Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Andrew for the first time. Match played in great spirit on a very cold day. The score line does not reflect how close this match was with many long games going to deuce several times. Look forward to playing Andrew again "  -- Peter
Reveal CommentStephen Bowens bt Monir Ahmed (Nov 26) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Good game with Monir at Beverley Park in perfect conditions if a little chilly. A lot of games went to deuce so the score line flatters a little but it was a good game. "  -- Stephen
Reveal CommentAndrew Chandler bt David Campbell (Nov 24) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "It was a cold morning at Beverley with a stiff northerly breeze blowing. We gradually warmed up, although the jumpers didn’t come off at all. The first set was 4-4 at one stage and very close. I managed to get a couple of breaks in the second set and put a few games on the board. David then pegged me back with some great tennis and excellent drop shots, but I eventually managed to hold serve to see out the game. Well played David. Look forward to a rematch."  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentAndrew Chandler bt Craig Taylor (Nov 22) 6-1, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Blustery weather made for tricky conditions at Beverley today, but it was an enjoyable match nonetheless. The first set was closer than the score suggests and, at 4-4, the second set could have gone either way. Lots of deuce games and some good rallies throughout. Thanks Craig"  -- Andrew
Reveal CommentCraig Taylor bt Stephen Bowens (Nov 16) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Such is the commitment of Stephen Bowens to the art of Tennis that he voluntarily booked a day off work so we could play this match. More than deserving of his bonus points, free balls and a possible future Knighthood! As members of the same club, Steve and I have played many times and he usually beats me. This match appeared to be heading the same way as he took quite a closely fought first set 6-2. Lots of deuce games but the key points generally went Steve's way. This was somewhat disappointing for me as I felt I was playing better than I had in a long time. The 2nd and 3rd sets were equally competitive but this time, in the gathering darkness and cold rain, I managed to sneak a few more of the key points. Cracking match. Cheers Steve. "  -- Craig
Reveal CommentPeter Orchard bt Craig Taylor (Nov 14) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Lucky to get a break in the rain to get this match played. Thanks to Craig for playing. This was a much closer match than the score suggests , with lots of games going to deuce several times. Good luck for the rest of the tournament Craig "  -- Peter
Reveal CommentStephen Bowens bt Andrew Chandler (Nov 12) 6-3, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Me and Andrew are both members of Beverly Park so have played together a few times and it’s always an enjoyable game. Andrew’s a fit lad and never gives up on a point. That couples with his telescopic reach means he’s a tricky opponent. It was my day today but it was closer than it looks as a lot of games went to deuce. Good luck for your remaining games Andrew. Player Comments:

  • "In the first set I caught Andrew a bit off guard with some of my best serving for awhile. The score line doesn’t tell the whole picture though as three of the games went to deuce. In the second set, Andrew adjusted well and raced to a 4-1 lead. I was able to regain my composure and get the score to 5-5 before two good games to take the set 7-5. Good luck with your other matches. "  -- Simon

Player Comments:

  • "A topsy-turvy match in trying conditions that started out freezing, elevated to gusty then finished with a dazzling low sun that made returning on one side of the court a burden to all. Nick raced to a 5-1 lead in the first set, which set the tone for a spluttering comeback. A great game that ended in some pretty tired limbs all round. "  -- Gareth
Reveal CommentRichard Hammond bt James Sainter (Dec 11) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Bizarrely sunny and hot(ish) morning for tennis, James held serve on the opening game, followed by a series of double faults fron me, it wasn't looking too promising, but somehow it turned around. Plenty of fun rallies and net play, both enjoyed it. "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentFrancisco Benitez bt James Sainter (Dec 10) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "First game at David LLoyd Newcastle which is a great place for indoor tennis with carpet courts. A tentative start from both sides, particularly from me as the court conditions were completely new to me. James managed to take many points in his serve games but key ones fell to my side. In the second set, after having warmed up, James applied a full-blown serve that I struggle to return from my backhand but I could keep some composture to see the set out despite a few games going to deuce and some quality rallies that made the game even more fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it, many thanks, James for arranging and good luck for your futures matches."  -- Francisco

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Nick for the first time this evening. Nick got off to a flying start in the first set as I struggled to get to grips with the clay surface. Nick punished me with some fantastic drop shots and tricky manoeuvres and broke me a couple of times to comfortably win the set. By the second set I regained some composure and got my footing to take the set then kept up the momentum to take the third. Some great rallies and winners from both sides. Well played, Nick! All the best for your last matches. "  -- Jake
Reveal CommentRichard Hammond bt Nick Davies (Nov 21) 6-3, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "First set we exchanged games until 3-3 when I seemed to find my range and pulled ahead to win 6-3. Starting the second set I naively thought I'd just play the same and cruise to glory, Nick must have eaten a pack of Haribo at the changeover though because he came out with a boatload of energy and aggression, chasing every ball down and flat out refusing to lose a point. At 4-4 Nick took the lead for the first time and was serving at 5-4 when we got kicked off the court after 2hrs. A new venue a week later and I was hitting the ball better, and Nick less so, luckily allowing me to win 3 in a row for 7-5. A close and intense match with loads of fun rallies and varied tennis. "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentJake Clark bt Alan Patterson (Nov 19) 7-5, 7-6 (7-4)

Player Comments:

