"Another occasion to congratulate Nigel and Sally on organizing so brilliantly this friendly tennis competition,"

Phil Zana

"I really enjoyed this round and being able to play several games with other people. Also for the first time, I managed to win a few games. We shared lots of laughs and experiences together. I will def play more :) It just motivates me improve,"

Yading Song

"I have played a wide variety of sporting events and Local Tennis Leagues continues to be one of the best run competitions I have played in. Enjoyed the company of everyone I played and the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre is more than worth the journey to get there,"

Bruce Stallard

Great fun, thoroughly enjoyed each match. You did a good job in placing us with competitors of similar ability,"

Nick Mayes

"I thoroughly enjoyed your  organization, the venues, my opponents and the matches. I will definitely  play in the future. For now the seniors tour starts and it would be too  difficult to combine both. However, I will be back later this year. Thanks  for your work providing a great tournament,"

Bruce Stallard

"Fantastic, a lot of fun. At the beginning I was a bit worried about maybe being in the wrong group, but the matches got much harder by the end and I earned a lot of match experience. Thought the communication between you guys and the players was top notch as well. Definitely signing up to the next round and looking really forward to the new challenges of a tougher group!"

Player Comments:

  • "What a match. 10 mins before match I caught my finger in a door and had to play without a backhand. First set Ivan played very smart hitting to backhand side and tempting me to run around to leave wide open space. He served very well and I was having trouble with my toss due to the finger. Second set through everything at it running around all balls and trying to be more aggressive. Played a tie break due to time issues. Tie break was tense with me taking the early lead but Ivan taking it due to his incredible patience. Credit to him it's not easy playing against an injury and his tactics were excellent. For me taking the second set was a good moment considering my situation. Congratz! "  -- James

Reveal CommentWinston Balfourth bt David Arnaud (Jul 3) 6-0, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "It's been a long time since we played our last league match. Then it was extremely windy and the conditions appeared to be similar at the start but got progressively better as the match wore on. In the first set I hit the ground running and got off to a flyer. The second set was a very different story. From 2-1 up to Dave winning three successive games I was 4-2 down. Cue game 7 or as we called it groundhog day. There were at least 15 deuces and the game went on for well over 15 minutes. It proved to be the pivotal game of the match with me just about winning it. All of the games were close but I managed to shade the ret of the set. Definitely a great person to play and play again we will. Best of luck in your next matches David."  -- Winston

I was then leading 5-2 and Tamzin being such a tough competitor, broke me and held her serve. Which means I had to serve out the match at 5-4. At 15-30 and me serving for the match, another break of serve was glaring at me. As we all know, we don’t want to get to 5-5, when leading the set at 5-2 with 2 breaks at hand. I just about managed to serve serve it out for 6-4. Always a pleasure play Tamzin. This match could have easily gone either way. Very happy to get over the line. Player Comments:

  • "A very enjoyable match - after a short pause for rain at the beginning of set two, Neryus started the second set strongly by winning the first three games. I managed to pull it back to 4-4. At 5-5, Neryus broke my serve, and stepped up to serve for the set, and with all the momentum, was likely to take the set. But I put up a good fight, and broke back, and it went to tiebreak. The tiebreak was just as intense. With the final tiebreak score at 7-5, it all came down to the final few points! Great match - looking forward to the next one!!"  -- Sam
