This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

Player Comments:

  • "An evenly-matched indoor three-setter at Bannatyne's. Plenty of strong, consistent serves from Victoria where the ball audibly whizzed into the service box, and many long rallies. We also sustained many lets and unforced errors, and balls which hit the net and edged over, confounding the opponent. We played on stoicly, amid commotion of gym-users on the 'open weekend' entering for a double-sided badminton match, children playing ping pong, and a member of staff hoovering the adjacent court. Luckily Victoria stepped in to halt the worker and the terrible noise, and mopping commenced instead. I was fortunate to gain swim and steam access post-match."  -- Tessa
Reveal CommentJulie Cooper bt Tessa Killingbeck (Jan 20) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely bright afternoon and a good runaround for both of us with some long rallies"  -- Julie

Thank you for all your efforts in getting matches played. We know it's not easy to get four people on the same court at the same time and we are very grateful for all your hard work. If we can help in future rounds, just get in touch!

Group Summary:

Edward and John successfully defend their title with two good wins, including a close one against Tom and Shohei. Tim and Charlie tied on points but as one of their wins was a walkover, matches played by Edward and John take precedence. It's shame more matches weren't played and that Stuart and Ryan couldn't get underway. Don't forget we are here to help if we can!

  2. Tim Rayner & Charlie Wilson 4 RUNNER UP
