Player Comments:

  • "Always a pleasure to play Darryl! Darryl blasted out of the blocks and took a 4-1 lead I fought back to make it 4-4 and then broke his serve at 6-5 to win the first set. In the second set Darryl ran out of steam a little enabling me to win 6-0. Good luck with your remaining matches Daz and Leicester City will easily stay up!"  -- Thomas
Reveal CommentPaul Richmond bt Owain Ford (Mar 5) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "The first two games took 15 minutes so it looked as though this would be a long match, but a couple of crucial net cords helped me to get away and take the set, although Owain was playing well and hitting winners. Owain was struggling with an injury in the second set so found it difficult to string points together and I won the remaining games from 1-1 to finish the match. Hope you're not suffering too much mate and good luck in the next one."  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "Extremely tight first set with myself only edging it 6-4. In the second set, Edward started to experiment with tactics which I took advantage of coming out 6-0 to win the match overall. Nice to play Edward again looking forward to the rematch! "  -- Thomas
Reveal CommentOwain Ford bt Aaron Darby (Feb 28) 1-6, 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Well I thought I was done for after the first set went to Aaron 6-1. The games were very competitive though and a fair few deuce games so I thought I had a glimmer of hope. Second set started well with me edging those deuce games with a bit more power and edging a service game after 3 breaks of serve. I saw the set out in another deuce game. It came down to those big points in the end and I was really blowing through my lunges in the third set. I was comfortable though at 5-2, only to take my foot off and lose an end with Aaron playing some great shots to get it back to 5-4. I was determined to see it through though and the last game was an amazing effort by us both, great tennis. Thanks for coming and playing in the wet. See you soon. ?"  -- Owain
Reveal CommentOwain Ford bt Vinay Vaghela (Feb 27) 7-6 (8-6), 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I need a large warm drink. Near freezing temperatures tonight but great to get this match played. Thanks for coming all the way over Vinay. I’ll come to yours next time for the rematch. First set could not have been closer, I was digging deep and Vin was slapping his forehand down the line past me a lot. It was on a knife edge and the tiebreak couldn’t have been closer at 6-6. Little bit of luck for me and I managed to win it. The second set I raced ahead to 4-1, but again, every game was up for grabs. One break of serve was all it took. Could easily have gone the other way. A cracking match on a chilly evening. "  -- Owain
Reveal CommentOwain Ford bt Edward Morgan (Feb 26) 3-6, 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "The first set was pretty even and I just couldn’t get any rhythm. Ed played really well despite the sunny conditions and took the set handsomely. A change of racket and the sun going in helped a lot in the second and third set as I started to hit with more purpose and managed to edge all the deuce games. The score isn’t a true reflection, as every game was up for grabs but a switch went off in my head and I just started to play better. Slowly slowly I’m starting to come back into my own. Thanks for the match Ed. "  -- Owain
Reveal CommentPaul Richmond bt Thomas Meakin (Feb 25) 5-7, 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "This match was always destined to be long as Tom and I have similar styles, but it turned into a 2 hour grind. I found myself a break down for most of the first set before levelling at 5-5. Tom then broke and held to take the set. I played better in the second set but the score didn't reflect the actual play as most of the games were very close. The third set was brutal and took 50 minutes to get through with multiple deuces on most games. I eventually won 6-3 although it was never comfortable. We both agreed that no-one would ever pay to watch us play unless they were suffering from insomnia, but it was still a great match to play in and I'm looking forward to the next one."  -- Paul
Reveal CommentAaron Darby bt Vinay Vaghela (Feb 25) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "This was a great match which could have gone either way in the end. I started strong going 3-0 up but then Vinay brought it right back to 3-2 but I managed to maintain the break to take the first. Second set binary started better and it only took one break at 3-2 for me to take the match. Both sets were full of long games with several deuces well played looking forward to a rematch "  -- Aaron

