"Its been a great contest and I will certainly been playing again in the new year"

"Am really pleased to have joined the St Albans version of what I used to play at Highbury Fields. Great that Ed is a member at Townsend TC as we got to play on clay. A competitive match with some long rallies. I look forward to playing Ed again sometime,"

Alun Davies

"I think the set-up you run is absolutely fantastic. Met some great people already and enjoyed some wonderful tennis. Tthank you once again for arranging such an enjoyable and competitive round. I may have lost a few more matches this time round, but for me the players you assembled were a good bunch, each talented players in their own way and as a result I enjoyed the challenge that much more - so thank you. Keep up the good work!"

Bjorn Johnson

"It was great to get so many matches in this time and all were evenly matched and competitive games,"

Reveal CommentKevin Lomas bt Jordan Harp (Jul 29) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Was lovely to play Jordan as I had never played him before so always nice to play against different styles. The first set I was seriously worried as his serves were being hammered at me left right and centre. It was a mixture of unforced errors by both of us which i just about got the better of over the course of the set. The 2nd set was a mixed bag with myself leading 3-0 for Jordan to then mix it up running into the net forcing me into the errors and hitting some beautiful shots up and down the lines and came back to 3-2. I was on the back foot at this point and once leading 5-3 and serving for the match managed an ace on my advantage to my relief! I look forward to playing you again and I'm sure next time you will get me! "  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentDeji Jaiyesimi bt Pralin Mehta (Jul 26) 6-4, 2-6, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "1st set went back and forth with a couple breaks and I managed to break in the tenth game of the set to claim the first set. The second set began similarly, but I failed to hold serve in the 5th game of the set and Pralin dictated to win three more games and close out the second set. 3rd set I was 3-2 up, and had Pralin at 0-40 on his serve, but Pralin through a combination of lovely dropshots held serve, and went on to lead 5-4, serving for the match. I managed to save three match points to win that and the next two games, winning match point after arguably our most lung-busting rally, with dropshots and net cords and full court coverage! Enjoyed it, obviously it could have gone either way. Looking forward to playing again, Pralin! "  -- Deji
Reveal CommentKevin Lomas bt Peter Ormrod (Jul 22) 7-6 (7-2), 6-4

Player Comments:

  • "I dont remember much about this match although technically Peter was miles ahead of me. I did my usual scampering about the court trying to keep the points alive with Peter hitting some lovely shots up and down the lines. I just about edged it using my back hand slice to try and keep Peter on his baseline but on another day Peter would have won this. Both sets he had 3-1 leads and we had one game with at least 15 deuces that he finally won. The heat was unbearable at times and luckily there was a bush that we both seeked refuge in that was a lifesaver. I look forward to playing you again soon where I'm sure you will test me to the limits again. All the best with your remaining fixtures and lovely to share a court with you."  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentKevin Lomas bt Deji Jaiyesimi (Jul 19) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "The score didn't matter in this match as its just nice playing my good friend Deji from the club that we are both members at. It was a short notice match and we didn't take into consideration the midday sun topping 30 degrees plus. The heat was a massive factor in any Consistency from either of us and totally not the game we usually play. Each point was no more than 3/4 times over the net with both of us opting to try and finish the point without being drawn into a rally. We needed a drinks break early into the second set which potentially benefitted me rather than Deji as he led 2-1 at this point. Given milder conditions the score line would have been very different! Lovely to play mate and look forward to many more. "  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentMax Bourgognon bt Pralin Mehta (Jul 15) 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "I really enjoyed playing with Pralin as we have a similar style of play. We played on our usual surface which made the game pretty close. It was even the whole game but I was probably on a better day. I can’t recall how many aces Pralin delivered but it was probably more than 10! Very nice intensity and ball pace which made the rallies very very enjoyable. Looking forward to playing you again Pralin!!"  -- Max
Reveal CommentMax Bourgognon bt Peter Ormrod (Jul 14) 6-3, 7-6 (7-3)

Player Comments:

  • "It was very nice to play with Peter and although I had the first set a bit easier, the second set was a real battle on who was going to concede his serve. Peter has a beautiful technique and no doubt that the day I play again with him, I’ll be in trouble!! "  -- Max
Reveal CommentPralin Mehta bt Bob Sneesby (Jul 13) 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Tougher match than the scores suggest. The league table & others prove that Bob’s a good player - covers the court well and plays drop shots to perfection. Enjoyed the game & all the best with your tennis Bob!"  -- Pralin
Reveal CommentMax Bourgognon bt Bob Sneesby (Jul 11) 0-6, 6-4, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Great game with great intensity. As the score suggests, Bob won more games than me over the match. The first set was a doughnut making me feel that I would not last long ! Bob did an amazing job in the first set leaving me very few opportunities to secure a game. In the second set, long and intense rallies made us both very tired. Bob had many opportunities to come back but I secured the second set. The third set was all about fitness level and I was just lucky to be 30 years younger as Bob had definitely a better technique and experience. It was a great game overall, thanks Bob! "  -- Max
Reveal CommentBob Sneesby bt Deji Jaiyesimi (Jul 8) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "An interesting match. Deji played a clever game - and I could easily have been lulled into a false sense of security after the first set. The second was much tighter and more challenging, with Deji's fitness, court coverage, lack of unforced errors and some deceptively quick first serves requiring me to play more aggressively in order not to get sucked into his game! Well played Deji, good luck with your remaining matches, and look forward to playing again."  -- Bob
Reveal CommentMax Bourgognon bt Kevin Lomas (Jul 8) 7-6 (7-3), 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "What a fantastic game we had! Absolutely crazy first set with many games lasting 6 deuces. It took a lot energy on both sides and could have gone either way. Our game style is completely different and that made this game really interesting. Kevin’s backhand slice would have been deadly on another surface. In the end, I probably just benefited from playing at home and ended up wining the first set. The second set was probably more about endurance and I think that Kevin regretted to have played another tennis game in the morning! Looking forward to playing you again Kevin!"  -- Max
Reveal CommentDeji Jaiyesimi bt Peter Ormrod (Jul 7) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the game, Peter! Admittedly neither of us played our best tennis, but some intriguing rallies from the back of the court and at net, as we tried to adjust to the conditions, I do hope to play again, Peter! All the best with the remaining matches."  -- Deji
Reveal CommentKevin Lomas bt Pralin Mehta (Jul 1) 6-3, 7-6 (9-7)