  • "Super close match with Alan this morning. Both sets seem to have swings in momentum and lots of long rallies. At 5-5 in the first set we had a decisive game: probably about 15 deuces, long rallies, winners from both but also some errors on both sides. In the end I managed to clinch it and then the next to take the set. The second set was similarly close throughout. Alan got ahead 5-4 and it looked like it was going to a third set before I managed to break serve and go on to clinch the tie break. Genuinely could have gone either way. Well played and I look forward to the next time, Alan! "  -- Jake
Reveal CommentFrancisco Benitez bt Alan Patterson (Nov 17) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Great game played in better spirit at Gosforth Garden Village in the blinding morning sun on heavily damped courts that made conditions very particular and my better adaptation today inclined the game to my side. Alan couldn't get into the rallies as he struggle to rightly judge distance and height of ball bounces due to these conditions. He fought back in every game and led some to deuce as the game progressed but score line was too harsh on him. After the game, we played a friendly set and he came a lot closer and we were able to enjoy longer rallies and a well contested tennis. Best of luck for the remainder of this madly balanced round!"  -- Francisco
Reveal CommentNick Davies bt James Sainter (Nov 17) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Enjoyable, friendly game against James today. James has a fantastic first serve and when he got it in, generally always won the point. Unfortunately for James he threw in a lot of double faults today so the slightly harsh score line reflects this! Good luck for your other matches. "  -- Nick
Reveal CommentAlan Patterson bt James Sainter (Nov 15) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Stepped in at short notice to play James this afternoon. The first game took a long ten minutes with many deuces and winning opportunities for both of us to get off the mark. The next four went over pretty quickly before another long final sixth game, James' strong backhands and serves made if difficult but I finally hit a down the line winner to take the opening set. He then upped his game at the start of the second, serving well to win two games before I started to comeback, matching his effort, to then take an overall win. I know James and this was his league debut, once he gains a bit more experience and finds his consistency he will be a difficult opponent for a lot of people to beat. Good luck in your future matches"  -- Alan
Reveal CommentAlan Patterson bt Richard Hammond (Nov 12) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "On a cold Sunday, met Richard for the first time, blowing leaves off the court! After the much needed warm up, he got off to a flyer, winning the first three games. However mid-way through momentum shifted my way and I was able to capitalize, taking the first set 7-5 . Strangely all afternoon both of us seemed to find winning our service games difficult. With a series of great forehand winners Richard took advantage in the second and took another early lead. The match seemed to have swung back his way, somehow I found a second wind, persevered and earned a 6-3 comeback for an overall win. It was a pleasure to play in such a close match . Good luck with your remaining fixtures Richard and thanks for getting rid of the leaves !"  -- Alan

Player Comments:

  • "Great to meet and play Nick who won the toss and decided to start returning. Nick struggled with my pace in the first set but towards the end started to balance the game to make it more competitive. In the second set, Nick played more aggresively to deservedly keep hold of his first set of the night and take the set to 1-1. After a couple of long games another break let me lead 1-3 but Nick won his second serve game to pressure my serve with 2-3. Fortunately, I kept serving solidly and better return shots gave me the definitive lead to see the set out 2-6. Best of luck for the rest of the round, Nick!"  -- Francisco

  • "Fantastic close match with Richard this morning. This is the third time we’ve played and it’s always been close. In the first set I managed to break a couple of times to go 5-2 up before finishing the set off. The second set had lots of long tight games and some really great rallies. I was up 4-3 before Richard made a comeback to go 5-4 up. The next game was very intense with lots of deuces - I fortunately saved a couple of set points and took the game then managed to win the last couple in a row to see it out. After 2 hours I think we were both pleased it didn’t go to a third! Thanks for the great game, Richard. All the best for your other matches. "  -- Jake

Player Comments:

  • "Fantastic first set with nearly every rally ending with a clean winner from one of us. Loads of net play and long rallies. At 4-4 it could have went either way but I clinched two in a row to seal the set. Second set saw Francisco break to go 3-0 up, a mix of lethal dropshots and low short volleys punishing my legs which were flagging. Luckily from that point the situation flipped and Francisco lost a bit of consistency as I came back online, I was very glad to reach the finish line although I was enjoying the tennis a lot! "  -- Richard

Player Comments:

  • "Great to meet Nick this afternoon for a friendly competitive match. Still pouring down outside so moved the match indoors. New to the league, a tentative Nick, started off well, held his serve and took the opening game. However despite losing my own as the match progressed I warmed up, found a rhythm, cut the errors and took the first set 6-2. Nick used his height to his advantage in the second set, volleying winners and battling to take a couple of games. He has the enthusiasm and determination to do well , with more experience it will be no surprise to me if he goes on and starts winning more games than he loses. Best of luck on your tennis journey ~ Alan"  -- Alan

Player Comments:

  • "Nice to play Jake for the third time and as on previous ocassions it was a very physical game. We both started timidly but I bit more depth and angles in my shots gave me the first lead of 2-0. Then, Jake reacted well to produce some amazing shots that made me move side to side and level the game 2-2. Even though the rest of the set was quite close, I won 4 consecutive games to see it out 6-2. Similar start to the second set that saw me lead 2-0, then excellent level of tennis from Jake who hold the serve to get to 2-1. The key to the set was the fifth game, which went to deuce many times but I managed to take it with a couple of determined approaches to the net. Many thanks, Jake, and good luck for the remainder of the round."  -- Francisco

Player Comments:

  • "Great match at Churchill this afternoon. Right from the start I knew it was going to be tough to play against Jay's consistent game. Somehow I manged to claw back from 5-2 down in the first set to win the tiebreak. The effort must have took its toll as Jay stormed right back to win the next set 6-2 taking us to a second tiebreak and decider. Again I managed to avoid Jay closing out, coming back to win 10-8 and the match. Lots of cagey points, rallies , errors, winners, the lot, all played in a friendly competitive spirit. The whole match was played against the backdrop of non stop heavy rain hitting the roof - a great local indoor facility that really comes into it's own on days like these. Best of luck in your next match Jay."  -- Alan
