Reveal CommentRoland Gurney bt Winston Balfourth (Jan 2) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A great match with lots of long rallies. Winston got stronger as the match went on and the second set was very tight. Really enjoyed the battle and looking forward to playing again. "  -- Roland
Reveal CommentWinston Balfourth bt Zafar Iqbal (Dec 22) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Amazing to play Zafar. We have known each other for many years playing in local parks tennis. Despite the scoreline the game was far more competitive with some great rallies. Zafar producing some great serving and volleying. Pleasure playing again Zafar and look forward to our next encounter."  -- Winston

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentWinston Balfourth bt Gilles Malandain (Dec 4) 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "Two weeks to complete a great match. The first week I won the first set but found myself 2-5 and 15-30 down when the lights went out. We returned this week and Gilles quickly wrapped up the second set and raced into a 4-1 final set lead. I hauled him back and was up 5-4 only to be broken for 5-5. Gilles then held his serve to go 6-5 up. I held for 6-6. The tie break was very much a tooth and nail affair. Neither of us managing to get ahead until I pulled ahead at 4-3. I managed to get 6-3 up before Gilles hauled me back and a breathtaking final rally saw me scurry towards the net and put an angled pass out of Gille's reach. This match really could have gone either way. Thanks again Gilles "  -- Winston
Reveal CommentRoland Gurney bt George Pugh (Dec 1) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Some great rallies on a soggy Wednesday eve. Lots of close games and I had the home court advantage. George had an unfortunate slip in the second set which understandably made him a bit cautious about his movement so the second set score is a bit misleading. Competitive match and would love to play again. "  -- Roland
Reveal CommentRoland Gurney bt Zafar Iqbal (Nov 24) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "I had an unfair advantage by playing at my club on a surface that was new to Zafar. We had a lot of good rallies and the score was a bit flattering on my part. I definitely had to earn it and I left dripping in sweat. Great game and Zafar was great to play."  -- Roland
Reveal CommentRoland Gurney bt Gilles Malandain (Nov 21) 6-4, 6-0

  • "First time playing Joshua and it was a real roller coaster of a match and very close! He took the first set really comfortably and I thought a straight sets loss was on the cards! Second set a lot closer and managed to break at 4-4 and then hold my serve. I was 4-1 up in both sets, but John fought back in the first set to win it and I just about managed to hold on to the second one after he levelled it at 4-4.
