Collapse AllDundee Singles - Round 16 | Thursday 14 November 2019 to Wednesday 22 January 2020 (Midpoint: Wednesday 18 December 2019)

Just the one group, but an excellent round to kick of the year. Thanks for braving sometimes arctic conditions to keep Dundee tennis thriving!

Group Summary:

A near perfect round for Darren though he did have to contend with some of the coldest match days of the winter! He also had to contend with JP who inflicted on Darren his only defeat of the round - a really tight battle that went the distance. Well done to Darren, the first group one champ of 2020. And well done too to Daniel who earned a worthy second place.

Player Comments:

  • "Clean match from me today against Mugurel, I didn't give away much cheap errors and was clinical in putting shots away when chances came up. Mugurel had some delicate touches over the net resulting in me struggling to get to the ball before it bounced twice. Thanks for the match."  -- Darren
  • "Good match against Darren. My first serve didn't show up almost at all today, making it for a very short match when I don't have my weapon, and Darren was quite good at keeping the ball in play forcing errors from me. Looking forward to the next round," -- Mugurel

Reveal CommentElliot Hay bt Mugurel Chirica (Jan 4) 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "A gruelling match and my longest one to date. Bud did well with several aces but will rue a poor first serve percentage. Traded games throughout with nobody really gaining a foothold, couldnt have been tighter. Good game."  -- Elliot
  • "It was a 3 hour marathon with many games that come to a deuce (which is a word we both came to loathe today). The match was very close, but Elliot managed to get the best of me where it mattered most, during the tiebreaker. Great match," -- Mugurel
Reveal CommentJames Morrison bt Elliot Hay (Jan 4) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Elliot fought valiantly through some uncomfortable injuries and was thwarted on a comeback in the second set only by the floodlights - which switched off, frustratingly, mid-way through the ninth game in set two! "  -- James
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt Daniel Macpherson (Dec 29) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Tough match with Danny today which included some really long rallies. My forehand wasn't really firing today and made way more errors than I would have liked. Mixed my game up a bit as Danny was really solid from the back of the court, so sometimes played short balls trying to draw him into the net, allowing a lob or passing shot. Interesting match. Well played Danny. "  -- Darren
JP Curran bt James Morrison (Dec 29) 6-0, 6-0
Reveal CommentKenneth Lindsay bt Daniel Macpherson (Dec 23) 7-6 (7-2), 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Was a good quality match in unusually mild conditions although the low sun was causing problems, dipping in and out the clouds. Was the usual baseline tussle with lots of rallies and with a variety of shots thrown into the mix. I was using the drop shot to good effect and Danny was whacking some thundering winners past me in reply. Close contest, hopefully we'll manage to play in the future. All the best Danny: good luck with the other matches."  -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt Kenneth Lindsay (Dec 11) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I had a very strong start and was playing well while Kenny took a while to get going. However he found his range in the 2nd set and started to hit some great shots. I went through a bit of a lull but ultimately took the 2nd set 6-3. A bit of a ugly win towards the end but a win nonetheless. Thanks Kenny for the match, especially at short notice. "  -- Darren
Reveal CommentKenneth Lindsay bt James Morrison (Dec 7) 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Hadn't seen James in a while so first set took forever what with all the blethering, catching up and with it going the distance. James fought back from 3-5 and easily took me in the tiebreak albeit winning it with the net cord (but was 6-2 so he'd earned it) Then I got it together and the second set flew in. In the 3rd was similarly close to the first but managed not to throw the lead away this time. Good game James much improved I found. Good luck for the rest of the round!"  -- Kenneth
Reveal CommentDaniel Macpherson bt Mugurel Chirica (Dec 3) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Playing with Danny was challenging as usual, he managed to break my serve multiple times and I didn't manage to put enough pressure on him to make something happen. Great match," -- Mugurel

  • "Great match with Kenny, it was a bit difficult to play with the court being a bit slippery from the ice, but in the end we managed to work thourgh that and have a good fight."  -- Mugurel
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt James Morrison (Nov 30) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Felt like today's match was played at the North Pole. Absolutely freezing. I managed to hit my spots well on the court and hit a fair amount of winners. That helped as I wasn't running as much as I usually would with court being frosty. Thanks for the match James in tricky conditions, onto the next one. "  -- Darren
Reveal CommentMugurel Chirica bt James Morrison (Nov 23) 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "The last set was quite challenging for both with the heavy rain, but we decided to continue the fight no matter what. In the end it came to a tiebreak for the deciding set and I managed to get past James' defences to win this one. Very close match and a hard fight, really enjoyed it. "  -- Mugurel
Reveal CommentDarren Pake bt David Brighty (Nov 20) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Nice to get the first match out the way in the winter period (it's freezing). I played a solid match and I think my quick reactions and court coverage were just too fast for David today. Double faults were quite costly for David today also but there were still some nice rallies. Thanks for the match David."  -- Darren
Reveal CommentMugurel Chirica bt David Brighty (Nov 17) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:
