"I have played a wide variety of sporting events and Local Tennis Leagues continues to be one of the best run competitions I have played in. Enjoyed the company of everyone I played and the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre is more than worth the journey to get there,"

Bruce Stallard

"Another occasion to congratulate Nigel and Sally on organizing so brilliantly this friendly tennis competition,"

Phil Zana

"Thanks for organising this new league - it was a good way to keep playing through the winter and I also met 2 players I could play with regularly,"

Benjamin C

"I thoroughly enjoyed your  organization, the venues, my opponents and the matches. I will definitely  play in the future. For now the seniors tour starts and it would be too  difficult to combine both. However, I will be back later this year. Thanks  for your work providing a great tournament,"

Bruce Stallard

"I'm about to finish my second round and would like to say thank you to the organisers. I think they do a terrific job, everything goes so smoothly like arranging games, submitting scores etc. Participating in the league gave me a taste of competitive tennis and I think I learned a lot of tennis etiquette and thanks to some great opponents learned to enjoy the game even if you are winning or losing!"

Daniel Ion

"I really enjoyed this round and being able to play several games with other people. Also for the first time, I managed to win a few games. We shared lots of laughs and experiences together. I will def play more :) It just motivates me improve,"

Player Comments:

  • "An early start for my final match after an enjoyable couple of weeks, with a complete reverse of my previous form in earlier rounds. I'm glad we were not on court 6 where some insane hitting practice was underway, or court 1 where a possessed squirrel had taken a dislike to something. Thanks Harry for the game and good luck with your remaining matches. Thanks also to everyone in the group for all the games, great to get these organised and played, and looking forward to playing some more games outside the league."  -- Chris
Reveal CommentChris Burlton bt Joshua Roebuck (Sep 15) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely to play at a new venue, Joshua and I had an enjoyable game and momentum shifted in the first set after some great hitting - I had to cut out the errors to regain control. Hope to have another game at Walthamstow in the near future and hope the rest of your matches go well Josh. Many thanks for the game."  -- Chris
Reveal CommentChris Burlton bt John Sanfey (Sep 14) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the game John, tricky conditions with a slippery court today, so keeping the ball in play without turning an ankle was the main aim of the game. We had some good groundstroke exchanges and we continued to hit cross court afterwards to drill those shots. Unfortunately I think all that hitting may have finally seen off my racket which has started to warp out of all recognition. Best of luck with your remaining games John."  -- Chris
Reveal CommentElliot Dodds bt Zhan Sheng Low (Sep 12) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Really nice friendly game with some great rallies even though neither of us could smash for the life of us... Thanks Zhan"  -- Elliot
Reveal CommentChris Burlton bt Elliot Dodds (Sep 9) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Elliot got off to a great start and I had to change to a more patient approach fairly quickly to avoid going 3-0 behind, rallying from the back rather than coming in and being passed at the net. I don't think the windy conditions helped either of us and this made things fairly difficult too. The final score line is not representative of how closely fought the subsequent games were, often going to deuce with just one or two points (including some luck) being the difference. A tough 90 minutes in the end and I look forward to another game in better conditions! Well played and best of luck with your remaining games."  -- Chris
Reveal CommentChris Burlton bt Arthur Leymonie (Sep 5) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "The sun was out and Bert and Ernie were running a half-marathon around the tennis courts. Some things you cannot really un-see. We had a good game and a great effort by Arthur after a six week absence, the fitness will come back to keep in those long rallies and I'm sure we'll have a much closer game once you have got back into it. Thanks for the game and enjoy your remaining matches!"  -- Chris
Reveal CommentChris Burlton bt Zhan Sheng Low (Sep 4) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Great to get the first game played, the highlights reel would mainly include Matt plastering multiple unreturnable forehand winners down the line. Lots of close games, just a bit more consistency and the score line would have been very different. An enjoyable afternoon, thanks for the game and good luck with your remaining matches."  -- Chris

The second set I managed to cut down on unenforced errors and see the match out but it was a lot closer than the score would suggest. Reveal CommentTamzin Ámin bt Kurt Williams (Sep 29) 4-6, 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "What a match! 3 hours plus of good tennis! Kurt came out of the blocks very strong. Some very impressive play saw Kurt take the first set. The second set felt a bit like a reversal of the first, again it was full of lovely exchanges and solid hitting from us both. Having gone up 2-0 in the third, some superb forehand winners saw Kurt break back and get the lead. From there, I was playing catch up in the set. I got a bit of luck at the 5-4 game since it was not the best end to be serving from. Having levelled at 5 all, from there it was just a point or two that was the difference. A pleasure to play with Kurt as always, we had such fun despite the close nature of the match. I look forward to getting back out on the court again."  -- Tamzin

I am a tad bit disappointed, since I lost the second set while serving for the second set, I am happy for Kurt, as he is such a competitor and loves being on the court. Thanks Kurt."  -- Nihar

Reveal CommentTamzin Ámin bt Sam Armenta Butt (Sep 5) 6-3, 2-6, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Like our match in the previous round, this one proved to be an epic. I started stronger this time round, the sunny and relatively wind-free Lee Valley conditions, allowing me to play a strong offensive game. With some great play from Sam in the second, we found ourselves at one set all. The final set might have seemed like a foregone conclusion at 5-1, but Sam dug in, saving a couple of match points and levelled the score at 5-5. One or two points from there was all the difference, and it could easily have gone the other way. It was a pleasure to share the court with Sam, and I look forward to playing again. "  -- Tamzin

But thankfully no fire other than behind some of Reg's serves. We will definitely have to play again as I feel there was so much more to come, at least we could have a laugh and no one fell over. We're getting in the groove now this being our fourth match as a pair, and both Amy and Olly improved throughout the evening, with some impressive hitting and a closely fought additional set at the end. A pleasure to meet you both and hope you enjoy your remaining matches."  -- Chris

Player Comments:

  • "This was an epic two-hour battle, I am not quite sure how we managed to come out on top after being 3-1 behind (1st set) and 5-1 behind (2nd set), we just tried to keep ourselves in every point for as long as possible. David and Sam did put an end to a few of our long rallies with some sublime winners down the line. And trying to return George's serve was a challenge all in itself, Sam essentially just mopping up anything and everything at the net. A great game of tennis which could have easily gone to three sets. Best of luck with your remaining matches and look forward to our next game whenever that may be!"  -- Chris
