FREE TENNIS BALLS
Every player who completes three matches by the midway point of any round is sent a FREE can of tennis balls! Plus there are great offers all the time in our shop.
This is how it works:
- Players are organised into groups of between 5 to 9 people of a similar standard
- It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
- Groups are put together by standard and there can be any combination of men and women in a group (we do not guarantee a balance of men and women and you could be the only man in a group of women or vice versa!)
- Contact details are emailed and posted to each player's account page
- Players arrange their own matches
- You can play on any court that suits both players
The league is:
- For everyone over the age of 18
- We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
- Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
- Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above
Key points

- The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group. Contact details are also posted to your Account Page
- Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
- Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
- A point is awarded for each set won
- If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls)
- The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
- The winner of the group wins a voucher for £20 to be spent in the Local Tennis League online shop. A winner's certificate is also posted to the winner's Account Page as a PDF file.

Player Comments:

- "Played over two days, with the second day pouring biblical amount of water just before we started to play. Before and after was great weather. Great to play you once again David." -- Martyn
Player Comments:
- "Arnaud is a very good playing and any short ball you were in trouble. Great volleys too. Trickly playing court with some bad corners. But we go through it. Great match." -- Martyn
Player Comments:

Player Comments:
- "Thanks Ivan, an enjoyable match in good October conditions. " -- Dominic
Player Comments:
- "The match was played in 2 sessions. The first one was in challenging conditions on many levels: slippery court, strong wind and kids playing football on the next court. I had better start, but then Martin found his shots and won 6 games in a row. The second session started from 2:2 in the 3rd set. I was lucky to finish quick before he find his rhythm again." -- Ivan
Player Comments:
- "Super game albeit windy" -- Arnaud

Player Comments:
- "When I first joined the Docklands local league in group 2, Phil won group 1. Since then it became a goal to play him and beat him. I've already tried a few times, and failed. This time came close. After finding myself losing 1-4 in the first set, I managed to win the set. Then when I was leading comfortably 4-1 in the second set, Phil came back and won the set, crushing my morale. The third set was all his, with my missing a lot of shots. It was a great match! Next time, Phil, next time :)" -- David
Player Comments:
- "The match was played over 2 days and that gave me advantage not to have Winston properly warmed up, as I had the unfortunate experience to play him when in the zone closely watching winners passing me. This time managed to keep the errors winners ratio on good for me level." -- Ivan
Player Comments:
- "Was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests, lots of deuces and I had several lucky net cord shots at critical moments. Looking forward to playing again Ivan!" -- Tom
Player Comments:
- "Another great game with Phil. Closer than the score. I keep telling Phil to give me more games/sets but he won't comply. We knock quite regularly and he's more obliging then. Perhaps next time around. Thanks as always Phil." -- Winston
Player Comments:
- ''Thanks Phil for the match, nice to get this one finished'' -- Dominic
Player Comments:
- "Enjoyable match with long rallies as usual. I was playing more aggressive in the first set, while David took the initiative in the second with strong serving and deep balls not giving me much chance for attack. He also had 2 set points on his serve, but luckily I managed to defend well then and close the match." -- Ivan

- "Thank you Martyn, this was a very tough match played over two sessions. Slippery conditions on the first day made it very challenging and you saved 2 match points in the second set, to bring on a continuation. The second day edged in my favour, with one game winning lucky shot just creeping over the net. Thanks again for the match." -- Dominic

- "It was great to meet Stefania, our epic march played out over 4 separate meetings due to lack of time and rain. Stef won the first set and was hitting the ball really well, while I was quite inconsistent and struggled to find my range. In the second set I made some adjustments by keeping the ball shorter and lower which seemed to work. The third set was close but I just did enough to win. Stef is a great tennis player and even better person, wishing her the best of luck for the remaining games." -- Oliver

- "Great meeting Oliver and game TBC. We played the first set with very flat tennis balls. Will be fun to complete the match with newer balls next time. Oliver to serve at the start of the second set. " -- James
- "What a topsy turvy match. After the first set playing with flat tennis balls, we decided to arrange another time to play the 2nd (and potentially 3rd) set. On that day, it chucked it down with rain, meaning that we rearranged yet again to finish our match. In the 2nd set, I had a flying start, racing into a 4-0 lead. Oliver then showed incredible composure and played some exceptional tennis to pull it back to 4-4. Once we were back level, even though we were level, I believed it was anyone's set. I managed to clear my head and broke Oliver to go 5-4 up. I was very nervy in my service game, but managed to hold serve to close out the match. A really challenging match, thanks very much Oliver!" -- James
Player Comments:
- "Absolute pleasure to play with Kurt, lots of fun! Really entertaining match with lots of intense rallies! There were so many great points and a lot of scrambling from both of us. It was a hot and beautiful day in King Edwards Park. Lovely conditions but it was very tiring! I hope we play again soon, it was great to meet you. " -- James

Player Comments:
- "It was great meeting Helen and we had a fantastic match. The first set was characterised by inconsistent serving from both of us where we struggled to hold our service games. I found a bit of consistency towards the end of the set and managed to close it out. The second set was topsy turvy with lots of good rallies and close points. " -- Oliver
Player Comments:
- "A lovely game on a beautiful evening in Poplar Rec. Stefania and I attempted to play last week to no avail due to it raining - so this was our second attempt to play the match. We both were playing some nice tennis with lots of entertaining rallies. Key differences came in consistency on the key points, which can make such a big difference. It was really fun to play with Stefania and I hope we will play again socially another time. " -- James
Player Comments:
- "Had an enjoyable game of tennis with Helen. We had lots of great rallies, making it far more competitive than the score suggests, with plenty of games going to deuces. Helen's serve wasn't firing on the day which made it difficult for her to hold serve. After the match, we played some tiebreaks which were thoroughly enjoyable. Once again, these were competitive and Helen's serve was much better. Helen will definitely win games on another day and I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your matches. " -- James
Player Comments:
- "Such a tough match for me, exhausting! Tiago is a very consistent hitter which makes it very difficult to break him down and win points. We both started the match well, trading early breaks of serve. Tiago then went through a strong period of play, racing into a 5-2 lead and I was finding it tough to hold serve. Tiago held strong and took the first set 6-4. In the second set, I went through a bad patch whilst Tiago played well. He went 4-0 up and I just tried to keep the ball in court to try and make it respectable. Tennis is a funny game and I gathered a bit of momentum. This coincided with Tiago dropping off a bit and I managed to fight back to take the set 6-4. We concluded with a match tie break, which I won 10-1. Thanks!" -- James

- "Fun, back-and-forth contest with MJ. From 4-0 down in the first set to 4-4, and a second set that also swung with MJ having a 5-3 lead. When we resumed at one set all, the third set wasn’t quite the same after I took a commanding 4-0 lead in the midday sun, and was lucky to hold on for the win despite some niggling injuries as MJ left his A game at home. Thanks for the hit, MJ. Look forward to hitting again soon." -- MG

- "A very fun hit with Leon. Third set to continue soon. 2-2 Leon to serve from the south side" -- MG
- "A fun hit over 2 hours on two Sundays, on 2 courts, in 2 boroughs (once Leon found the right park). What Leon might lack in technique, he makes up for it with his athleticism, and had me wondering how he got some shots back numerous times, especially at the net. Serving wasn't great, but a lot of fun rallies all over the court, and too many deuce games to count. Leon wiped out a 3-0 lead in the 2nd and forced a decider, and when we resumed at 2-2 in the 3rd, it was a very cagey affair with 5 breaks. Some brutal body serves in the final game got me across the line. Best of luck for the rest of the round. Hope to play again soon!" -- MG
