This is how it works:

  • We have doubles and singles rounds!
  • Players/teams are organised into groups of between 5 to 9 people of a similar standard
  • The league is mixed sex, so men and women play each other
  • Groups are put together by standard and there can be any combination of men and women in a group (we do not guarantee a balance of men and women and you could be the only man in a group of women or vice versa!)
  • In doubles teams may be any combination of gender
  • Contact details are emailed and posted to each player's account page
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everyone over the age of 18
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group. Contact details are also posted to your Account Page
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • A point is awarded for each set won
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls)
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a voucher for £20 to be spent in the Local Tennis League online shop. A winner's certificate is also available on the winner's Account Page as a PDF file.
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

"Great fun, looking forward to the challenge of the next level up in a few weeks!"

Richard Fowler

"Thanks for your organisation. I’ve really enjoyed the 2 leagues this year,"

Norwich - Stephen Alger

"I thoroughly enjoyed this round, as I have the others. This has been my best year of tennis since school thanks to this league and I've been happy to recommend it to others,"

Mark Waters

"Thanks for the updates, commentaries and scores....a great incentive to get on and play. I was going to wait unitl July to enter but took the plunge after four and a half months off with a back injury so the fitness has gone out the window but I figured, what the heck... make hay while the sun shines besides which I am getting to meet players who enjoy singles!"

Vikki Chubb

"[In my last match] it was nice to see we had both improved from our first match - the benefit of having different people to play and regularly tennis. So thanks for running the league, and for everyone for playing the games,"

Stuart Laws

"That was the best match I've ever been involved in. Thanks so much for running a great league. I'm loving it!"

Graham McGrotty

No quite Wimbledon, but an extremely tight first set in which all the games seemed to be won from one particular end, and neither of us could figure out why! Player Comments:

  • "It was good to see ex-club mate Roberto again. We had a very tiring game on an afternoon that was a lot warmer than it seemed to be. Both sets were close, Roberto was frustrated several times after doing the hard work to get me out of position, and then missing the put-away. If he had made those, it may well have been a different story. Grazie for the match Roberto."  -- Jamie

The first set was one sided but Robert found consistency in his serve and ground strokes in the 2nd and we had plenty of good fun rallies even if quality was low. Some fabulous points contested by both players, and so many memorable shots and rallies. The 1st set appeared comfortable for Stewart, but there were several long deuce points contested, and the score doesn't reflect Belynda's industry . In the 2nd Belynda took the advantage and held on, despite a brave effort from Stewart to claw back a 3 game deficit. Stewart forged ahead early in the 3rd and with both players tiring, had enough just to take another closely fought set. A terrific match, played in great spirit between 2 evenly matched opponents. A great advert for Parks Tennis. "  -- Stewart

Player Comments:

  • "A really entertaining game on a freezing cold night at Eaton Park. Despite our opponents playing with three players (we're counting the net as being on their side!!!) we managed to edge a very tight first set. Richard & Jonny's ability to force the errors and hit great winners ensured they won the match though by taking the next two quite comfortably. Great fun, played in good spirits and looking forward to playing you both again!"  -- Mark

Reveal CommentInga Misane & Mike Dixon bt Sandra O’Neill & Nania Poulson (Nov 10) 7-5, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "In contrary to what score suggests it was very very close game. Even in last set there were regular deuces and very prolonged games. Nania and Sandra style suggested more experience and it was very difficult to make them to to miss difficult shots from oponent, also both were really great at the net. The combination of luck and avoidance of too much risk helped eventually us to win though any next time the outcome may be very different. Thank you Nania and Sandra for the friendly game, it was a pleasure to play with you and good luck for remaining matches.! "  -- Inga

Reveal CommentLiliya Serazetdinova & Linda May bt Julie Rolle & Peter Mundy (Oct 6) 7-6 (7-3), 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "After a couple of issues with the rain - we had to move the match indoors due to the deluge and even then it was touch and go whether we'd be able to play because the roof was leaking badly at David Lloyds. However we finally managed to get under way on the only court that wasn't soaking wet and what a very enoyable time we had. Both sets were tight, the first was very tight with lots of games going to duece. We had some great rallies using allangles the court allows. The score in the second set didn't reflect how close that was as well. The match could have gone either way. Thank you Liliya for finding a court at the 11th hour and thank you Julie and Peter for agreeing to split the costs of the court."  -- Linda