Reveal CommentPaul Richmond bt Edward Morgan (Feb 21) 6-2, 3-6, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Me and Ed had a great hit in near perfect conditions. Ed started slowly in the first set and I managed to put together a few consecutive games to win 6-2. Ed really tightened up his game in the second set making very few mistakes, and deservedly took it 6-3. I had to change tactics in the third set to play more agressively, as Ed had been winning most of the long rallies. The set was nowhere near as comfortable as the score suggests, as half the games went to deuce, and it was just that I managed to win most of the key points. Good luck in the rest of your matches mate, and I look forward to playing again."  -- Paul
Reveal CommentVinay Vaghela bt Darryl Clarke (Feb 19) 6-1, 2-6, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "What a rollercoaster of a match! 3rd time playing Darryl and losing on the previous 2 occasions, I know I had to improve my game. I took the 1st set but I knew Darryl always fights back and he proved this in the 2nd set with a 6-2 win. The final set was 2-2 and I managed to take the lead. What a tough player Darryl is, I always look forward to playing him! Good luck with the rest of your games mate! "  -- Vinay

  • "It was a tight first set till I broke at 5-5, serving out the set to take it 7-5. Second set Owain tired a little and I ran out a comfortable 6-2 winner to take the match overall. Good luck in your remaining matches Owain."  -- Thomas
Reveal CommentPaul Richmond bt Aaron Darby (Feb 15) 3-6, 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Aaron played the first set really well, dominating the rallies and hitting winners for fun, and I wasn't really in the match at all. But tennis is a strange game and after holding and breaking in the second set I somehow raced away to take it to a decider, and then took the third set for a win that I'm not sure I fully deserved. Neither of us could work out what had changed apart from maybe Aaron started to have problems with his serve while mine improved. Great to see you again Aaron, and we'll sort out a friendly once I've got through a few more league matches."  -- Paul

Player Comments:

  • "Fantastic game Ed! 3rd time playing Ed and today was not his day. The first set was tight, going to a few deuce games. The second set, Ed decided to switch his racket and started strongly. Overall, I managed to take the win but a great effort by Ed. I know next time you'll come back stronger! Thanks for hosting and good luck for the remaining games."  -- Vinay

  • "I have played Daz a few times now and they are always marathon matches and this was no different. I started really well and took the first set before having to turn the lights on. Daz played better in the second set and changed the way he was playing which definately worked. The decider was a rollercoaster Daz won the first 2 games then I won the next 3. Great match full of long rallies and quite a few deuces throughout. Well played mate until next time good luck in your remainder"  -- Aaron

Player Comments:

  • "Absolutely battle between me and Adam today on the clay at Carisbrooke in perfect winter conditions. Adam raced ahead to take the first set 6-2 but I dusted myself down and took an early break in the second set going on to win 6-4. In the third set, we were inseparable until the tie break where I went on to win 7-1. Gaining my first victory against Adam since joining the league! Looking forward to the rematch in the next round!"  -- Thomas

Player Comments:

  • "This was an epic match which lasted over a week!!! To be fair to Ed he should have won it a week ago having had 3 match points but I managed to take it to a tie break and take control. Due to lights and time we had to carry it over to this week. Ed played incredibly well throughout and I enjoy our matches. I was a lot more aggressive today to complete the deciding set, we then played 2 friendly sets which went one a piece . Well played mate onto the next one and we’ll play again soon ?"  -- Aaron

Player Comments:

  • "This was one of the closest matches I've played yet. Most games in the first set went to deuce and we inevitably ended up in a tiebreak. This was also close but I just managed to grab the set 10-8. The second set was very similar with close games but I managed to win more of the key points to take a 5-1 lead. Vinay then came back to 5-3 before I held on to win. Great match Vinay. I really enjoyed the hit and look forward to playing you again."  -- Paul

