Great couple of sets with Tom on a crisp Christmas Eve morning. Tom came out of the blocks strong, with consistent serves and solid groundstrokes. The first set was a closely fought battle right to the end, I was just fortunate in making some key shots at crucial points in the last game. Second set was tighter than the score suggests, I was just able to get Tom out of position a few more times in the set which meant I was able to keep my nose in front. Tom's serving had improved significantly from last time and it made for a tough but enjoyable match." -- Andy

- "Another match where home advantage really helped me as Andy struggled to get used to the slower bounce of the hard courts. That said, it felt a lot closer than the score line suggests with a lot of good rallies and deuce games. Andy was hitting a lot of lines so I had to work hard, especially in the second set when he started really going for his shots. The first set was played in thick fog which made it interesting to say the least! Thanks for making the trip this way Andy and well played " -- Robin

- "Great to see Tom again today and my first time playing at his club Hamptons with decent astro courts, I could see straight away Tom was more home on the surface but unfortunately for him so am I! I was serving well from the off today and got myself 40-0 up a few times and even tho Tom battled back to 40-30 on more than one occasion I was able to find a decent serve to seal the games and nick his as well with a little bit of luck from the net occasionally…2nd set Tom started serving much better and was 2-1 in front with the games becoming much more competitive, from 2-2 tho I gradually managed to pull away with a couple of late breaks to take the set and the match. Many thanks for the game tho and look forward to playing at Baddow next time." -- Ian

- "Good match with Tom as always. Took me a little while to get used to the Hamptons courts and very heavy, wet balls but I did enough to get the win with a few less errors than Tom. There were lots of close games though and luckily we both managed to avoid the inconveniently placed fox poo! ??? Well played mate and look forward to the next one " -- Robin

- "Lovely to meet Max today for a match on the artificial clay at Billericay LTC. It’s my favourite surface so I got off to a strong start, hardly missing a ball in the first set. Max wasn’t playing badly at all though and in the second set there were some excellent rallies and points. Max’s serve was the only real thing letting him down today, and that was really the only reason I got the double love. A really enjoyable game though and it won’t be long till Max is smashing me up I’m sure. See you for the next one ?" -- Lee

- "Another one where home advantage and the concrete courts aided me immensely. It took Nick a few games to get used to the courts by which time it was a big ask for him to get back into the first set, though he gave it a good go with some very close games towards the end. Second set was much closer with Nick really finding his range and hitting some lovely clean winners that I had no answer to. Luckily I just about managed to stay slightly more consistent to get the job done. Really good game though, and thanks again for coming to Colchester. I look forward to (/dread) the rematch at your place! Well played Nick :)" -- Robin

- "Great match against Ian tonight. After he beat me comfortably on the carpet last round I was looking forward to getting him on the concrete this time around. The slower conditions probably favoured me and it made for some gruelling rallies. Ian is such a clever player, hitting some great angles and always making you play that extra shot (often resulting in me missing and losing the point!) I raced into a 3-0 lead as Ian was still getting used to the conditions but he soon came back and stole the first set. The second set started exactly the same and I was worried I was going to throw it away again. Luckily I managed to dig in and close it out but Ian doesn’t give much away so I had to work for every point. Well played mate, great battle. " -- Robin

- "Great to play against Max earlier today. I was fortunate to be on form and not missing much, and Max hadn’t played much in the last few weeks so gave me a few easy points. We had a good knock afterwards, and it was clear that Max has a lot of skill that will serve him well once he starts playing regularly again." -- Andy

- "Thanks to Tom for coming over to Ingatestone this morning. A mild autumnal day on the hard court. The first set was close. Tom took a 5-3 lead, annihilating most of my puny serves with powerful forehands. I scrambled back to a 6-5 lead, but couldn’t serve out the set. The tie-break disappeared in a flash, with Tom taking it 7-0. Tactically nothing much changed in the 2nd & 3rd sets, although possibly I played more cross-court shots to Tom’s forehand side rather than homing in on the backhand. All the games felt close, but somehow I reeled off 12 on the trot. Good luck in your future games Tom. Look forward to playing you again in a future round. " -- John

Player Comments:
- "After being caught napping early when playing Lee for the first time in the last round i was determined to come out of the blocks fast and even tho Lee came through a tough first service game to make it 1-1 i quickly gained the initiative by breaking his next service game to make it 3-1, from there on in i didn't really put a foot wrong and without Lee's normal consistency he was facing an uphill battle, he was forced into being more aggressive and today he just couldn't pull off the shots he needed at the right time, second set went much the same way but if anything i was giving Lee even less in the mistakes department and despite battling away till the end he wasn't able to get on the scoresheet...Good luck in your remaining matches Lee." -- Ian

- "Great to meet Max at Hamptons who is coming back from injury and was unable to compete in last round. Unfortunately the conditions were against us with the courts having taken a lot of rainfall which affected the quality of the match. I was able to get the win but with better conditions I am sure we will have a better match as there were a couple of nice rallies when conditions slowly improved. Good luck for the rest of your matches Max!" -- Tom

Player Comments:
- "Shock news – Bright wins a match! Good to play Nicholas today. Gusty windy conditions at Ingy TC, which might have been in my favour, as Nicholas more often plays indoors at DL Gidea Park. Most games were pretty close – as often in tennis, the scores don’t reflect the reality. Lots of deuces and break points to fend off. At 6-0 4-2 I was looking for the winning post but then lost 4 games on the trot and had to battle on to a 3rd set. Nicholas had a bigger serve and better backhand than me, retrieved well and hit to a good length. So how did I win – dunno - possibly slightly fewer unforced errors? Anyway, an enjoyable battle lasting nearly 2 hours. Good luck in your future games. " -- John

- "Great match against Nick who pulled out some strong gound strokes and solid first serves. After a very tight first two games I was fortunate in some of the following games on key points to manage to keep my nose in front. The second set was nip and tuck all the way with me stealing a break mid way through the set only for Nick to break back, before I found some solid ground srrokes to break again and then close the set out. A tight and enjoyable couple of sets. " -- Andy

Player Comments:
- "Great to meet John for our first match with John making the short trip to Baddow, despite being one of the older players in the league he is quick around the court and his experience has to be respected, anything short on his forehand was put away with ease and i quickly found myself at 15-40 on my serve in the first game, i managed to hold on tho and from there i was able to pull away but John was always a threat if i gave him an opening. In the end i was holding serves a lot quicker which meant the pressure went straight back to John but he battled hard till the end with a few more deuce games. Thanks for the game John and good luck with the rest of your matches." -- Ian

- "Great to meet John this evening, on a very windy but surprisingly mild November evening. John had a great knack of getting everything back and pushed me with his strong forehand and good use of angles. I was able to hold my nerve and find some well placed shots to nudge ahead and sneak the win in the end." -- Andy
