Player Comments:

  • "It was great to meet Raf who kindly agreed to make the journey. Conditions were blustery and we both struggled to anticipate where the ball would land. In the first I broke late on and managed to hold serve. The second set passed in a blur as Raf just didn't make a mistake volleying all attempted passing shots. The storm over I managed to break early to hold on in the third set. Thanks for an enjoyable game Raf."  -- Zac

Reveal CommentAdam Green bt Raphael Yoshiga (Sep 15) 6-0, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "I enjoyed meeting Raphael and we had a nice game in good conditions. He is passionate about tennis and has developed a great game in a short space of time. We had good rallies but in the end was just down to consistency on key points. I am sure I'll see Raphael in future leagues." -- Adam
Reveal CommentSteve Close bt Richard Sloggett (Sep 12) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A warm, calm evening at Harpenden made the conditions perfect which really helped my game, especially my volleying. The first set was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests with some extremely long rallies (in fact too long for me). The second set was somewhat quicker as I volleyed more and managed to close out the match by playing more aggresive tennis. Thanks Richard for an enjoyable match and all the best with your remaining fixtures."  -- Steve
Reveal CommentAdam Green bt Steve Close (Sep 4) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "A great battle with a lot of long rallies. We were both cagey at times not wanting to make an error and thus needed our water breaks between games as a result. Steve hit lovely drop shots and winners and served well throughout. There were only a few points between us in the end. I think we were both relieved to avoid a third set. Look forward to playing again in future leagues and socially. "  -- Adam
Reveal CommentRaphael Yoshiga bt Rupert Ting (Sep 3) 6-2, 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "Good game with Rupert in David Lloyds Hatfield; we played indoors on a carpeted surface because of the prospect of rain. The level of the game got higher the more we played."  -- Raphael

  • "A great evening for tennis at a really pleasant venue. Some great rallies and a really friendly game. Thanks, Steve"  -- Steve

  • "Fun competitive game at a windy Harpenden. A lot closer than the final score. Well played and thanks for the game Raphael"  -- Richard
Reveal CommentZac Sargusingh bt Rupert Ting (Aug 29) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "It was a real pleasure to meet Rupert. The score belies a competitive game, I was fortunate to break early in both sets. Rupert his some terrific shots but some unforced errors particularly during his service games allowed me to get over the line. Thanks for the game Rupert."  -- Zac

Reveal CommentAlex Makarov bt Taiwo Azeez (Oct 2) 6-2, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "A match which could have easily gone into a third set with an unpredictable outcome as the second set went head to head. In the second set we both played a defensive gave which resulted in several very long rallies, which made match very enjoyable. Taiwo demonstrates great stamina and fitness in these long-lasting rallies. Had the game went into the third set, the match result could have been different. "  -- Alex
Reveal CommentLeslie Okomi bt James Aviles (Sep 29) 7-5, 4-6, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "I knew to expect a though match since James was top in the group and I wasn't disappointed, a couple of break of serve in the first set but I managed to wrap the first set up, after some many deuces. I had a good start in the second breaking James in the first game but he rallied back and took it to the final and third set. I think we both started the third set on our knees as we had done a lot of running and battles in the first two sets. I managed to dig deep and change my tactics slightly to deal with his tricky slices and this paid off in the final set as I got an early break and managed to consolidate it and held my serves even though her pushed me far in. This match was thoroughly enjoyed now I know my body would ache later on."  -- Leslie
Reveal CommentLeslie Okomi bt Tim Kidd (Sep 22) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "I started very well getting a break of serve from the get go. The scores of the match does not reflect how it went as the margins were very tiny. I won most of the vital points which made the difference. Tim was serving really well, some of his kick serve unnerved me at times, but I was able to capitalise on some good returns and his weakness. He pushed me even more in the second set and and we had some good rallies but I managed to get a break early on which he got back, but I held firm and steadied the ship and broke back then held. Was a lovely match, enjoyed it. I had a bad fall in the second set but managed to continue. Thanks Tim all the best with the rest of you're matches. "  -- Leslie

Reveal CommentThomas Beck bt Alex Makarov (Sep 19) 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 7-6 (7-2)

Player Comments:

  • "Quite an enjoyable mornings tennis. I was up 5-1 in the first set, and ended up losing in a tie-break. Alex later explained that it took him time to warm up and get competitive. We had a few good rallies, I was quite satisfied with my level of play. Set 2 unremarkable, bur overall pretty close result with two tie-breaks. Thanks Alex and good tennis in the future. Cheers Tom."  -- Thomas

Reveal CommentLeslie Okomi bt Alex Makarov (Sep 13) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "First set went by very quickly as I Alex struggled to cope with my serve. However, in the second set he put up a big fight back and manage to beat me at the net a couple of times to earn a break of serve. Alex made me work very hard for the win. Really enjoyable match glad I started this round with a convincing win. All the best Alex with your other matches. "  -- Leslie
