This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

"The all round standard of this group is the best I have been in so far. Every match so far has been a real battle. Maybe because I (just) won the last round everyone is raising there game against me. I am enjoying it"

Ibrahim Mahdi

"The summer league was great fun."

"Well, what can I say? Winning the group was harder than it looks but I really enjoyed it. I'm glad to  win again but the most important thing is that this league still exists. Well done, guys, well done! Thank you and all the best!!"

Petronel Stoian

"May I say how much I am enjoying present series - good competitors, nice people  and we are generally evenly matched. All my matches so far have been close matches"

Thom Kearns

"I really enjoyed the couple of rounds that I played last year; good fun!!  Thanks for organising it all,"

Peter Portway

"It's a brilliant league, and particularly handy as I only live 2 minutes from the Park.  There's quite a range of levels as expected, but it's fun and gives you the incentive to get out there and play.  So I'll definitely be signing up for the next one."

Reveal CommentTanil Patel bt Paul Foley (Dec 3) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "With his third game underway, Tanil was gaining some consistency. It was Paul's first match of this group fixtures. A quick hit about with a few serves got the game underway. Tanil won his service game and took the first break consequent to his service. In this way the set continued and Paul was in need of some form as he had in at the pregame warmup. The second set continued in the same fashion however, in the sixth game, Paul held his serve. Unfortunately it was probably to late and the match ended in a 6-0, 6-1 victory for Tanil."  -- Tanil

Player Comments:

  • "Really good game with Valda, once we was warmed up we hit some amazing rallies together and had a competitive match. Jake"  -- Jake
Reveal CommentTanil Patel bt Christophe Michaud (Nov 26) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was a pleasant day but the same couldn't be said for the courts. The courts proved to be slippery and the glare was at times unbearable. Christophe won the toss and elected for Tanil to serve. The first game was underway. Consistent serving proved beneficial allowing Tanil to take the opening game. The set proceeded in similar fashion for both players until Tanil was able to break Christophe creating the distance to win the set. There was some great shots from both players which would hopefully setup for a similarly good match up in the next set. The second set didn't disappoint with both players making great efforts. Tanil however was more consistent giving him the end victory. "  -- Tanil
Reveal CommentTanil Patel bt Valda Kampf (Nov 20) 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "It was a cold and wet day. The match had been scheduled for 10am at Roe Green Park. After a slight delay the two opponents met beginning with a quick warm up, if this was even possible in such temperatures. Valda won the toss and opted to serve. As the game continued, it was evident that Valda's consistency proved crucial in keeping the pressure on Tanil. The first set was eventually won by Tanil and the 2nd set was were Valda took on another level. She was leading. Tanil had to dig deep and found some form to close the 2nd set concluding the game. Approaching the net, both players smiling, acknowledged the weather and the effort each person had put in to deal with the adverse conditions. "  -- Tanil
