This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

Collapse AllHighbury Fields Singles - Round 57 | Thursday 8 February 2018 to Wednesday 11 April 2018 (Midpoint: Sunday 11 March 2018)

Over 60% of matches played in a very wintry round in Highbury Fields, which is testament to your great commitment to getting matches played whatever the weather. There was some fantastic tennis on display throughout the groups and congratulations go to those who clinched the top spots. Hope to see you next time!

Group Summary:

Numerous three setters in a highly competitive group one where just a single point separated the first and fourth place. Daniel, Rick and Emil finished on eight points apiece to make it a three horse race for the title. Daniel may have missed out on his bonus points but he made up for this on the court with some terrific tennis earning him wins in all four of his matches and this was enough to secure the prize once the tiebreak rules were applied (when the tied players can't be split by head to head record, bonus points are deducted!). Rick nips in ahead of Emil to take the silver, for the second round in a row, thanks to his hard fought win in their head to head. Well played all.

Group Summary:

A fantastic show of commitment and organisation from group two with nearly every match played and all bonus prizes earned - round of applause to you all. Aris didn't put a foot wrong in what was the standout performance of the round, as he recorded a stunning seven wins to cross the line in first. Group Summary:

Harry and Sean renewed their rivalry in this round and once again their was very little to choose between the pair with both players recording five fantastic wins and bonus points to finish level on twelve points at the top. There was nothing separating the two on the court either with only a point here and theree making the difference as Harry came through their "incredibly close match" 7-5 7-6 to take pole position this time. It was so great to see so many classic contests on the scoreboard which made it difficult for us to choose the match of the group.

Rob has every shot - slice, top spin etc etc and when he connected well with the ball I was in trouble. The shot of the match was a massive first serve from Rob that 1st landed behind my baseline and then bounced over the fence onto the field behind, ending up somewhere near Brighton I think. Group Summary:

Nick's excellent ability to "put away any short ball which came his way" saw him secure four wins and this combined with scheduling prowess proved to be a recipe for success as he moved into pole position. Ireo once again found himself in the mix for the prize but despite beating Nick with a strong performance, a lack of bonus points means he has to settle for silver this time. A shame to see Salim withdraw - hope you're ok.

Ben joined Dylan on ten points at the top and crucially pipped Dylan to the winners post in their tight head to head 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 to narrowly become the new champ.
