This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

Reveal CommentLloyd Douglas bt Tomi Farkas (Oct 18) 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "After making a start at Waterloo Park the rain eventually brought an early stoppage in the first set as the mixture of the moss and standing water made the court very slippery. With a hint of Blue sky on the horizon we decided to move to Eaton Park where it was hoped the newer courts would handle the rain a little better which proved to be the case. The rain persisted for all of the 1st set but eventually stopped and by the end of the match the sun even decided to make an appearance. As always with Tomi there were some very long rallies and great points but it’s always a thoroughly enjoyable game."  -- Lloyd

  • "Monsoon conditions didn't stop this thrilling three set match. First set was very close and could've gone either way. We both had to battle the wind and rain which almost put a stop to our game but we persevered and the weather eventually cleared up....a bit. Alfie dominated the second set with rallies getting longer and longer. Third set was another close one, I think I had a few set points at 5-3 up but Alfie made a great comeback to make it 5-5 putting the pressure on. I just managed to hold for the last two games. Cheers for the game Alfie. "  -- Richard

Player Comments:

  • "Lovely Autumn morning for a game of tennis, apart from the noisy council park team who decided to trim the hedge right next to our court throughout the first set. It didn't effect the tennis though as Dave managed a comeback from 5-2 down to a nail-biting tie-break which Richard just edged it 8-6. Most games went the distance resulting in a good game of tennis. Second set had a few rallies but not as tense as the first. Cheers for the game Dave. "  -- Richard

  • "It was a chilly November day in autumnal Eaton Park, with blue skies and russet trees, and many dog walkers and joggers. I apologise unreservedly to Mary because I was fifteen minutes late, and it was cold. I'm sorry, Mary and thanks for being magnanimous. It was a nice match which I was lucky to win. The match ended on a huge rally, and many games saw an enormous variety of tremendous shots played. It was an athletic hour and a half which saw one double fault from each player, and enjoyable discussion of parkruns and marathons. "  -- Tessa