Reveal CommentEdward Morgan bt Darryl Clarke (Jan 28) 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "This one was almost certainly going Darryl's way as he was firing on all cylinders in the first 2 sets. I had no flow, felt clunky and deservedly lost the first 3-6. I decided to switch rackets and played a bit better as a result, however, Darryl broke my serve at 3-3 in the 2nd to go 3-4 up and then won his service to go 3-5 up. I won my service to get 4-5, but he had two match points in his service game bit I managed to cling on to get my first break on him to 5-5. We ended the set on a tie breaker and I took it 7-4. But Darryl started to show signs of a back problem and was struggling from then on. I offered to stop but he said no. But he wasn't able to hit it as hard and I managed to get a win. You deserved the win in this one mate!"  -- EDWARD

Chris was very consistent from the get go whereas I was out of sorts and Chris deservedly got the double break, at 2-5 I finally found my rhythm and managed to win some marathon games to take it to tie break. 2nd set was a real battle with lots of lung busting rallies, I don't how we found the energy to play a friendly 3rd set! Thanks for hosting today mate, look forward to playing again soon. "  -- Lin

Player Comments:

  • "Another great game with Jo. Matched very evenly in the first set, so that at 4-4, there was a decisive game in which if Jo broke serve , he would probably have won the set and got the upper-hand. Fortunately, for me, I held serve, putting the pressure on Jo to also hold serve. Finished tightly but with that break I took the first set 6-4. Second started close with both of us needing to hold serve which we did to go 1-1 and then 2-1 to me. Here I got a crucial break of serve giving me the chance to break away early on and go 3-1 up. The match continued with many long rallies till I won that set 6-1. Well played Jo. Hope to play another game with you before long."  -- Tim

Player Comments:

  • "The match was played on a rainy Wednesday evening at Victoria Park. The match duration was around one hour and twelve minutes. My motivation for today’s match was to improve on my last meeting with Sanoj from a previous round when I was beaten in straight sets at Victoria Park. I had already beaten Sanoj in our first local tennis leagues encounter at Abbey Park so I was hopeful of getting something out of today’s match. I tried my best and it went my way although by no means was this an easy victory. Lots of deuces as well as plenty of long, exciting and energising rallies. My opponent should definitely be proud because I was made to work for today’s win so I was no doubt impressed at how well he battled. Good luck Sanoj for future matches!"  -- Mayur

  • "This match was played on a cool Thursday evening at Victoria Park. I ended up guessing wrong on the coin toss and started off as the receiver. Set one was an alright performance by both players. Shankar did really great to get on the scoreboard quite early in the opening set. I tried to end points as quickly as possible for the sake of efficiency. A combination of mistakes by me and mesmerising tennis by my opponent resulted in a two game concession in set one. I lost just the one single game late in set two and I am pleased to have got the straight sets victory. There were times during match play when I double faulted on serve a couple of times in a row following them up with a couple of aces in a row. Good luck Shankar for future matches!"  -- Mayur

Player Comments:

  • "The match was played under the floodlights at Victoria park on a Friday late in the day. The match duration was a solid one hour and nine minutes. Shivan won the coin toss and chose to receive then after a five minute warm up we got started. Shivan who was down 4-1 did really well to get back into set one by winning the next three out of four games. I got myself ever so slightly ahead at five-four in set one then broke serve to close it out. Set two I guess I improved. Lots of deuces in both sets. I thought my opponent deserved more out of the match but my persistence in getting tennis balls back in play in addition to extending long rallies by staying in each point when possible made me the victor. Good luck for future matches" -- Mayur

  • "This match was played on quite a chilly Saturday late in the day. The match duration was one hour and one minute. Nigel invited me to Victoria Park and he could not have been a friendlier host. My tennis was tested early in set one and throughout set one and it could have swung either way. Thankfully my top spin forehand was effective on occasion and it helped me close out set one in convincing fashion. I started off set two on the front foot but I was honestly stunned by glimpses of a fight back resulting in a game going against me. I did my best to concentrate on playing decent tennis and I had to earn today’s straight sets victory because had I not kept my focus then the result could have slipped away. Good luck Nigel for future matches!"  -- Mayur
