Revision information
Provide an explanation of the changes you are making. This will help other authors understand your motivations.

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

If there is anything else you need help with get in contact with Nigel, Sally and the team who will be happy to help!

"I thoroughly enjoyed your  organization, the venues, my opponents and the matches. I will definitely  play in the future. For now the seniors tour starts and it would be too  difficult to combine both. However, I will be back later this year. Thanks  for your work providing a great tournament,"

Bruce Stallard

"I really enjoyed this round and being able to play several games with other people. Also for the first time, I managed to win a few games. We shared lots of laughs and experiences together. I will def play more :) It just motivates me improve,"

Yading Song

"I have played a wide variety of sporting events and Local Tennis Leagues continues to be one of the best run competitions I have played in. Enjoyed the company of everyone I played and the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre is more than worth the journey to get there,"

Bruce Stallard

"Thanks for organising this new league - it was a good way to keep playing through the winter and I also met 2 players I could play with regularly,"

Benjamin C

"I'm about to finish my second round and would like to say thank you to the organisers. I think they do a terrific job, everything goes so smoothly like arranging games, submitting scores etc. Participating in the league gave me a taste of competitive tennis and I think I learned a lot of tennis etiquette and thanks to some great opponents learned to enjoy the game even if you are winning or losing!"

Daniel Ion

"Fantastic, a lot of fun. At the beginning I was a bit worried about maybe being in the wrong group, but the matches got much harder by the end and I earned a lot of match experience. Thought the communication between you guys and the players was top notch as well. Definitely signing up to the next round and looking really forward to the new challenges of a tougher group!"

Reveal CommentZafar Iqbal bt Ivan Georgiev (Mar 19) 6-0, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Played on a very windy Sunday morning. Ivan found the wind difficult to adjust to making a lot of errors which helped me to take the first set in record quick time! But as always Ivan came back fighting in the 2nd set, with more longer rallies and less unforced errors. I managed to hold off Ivans challenge taking the set 7-5. Nice to win a slightly easier match compared to our previous two encounters. Thanks Ivan. "  -- Zafar
Reveal CommentZafar Iqbal bt Phil Zana (Mar 12) 5-7, 6-4, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Another great game of tennis with Phil. Same scenario as last time with Phil taking the first set and and at 4-4 in the 2nd i had to dig deep to take it 6-4. There were some memorable rallies in between points with every onch of court being covered. I think i must have driven phil mad with my drop shots followed up with a lob which were very successful for me. The efforts of the first two sets had taken a lot of steam out of phil which showed in the decider. Phil as always very gracious in defeat. Thanks phil."  -- Zafar

Player Comments:

  • "Great match against Zafar, two hours not enough to decide it (third set 2:3 40:40). Zafar started well in the first set, I improved in the second, and the third set was in the balance when we ran out of time. Looking forward to finishing the match, it was fun! "  -- David
Reveal CommentZafar Iqbal bt Anthony Aikulola (Mar 2) 6-4, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "Anthony had the better start in both sets going up 4-1 and 5-2 respectively. But i hung in there and slowly clawed my way back in both sets taki g them 6-4, 7-5. Also Anthony was hampered by a previous ankle injury which didnt help his cause. It was still a good competitive match with some great rallies. Thanks Anthony. "  -- Zafar

Player Comments:

  • "What an EPIC match!!! I kept my cool in the first set and broke Stefano when he was serving to stay in the set and I won it 6-4! He won the second set comfortably...he was just hitting amazing winners and I had no answer. Then the 3rd set...i raced to a 4-1 lead and Stefano won 3 games in a row to level at 4-4 I was serving for the set at 5-4 and he broke again to level 5-5...I had to dig deep and eventually won the set 7-5. Thanks for a great match Stefano !"  -- Abisola

  • "A great match with insane rallies and crazy shots! Abi levelled to 4 all in the first set but I managed to hold nerves and close the first set. Second set seemed one way ticket to 3rd set for abi as I fell 3-0 before then switching and winning 6 games in a row. I really enjoyed this match!thank you Abi"  -- Marco

Reveal CommentBertie Stephens v Stefano Franzoso (Mar 11) 5-7, 6-1, 5-4 TBC

Player Comments:

  • "A great match so far, but sadly ending on a break of serve at 5-4 to make way for a kids tennis lesson, (like all Wimbledon finals have been known to be interrupted in the past). Almost every game went to deuce and many breaks of service; with the players needing to return to finish the match, there's no guarantee it will be over in one game. "  -- Bertie
Reveal CommentBertie Stephens bt Patrick Killing (Mar 11) 6-1, 7-6 (7-5)

Player Comments:

  • "Crazy game. The first set score is one sided but the match (and that set) certainly wasn't. In the second set, Killing raced to a 5-1 lead before somehow Stephens managed to edge back to 5-5. Killing broke for 6-5, with Stephens breaking back to take it to a tie-break. Stephens then led 5-1 in the tie break, before Killing levelled it at 5-5. Two lucky points later and the whirlwind match was over. Great fun, if not a bit fortunate for Stephens! "  -- Bertie

Reveal CommentPatrick Killing bt Abisola Shoyemi (Mar 4) 6-3, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Another great match against Abi. The score line really doesn't reflect the match as basically every game went to deuce. Game two alone included 12(!) deuces and others got close to that figure. I simply got lucky to win more of those games in the end. Always a pleasure and good fun to play Abi though!"  -- Patrick

Martha did not make it easy for me and the score does not reflect the long rallies Martha and I got to play, especially in the beginning of the second set where it was harder and harder for me to win my serve.
