Group Summary:

An excellent debut in the North Tyneside round for Kishan who won each of his matches in straight sets. Alan took it to within a couple of points and who knows, if he had played one more match he might have matched Kishan's points total, but even so, this was always going to be Kishan's round!

Player Comments:

  • "Despite the wettest of October's, we managed to find a glorious, sunny day to play this game. Beverley Park provided a cracking venue but both players struggled to find any consistent form with a disappointing number of unforced errors providing the dominant feature of the early exchanges. Many games went to deuce and an equal number went against serve. The tennis improved considerably as the match progressed with some extended rallies and increasingly impressive winners from both players. A tough match which could have gone either way, but on this occasion Craig shaded the victory, probably due to Jonathan's persistent injury problem. A superb morning and an excellent match. Thanks Jonathan."  -- Craig

Match of the Group:

Reveal CommentJonathan Greener bt Chris Stanworth (Oct 2) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Gruelling match played in pleasant autumnal conditions. Chris started the better winning the 1st set and racing into a 3-1 lead in the 2nd. Then I managed to hit a hot streak and take the 2nd set. The third was a close affair with a few deuce games but I managed to see it thru 6-4."  -- Jonathan
Reveal CommentKishan Patel bt Craig Taylor (Sep 28) 6-1, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "This was a really good match between Craig and I on what turned out to be a lovely late September day. The 1st set was short, but the 2nd set went with service games all the way until 4-4, at which point Craig broke me and had a chance to serve for the set, he fell just short and the momentum swung in my favour as I won the last 3 services games to squeeze through the 2nd set, and win the match. There were plenty of fun rallies, although the surface wasn't ideal with me slipping a couple times and Craig actually falling over once (still managing to win the point though!)"  -- Kishan
Alan Gell bt Chris Stanworth (Sep 27) 6-4, 7-5
Reveal CommentKishan Patel bt Chris Stanworth (Sep 23) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Chris and I played on what could well be one of the last decent summer evenings of the year! We had some mighty rallies in which there was a lot of lobs, just as much running and several decent winners. With my consistency I managed to win the match in a score line that didnt quite reflect the day’s play."  -- Kishan
Reveal CommentKishan Patel bt Alan Gell (Sep 18) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Alan and I had a more competitive match than the score line suggests. There were several deuces and a few long rallies which were unpredictable and very fun to be a part of. Looking forward to another match with Alan."  -- Kishan
Reveal CommentChris Stanworth bt Craig Taylor (Sep 16) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable and competitive game with Craig as always in decent September weather. I got off to a slow start with Craig punishing my mistakes to take a 4-1 lead. I managed to up my level and show more consistency than I have recently to take seven straight games after that to go 6-4 2-0 up and was able to see out the second set from there although plenty of those games went to deuce. "  -- Chris

Group Summary:

Another dominant performance in this group with Stephen completing a full house of matches and wins. Peter nearly "jinxed" Stephen's run, coming back from 4-1 down to almost take a set off Stephen at 7-5, but, to mix our sports metaphors, Stephen definitely had the rub of the green this time. Excellent tennis everyone.

Player Comments:

  • "Peter is a really nice chap. We had a very enjoyable game. I was 3 love up early doors, however once Peter got used the surface and Beverley Park he started playing some great tennis. Peter never double faulted once in the entire match and it was a pleasure to watch some a consistent tricky serve. Peter deservedly won the first set. Peter hit some great drop shots on the damp, sandy, Beverley Park court and displayed a great touch. I luckily managed to win the last couple of sets but most of the games were close and really was a pleasure to meet an experienced player like Peter and I learnt a lot. Cheers Peter! Dave "  -- Dave

Reveal CommentDave Lee bt Jonny Corrall (Oct 3) 6-2, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • Jonny is a great lad and we had a good laugh. We have both been playing about 3 months or so, I wouldn't say this was a match with loads of quality but we did have one or two good rallies! A load of games went to deuce so it could have went either way really. Look forward to playing again with Jonny as we embark on our tennis journey!
Reveal CommentStephen Bowens bt Dave Lee (Sep 26) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "This was a really enjoyable game. As me and Dave are both members of Beverley Park tennis club this was somewhat of a local derby. This was Dave’s first competitive game in the league and he acquitted himself well. A lot of the games went to deuce so the result could have looked different on any other day. Thanks for the game Dave and good luck for your remaining games. "  -- Stephen
Reveal CommentPeter McCue bt Jonny Corrall (Sep 25) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Jonny is relativlely new to tennis and the first time he has played in the league but he gave a very good account of himself in a match which was closer than the score suggests. After taking the first set the second was very even with games going against serve till we reached 3-3 . There were many close games and deuces with good rallies before I managed to close the match out at 6-3 Thanks for the game Jonny and good luck with your remaining match "  -- Peter
Reveal CommentStephen Bowens bt Peter McCue (Sep 23) 6-1, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "An enjoyable game played over two days due to rain. Peter jinxed me at 4-1 up in the second set saying I made very few mistakes, cue a total collapse! I managed to rally though and see the game out on on a tiebreak. Thanks for the game Peter and good luck for the rest of your games. "  -- Stephen
Reveal CommentJonny Corrall bt Nicholas Rowe (Sep 22) 7-6 (8-6), 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A strange match in which Nick showed a lot of patience with my novice ways, and even greater patience with my tardiness (Sorry again Nick!) Nicks a little rusty from lack of games, and when paired with my ruthless combination of newby no pacers, moon ballers and weak serve, it meant there wasn't too many great rallies today. After going 5-0 up in the first set, I spectacularly crumbled as Nick gradually improved his consistency and brilliantly fought back for a tiebreak which was closely fought and could have gone either way. Nick took a few nasty tumbles in the second which naturally effected his rhythm, but he bravely soldiered on for what would have been a more closely fought set I suspect. GG Nick! "  -- Jonny