Player Comments:

  • "It was lovely playing Pralin again and I was worried that he would steam roll me again like our previous match with his wicked forehand topspin. The first set was neck and neck and I was just about keeping up with him until I finally broke him to lead 5-3. Normally this is where my mentality let's me down but I held serve to take the set 6-3. The 2nd set was a monster with myself taking a lovely 3-1 lead for Pralin to then come back to lead 4-3. I was desperately trying to avoid a 3rd set as I doubt my legs would have lasted but I hung on to take him to a tie break which either of us would budge on. I just managed to nick it in the end to my relief but Pralin played superbly. Look forward to our next battle mate!"  -- Kevin
Reveal CommentBob Sneesby bt Peter Ormrod (Jul 1) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Thanks for the game Peter! Nice to meet another vet! The contest was not as one sided as the score suggests, with several tight deuce games. I had to be very alert to cope with Peter's excellent serving. Good luck for the rest of the round Peter, and look forward to playing in the future."  -- Bob
Reveal CommentDeji Jaiyesimi bt Jordan Harp (Jul 1) 6-2, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Jordan and I have had some tough battles in the past but today Jordan, by his own admission, was not as solid from both sides of the court as he usually is, and I was able to keep the right side of the deuce score for a number of tight games. Enjoyed the better weather conditions than our previous matches too! Good luck with the rest of your matches, Jordan"  -- Deji
Reveal CommentBob Sneesby bt Kevin Lomas (Jun 28) 2-6, 7-5, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "A rainy day match in St Albans! Kevin and I had a very close contest with the advantage eventually swinging my way. Kevin won the first set comfortably with plenty of wicked sliced backhands that kept uncomfortably low, but I rallied to take a tight second set, and managed to hold a lead throughout the final set despite some smart net play by Kevin. Many thanks for the game and for coming to Townsend Kevin and look forward to playing again. Bob"  -- Bob
Reveal CommentPralin Mehta bt Peter Ormrod (Jun 28) 7-6 (7-2) Peter Ormrod Retired

Player Comments:

  • "Such a tight set, thoroughly enjoyed playing vs Peter who is a solid player all round. Had to end early due to time. Good luck in the remaining games!"  -- Pralin
Reveal CommentBob Sneesby bt Jordan Harp (Jun 26) 7-6 (8-6), 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A titanic first set could have gone either way and effectively determined the outcome. We each broke serve once to set up a tiebreak which I narrowly won after saving a couple of set points! Good rallies, plenty of drop-shots and lots of running, with some great court coverage by Jordan. Thanks for the game Jordan and look forward to playing again sometime. "  -- Bob

I managed to pull clear in the third only because Vicente was recovering from injury and not quite match fit. Thanks for the game Vicente and I look forward to our next encounter. -Zac"  -- Zac

Reveal CommentToby Sweeney bt Dave Martell (Jun 24) 7-5, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Really tough game against Dave, he came out the traps incredibly quickly, his early forehands taking him to 4-1 in the first set. I managed to steady the ship and get better length on my shots to take to first set 7-5. In the 2nd Dave made a few more unforced errors, this allowed me to take it more easily. Enjoyable game, I look forward to playing Dave more in the future."  -- Toby

Player Comments:

  • "It was a very up and down match, with momentum switching a lot and with some long games going back and forth on deuce. Unfortunately the courts were quite wet, so less running and more trying to go for winners. Josh has a really great first serve, and hit quite a few aces throughout the match. His net game is also really good. I somehow managed to gain the momentum in the final set, but it could have easily gone the other way. Thanks for the match Josh."  -- Ashley

Player Comments:

  • "I feel like the score doesn't truly reflect how competitive this match was. We played for a full two hours. I managed to get a lead in the first set, but Claudio fought back and it really became very close. In the second set, Claudio was leading 2-0 and then it became 2-2, 3-3, and I just managed to get the crucial hold to then go on to take the match. Claudio has a very solid game, and doesn't make too many mistakes. So it was really tough and I was happy to get the win in the end. Thanks for the game Claudio! "  -- Ashley
