Player Comments:

  • "Tense and tight match full of momentum swings and gruelling rallies! I had a slow start in the first set and Sam raced away to 4:1 lead. I've managed to get close to 5:4, but the set went Sam's way. I've had a great start in the second and won 4 games straight and managed to win the set 6:2 - setting up for a roller-coaster of a decider! I've started well to get 2:0 ahead, then Sam mounted a charge and won 4 games straight to lead 4:2! Somehow I've managed to win the next 4 games and win the set and match! Sam is very tough to beat: consistent, very strong on defence and with good weapons when needed. Thank you for the match Sam - it was tense and very enjoyable! "  -- Pawel

Adam shoot off to an early lead in the first set - I had re-group and serve better to get to 4:4 and get a break of serve to take the first set 6:4. I continued with my good streak of serve games and was able to return better in the second set. Tricky playing conditions with gusty wind blowing across the court. Thanks for the match Adam! I've had some chances to seal the set at 5:4, but in the end it was settled in a tense tie break. In the second set I was able to make some adjustments, improve on many aspects of my game and get some more points from forced errors. We've had some terrific rallies with deep top spin hits, lobs, drop shots and arms stretched out defending. Thanks for a very enjoyable match Corbin and I hope we'll get to play again! "  -- Pawel

Player Comments:

  • "Very tough match in frankly extreme conditions! What started off as playing in a drizzle, ended up at times like playing in a monsoon under floodlights! In the first set it was an even march to 5:5, with some good quality rallies and demanding serving in gusty conditions. I was able to win the last two games and take the set 7:5. In the second set Josef made some really good plays and led 4:2. Somehow I managed to mount a comeback to lead 5:4, couldn't close the set out and we ended tied 6:6. I was lucky to pull away early on and won the tie break 7:2. The match was very tense, conditions were kind of crazy, I broke my strings and had to use a 20 year old racket. Thanks Josef - that was a very memorable match! "  -- Pawel

Player Comments:

  • "This was a really fun and competitive match. I lost a lot of points to Helen’s killer forehand cross-court shots! It was played over two days because of an injury, and the second instalment never reached the same level of intensity - probably because of the awful weather. Helen, I hope we play again and get a full match played in some good conditions. Good luck in your remaining matches."  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentLaura Bell McMillan bt Andrew Murray (Oct 11) 7-6 (7-5), 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Absolutely brilliant game against Andrew, one of the closest and longest I think I’ve ever played! Every point was fought for, even in the second set when we were tiring. So much variation in shots too - which we always seemed to get back and thus rallies were endless at times and very exciting. Lots of skidding onto the shot too playing at Braids TC which is a fake clay surface, which took me a while to get used to but turned out to be very fun! The ball has a slower bounce too so it give you time to get into position and reach those short or wide balls. A great game and I hope to play you again soon Andrew. Good luck in the rest of your matches! "  -- Laura Bell

However, things tightened up dramatically from there with Klara ahead for most of the second set and some long deuce games. This set could have gone either way but I just managed to clinch it at the end. Thanks for a fun match"  -- Pierce
Reveal CommentAndrew Murray bt Scott Runciman (Sep 23) 1-6, 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "This was a fun and competitive match, on a blustery evening. I had home court advantage as it was Scott’s first time on (artificial) clay, but Scott still dominated the first set. There were lots of long rallies and service breaks, and this match could easily have gone either way. Hope to play you again soon Scott."  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentLaura Bell McMillan bt Max Mulholland (Sep 21) 6-4, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "A very even match against Max who is incredibly consistent and we had some very long rallies. It felt almost impossible at times to win a point and he had me on the run in the second set particularly - literally - but also left me 2 games down for much of it. Luckily I made a comeback and was very relieved when Max served a double fault to win me the set and match. A very enjoyable game as always - thank you very much Max and hope to play you again soon!! Player Comments:

  • "It was a really fun outing and certainly the closest tennis match that I’ve ever played. The games and sets all went to the wire.
